So... Apparently there's a hurricane!

I wasn't aware, being in Alberta and not paying attention to the weather.
It's called Hurricane Sandy, and she's ripping up New York. I fly home to Toronto tomorrow morning, and get to work in the savage rain headed our way as I type this. Should be... Interesting!
Anyone care about this? Thoughts?
Got your rations ready for the 2012 end of the world?

EDIT: not that anyone with self respect would do so, don't fly Air Canada. I called just now to see if there was any precautions or things to prepare for with the hurricane coming, and they had no idea there was even a storm coming. SAFETY FIRST!
2012 end of the world always makes me laugh. The storm outside is quite soothing to me o^.^o
I'm just glad that this sucker didn't decide to head to the Maritimes since I didn't really want to deal with it. I'm on the coast myself and the last hurricane to hit here several years ago was pretty beastly because of where I'm situated. The forecast was pretty funny on Friday because they didn't know where the hell Sandy would hit. "Yeah, it could be way down here along the US coast.... or it might be way the hell out here in the Atlantic, we don't know."

Fuck why didn't I post ken in here.
I've got a few more hours until it starts to ravage my little area of New York. I mean, the outer ring is definitely here, the rain is savage.

Also, Ark. Post him again anyway because he is terrifying.
Fun fact: The word 'Hurricane' comes from the name of the Mayan god of wind, water, and fire; Hurakan. He was also the one who destroyed the second race of men by causing the great flood... Coincidence? I think not!

This is not too far from where I used to live. Southern New Jersey has been pounded with storms since I left.
God, stop having fun by creating disasters on your sim city >:(.

Being serious, I hear that the intensity went lower as many people though, so it won't get to worst scenarios.

Power went out soon after 11, the work crew came by and and restored power at about 1-ish. Hope it stays. And Clae, stay safe.

That is a terrifying amount of flooding! Is New Jersey mostly all at sea level?

I'm sorry for the people who got injured or even worse, killed in the disaster, but my simple opinion is that the USA may have invoked this. Karma, man. You can't go around the world killing people and expect nothing will return back, right?

For instance, lemme tell you this :

7 million Americans without power?
I remember my whole childhood in darkness. (NATO bombed Serbia in 1999)

Innocent people dying?
More than 5,000 people killed in bombings, including civilians and children. 10,000 wounded. Two of my childhood friends passed away, both three years of age. Of course, not including the effect caused by the depleted uranium bombings.

People are in fear, panic rising?
As a child I had to dump my toys and run for the atomic shelters at the first hint of a siren.

Buildings destroyed?
Houses, skyscrapers, refineries, bridges destroyed.

So you're telling me I should even think of being sorry for them?

There is no such thing as karma. quit trying to anthropomorphize weather events to rationalize a crappy childhood.
Hey Milos, I've got a cool video for you.

Fuck, if only I hadn't eaten that last super-sized mcdonald's fry... curse you, karma!

ON a less serious note, I live all the way over in Michigan and we have rolling power outages and trash cans flying across the roads; it's extreme.

Yeah, the wind is pretty wild up here in Nova Scotia as well and Sandy isn't even remotely close to me. I was almost being blown over when walking to work this morning. I really couldn't believe it. There's no damage because the wind is only 70 kph, but we're having plenty of power outages.

It's really crazy how big of a storm Sandy is in terms of actual size.
