So today i accidently dropped my PSP and damaged it pretty bad. I went to see how much it would cost to get it fixed and found out it would be cheaper just to buy a new one so that's why i want to know. Is the slimline PSP better than the normal one? Which one do you find better?
Of course the Slim PSP is better then the original, better load times, graphics, Skype, and USB charging, also the whole PSP on the TV thing. Even with these extras though if your looking to use custom firmware your either gonna have to get a mate with an original PSP that's hacked or a Pandora bat so it's a little harder to do this.
I'm by chance, a PSPhacker. And I'd have to say the Original PSP is better in my opinion. The new Slim doesn't have a built in Wlan switch and though experimentation
with several slims in using/hacking them I've noticed thier wifi signals are much
weaker than that of the normal PSP model. Also, with hacking slim psp's there tends to
be a lot more bullshit you have to go through in order to make certain programs run
on the slim than with the original version.
I've not looked into how the Slim improves load times or graphics. I'm just saying from a hacker's standpoint, when messing with the original psp there's little to no problems. But with the Slim there always seems to be some stupid problem with it.
I do like the ability to play your games on the T.V though, definitely a plus in my book. But I do think you can do that with the Original PSP as well if you have a certain cable or some such.
Go Original PSP,

I'll say Slimline, for the simple reason that I'm a new PSP owner and went straight towards its because it's newer, and given the choice why go for the dated one? (plus thats all they had in the shop) and after playing a original PSP, well, it just doesn't feel right, its heavy and seems to take longer to load.
I'm not interesting in hacking, Go Slimline!

From my understanding, the slim has an improved chipset with less power consumption as well as twice as much RAM (totaling 64MB now). That's one of the reasons you get better load times with the slime: it caches UMD reads.

The Slim is easily the better PSP, hacked or not. There is no bullshit to go through in order to make some programs run. All you need is the 1.5 kernel and that's it.
I've gotta say the Slim just feels so much better than the normal PSP. I've got the original, but I would love to have a slim version. The wifi is actually better on the slim as well because the RAM can improve browsing speed. Not to mention Skype, but that doesn't really count for me.
Loading times will be better on the slim, but only if you don't have custom firmware. Since you read off the memory stick on custom firmware, that's easily going to have the fastest load times.
By the way the graphics are not better on the slim. That's a lie. The screen is the exact same, as well as the processing power.
I guess it's personal preference, I've had the PSP since it came out so it's probably why I like it better. I really hate slims. As long as you get a PSP that's all that matters.

I didn't notice anyone say this, so I will: Battery Charge!
If you attach the honken old PSP battery to the back of slim (with a reshaped battery attachment) the battery life is way longer. I have no specs on hand, but that's one selling point.
Another are the buttons. They're less cheap, and feel a little easier than the clunky old one. I have both, and prefer the Slim hands down.
