FINAL FANTASY VII REMADE.. IN LBP2
Posts
Gametrailers
If you've ever thought what Final Fantasy VII needed was to feature adorable burlap people, we'll have the best news you've read all day.
A full version of the beloved RPG has been made via LittleBigPlanet 2, using only the game's (extensive) tool set.
Here's some footage Jamie Colliver has posted to YouTube of his remake, six months in the making and done entirely in his spare time:
To reiterate, the most impressive aspect of this is that everything you see and hear was done with LittleBigPlanet 2's editing and design tools. Even the music was rebuilt from the ground up. It's not just a cosmetic look, either: The tribute reproduces the combat system, all conversations, boss fights, quite literally everything from the entire game is reproduced as accurately as possible.
Our Take: This is one of the most ambitious things we've ever seen in LittleBigPlanet 2. The tools the game gives you are incredibly powerful: Sony has shown them off and even asked game designers to use them to construct games. But the scale and scope here, not to mention the work this must have took, is breathtaking. We hope this stays up, and it highlights the surprising power hiding in a seemingly simple game.
This is so cool. Makes me want to buy a PS3 & a copy of LBP2 just to check it out.
oh my fucking god
this is the best thing that i never knew i needed. i hope to god that this art style becomes the new FF standard.

LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

Oh dear LORD this is AMAZING
I've never played LBP but if this gets finished I'm going to have to

I wonder if Squeenix can/will do something about this. I mean, this is the kind of thing that most companies would like to do something about, don't they? After all, why buy the original product when you can just play a perfect, enjoyable replica of it somewhere else for free? That goes a little further than your average, not-worth-bothering-with fan work.
I mean, really, as "game developers" this sounds all kinds of cool for us, but maybe we shouldn't be too happy about it... =/

author=BlitzenYou could get it for about 350$, around here anyways. Maybe less if you get a second hand PS3.
Excuse me while I spend $600 to buy the hardware needed to play this.
Still not worth it.

There was nothing done about the Harry Potter remake. It's the start of the movie, scene-for-scene and line-for-line, recreated as a level. It's not the whole movie though, and this wouldn't be the whole game of FF7. There's also a recreation of level 1 of the original NES Zelda 1.
I get what your getting at, but in this case it doesn't apply. This is such a...laughable product that no company would dare waste effort trying to stop it in the name of copyright. You can't make RPG battles in LBP2, so there is no way it would be a substitute for the real deal.
RPGmaker fan games are more of a threat than a level in LBP2. They generally look and play the same as the originals.

It's not just a level. It appears to be the entire game. In the "related links" on youtube are several other levels later in the game.
Square Enix has been pretty brutal about stopping Chrono Trigger fan projects, but if they seriously put it on their own facebook page, it seems like they have learned their lesson. I mean, let's be serious: this doesn't detract from any real future FF7 remakes. It's made with sock puppets. It just creates hype and recognition for them.

Huh? What? I'm not sure what you're saying here.
1. It's the entire game.
2. This is awesome as fuck. Laughable? That's an insult.

...Why do you make action games in RPG Maker again?
ha
I own LBP2 and enjoy it. Of course this is awesome.
Just to piss you off

Well, nobody likes "IP bullies". Kids these days are eager to 'boycott' any company they don't like for whatever reason, so companies may as well play along. We saw it with the whole SOPA thing, we live in the era of internet mob rule... But if Squeenix put it on their FB account, who knows? Maybe it's just a publicity stunt or maybe they're really this cool. Anything's possible, I guess.
Oh, and the difference I see between your average rm fan-game and something made in LBP is the size of their audience. How many people can play your game in these circles? Hundreds if you're lucky? Against how many millions?
Anyway, if this is not Squeenix problem, it's not my problem. Too bad I don't have a PS3... xP
