SHOULD YOU MAKE A DEMO FOR YOUR FIRST GAME?

There's a difference between releasing a beta publicly and simply sending it to people for proper feedback. The first option is pretty shit IMO.
As said before, the answer is definitely yes.
I've just released my first game, didn't have a demo for it and put up the game profile pretty much when the game was done. I thought I wouldn't have too many problems but once people start actually playing it, tons of little issues pop up that you forgot about or just didn't see or what have you.
Could have prevented all of it if I put up a demo first and had people send me feedback.

We call those alpha/beta/release candidate builds, not demos.
