I LOVE old school RPG's like Chrono Trigger, FF, and Dragon Warrior, so to me this site was a perfect fit... until I learned that to play a lot (all?) of the games, you need to have the engine. I wanted to play Hero's Realm, but it looks like I can't get the engine it uses anymore? It said on the summary page that you need RPGMaker 2k3 and it's RTM, but when I go to the engine's page, it is no longer available.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can play some of these games that use older engines? Some of them look REALLY great!

Well, actually, Hero's Realm gamepage must be out of date. You SHOULD be able to download the game now, install it and play no problem! (If you can't get it to run, let me know and I can help you out!)
As for other games - it really depends on the game. Sometimes the creator included the RTP files the project uses, sometimes not, but the only place you can get these older engines is via Google. We don't host them here, or link to them here, and posting links to these illegally translated engines is not allowed.

lol nice. I started playing Master Of The Wind while that was downloading. I am bout an hour into it and so far it's great. I am glad I wasn't wrong about it, now I can't wait to play Hero's Realm! But I am one of those guys who plays one game to it's completion... I can't start HQ until I am done with MOTW now! :P

I don't know about MOTW or other rmxp/vx games, but with games that run on the older 2000/2003 engines you can use f4 to change between fullscreen and back

I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

You should never need the engine for any game. Only the RTP, which is a set of common graphics and sound used by many games.
You can download the RTPs for RPG Maker XP, VX and VX Ace here from the official RPG Maker website.
I'm sure there's an official place to download the RPG Maker 2000 RTP and RPG Maker 2003 RTP, but it's from a Japanese website, so just check google, hundreds of websites have them.

RTP.... Is that just a runtime protocol? Kinda like DirectX and Java?
Thanks guys! Loving this game so far. Nice humor, and the graphics are perfect/great for an old school type of game like this. Do you guys have any other suggestions for games? I also like sci-fi or space type RPG's as well. I did the search filter, but getting personal recommendations for a game is so much better than going by how many stars it has!

Try holding the Alt key and pressing Enter.
If you want blind recommendations from random people, they're mostly going to recommend their own games, since half the active people on this forum have made games. :) I'll be good this time though, and just recommend the list of featured games. They're all excellent picks. It's hard to do much more without any specific requests for a specific style or certain features.

I am open to just about any kind of RPG actually. Just looking for a good game with a good story. I'll try anything that anyone says is good. My opinion may not be the same, but you never know until you try!
