WHAT AREAS OF RPG MAKING REALLY HINDER YOUR PROJECT?

So it doesn't have to be RPG Maker related, huh...
Then I guess Pre-Calculus is the biggest nuisance. Instead of spending time working on my game, I have to pull my hair doing the homework. XD

If that is the case, I'll have to say that DAMN Operating Systems project. That circular buffer can go @&#$ itself.
RPG MAKING
I don't know if this stands for creating rpg games with any engine, or to create any kind of games with the rpg maker :D

Just going to go ahead and say: EVERYTHING
Lol, seriously I try to focus on my game, yet I get distracted by just one thing, and all of a sudden it's like 5-10 hours later, with no idea how time passed that fast! x_x

It's always graphics for me. I only want to use custom/original graphics now and not rips. I'm not really against rips and don't care if anyone uses them, but I want my own projects to look unique now. The problem is that I'm not the greatest spriter. I CAN make some okay looking things, but it takes me a looooong time to do so. When it takes me several hours just to sprite one really detailed thing to use in a tileset, it makes me question whether or not I should be the one who is trying to make the graphics.
Asking others for help. I don't want to ask for testers even if playtesting has become very tedious and time-consuming. There are some various oddities and game-killing script bugs in my project that I don't know how to fix (outside of removing entire gameplay things), but I don't feel comfortable asking anyone about it.
I love mapping, but nature maps are the hardest ones for me. My attempts at forests, fields, and marshes usually result in cluttered messes, even if there are only a few objects on the map. :v

That's my curse too :<
Mapping isn't hard for me. It actually comes naturally when I finally get into a groove and just start belting out some good maps. However, the inspiration to even GET to that point is what kills me. I can look at what I 'want' for an area, for example, a fire cave: I want about 25-30 maps to comprise this area, 8 of them being rather large, 14-15 of them being medium sized and the rest rather small. But looking at the amount of work I have to do literally kills me and I quit before I even start. But once I finally get around to sitting down, popping in a 3-4 hour song playlist, I can usually groove out about 10-12 maps in a day easy. I just need to GET to that point. Do you know what I mean?
I think my biggest hindrance with my projects are graphics. I'm kind of straying away from using ripped content and just making my own stuff, so it gets real time consuming >_>

That's what i started doing, since I'm finally doing something which takes my own skill and learning how to sprite, which takes forever.
But in all honesty, in my case, the battle system is what hinders me. I want to get it perfect and something new and flashy that other games don't have already.
Oh yeah, that's also pretty time consuming. I've usually just dealt with the DBS in 2k3, but that's starting to change since I switched to RMXP xP
Introductions, openings etc.
I can't ever think of a good introduction that gives the player briefing of what's going on without it going on for a hour.
Maybe showing gangsta soldiers fighting laser dinosaurs with rad ballistic skateboards would keep the player excited.

Tinkering.
Whenever I open the editor I just tinker with things for 3 hours and never get anywhere. I have too much fun just trying out ideas and never stick to a concrete plan. And when I do try to make a plan I just end up going off from it anyway because I think "But what if I added THIS?!?"
That and graphics because I want new ones but have no talent.

My biggest problem is towns. My project is full of them! Trying to make each one unique and interesting poses a problem sometimes.
For those of you who know my project, Legacy of the Lost, I typically have a past and present version of the same town. When I finish a region and have to remake the town in the present I usually slow down - it is hard for me to think of things for the NPCs to say/things to do in the present time.

Story of my life.
Graphics are definitely my weak point. It's not that I hate doing it, I really do enjoy mapping, and I don't mind spriting, it is the fact that everything I draw turns to poop. I know what I want in my head, but it's like my brain sends these dilapidated signals to my hands which in turn churn out feces.
Similar to my last game (that I am completely revamping). I need the graphics to fit with the story I have in mind. I'll sit there and play it, but no matter how great the story/gameplay/dialogue might be, I can't get past the stupid chibi characters, and the square dungeon ceilings and... I can't. I just can't.
A lot of things for me, with mapping being the worst (not to say that I'm BAD at it per say, but it's just that it's really time consuming, and sometimes I end up oversizing my maps as I already know). Graphics isn't so much an issue for me as graphics doesn't make the gameplay, though having at least DECENT graphics is ideal. Just...I can't make them myself, so I'm limited on what I can use from other areas.
Database work sometimes can be a hinder (do YOU want to work 7 months straight on just 2-3 sets of abilities!?), but it's still not as bad as mapping. I just sit there pondering on where to place things half the time!
Dialogue and storytelling has never been that much of an issue for me, though there's been times when I've completely redone story scenes because I thought they were crap and didn't flow right with other dialogue/story scenes...

author=IsrieriThis exactly! Probably around 1/3 of all my time spent developing games is pointless or half-pointless tinkering.

oh, not to mention I require some inspiring music to do any sort of cutscenes, a solid outline to develop anything, and pretty fresh ideas in my mind.
Mapmaking and plotwriting are slow parts, but...
The absolute worst is writing battle event code. You end up having to implement it like 250+ times, even if it's a simple call event. And some stuff can't be done by call event, meaning if there's a problem with it, you have to redo it again and again through EVERY SINGLE MONSTER GROUP.
Aside from that, the only real hindrance is finding out rpgmaker doesn't have the code and you have to improvise, meaning 1000+ line hell getting it to do what would normally be impossible.
