POKéMON DIAMOND/PEARL/ETC. DISCUSSION THREAD

The guy who posted the last topic gave me the idea, though, no offense to him, I'd rather there not be a shitty topic for it, because it really is something that has merit of discussion. There are a number of people playing, iirc (or it might just be Shadowtext and myself; no way to tell).

So, this thread is to talk about anything dealing with the Pokémon series, from what you're doing in your game to talk about what's coming up. And don't limit yourself to the main games. I know the rest of them are kind of crappy (save Mystery Dungeon, which has its merits), but they're there, so...

Who's looking forward to Platinum? IMO, they could've picked a better title, like "Opal," since a giratine (the namesake of Giratina, the game legendary) is a type of opal. I've heard people say the use of the word "platinum" hints towards a GSC remake, but I'm doubtful (no matter how much I'd love to see a remake on the DS).
I was wondering what kind games there gonna keep coming up with, like it was said before, there running out of title, (R/B/Y/G) (G/S/C) ect... what will be next Thunder yellow and Water Blue?

also, does anyone have Rescue codes for Myster dungeon? i've picked it back out and its quite entertaining
Nah, they've already made the RBY equivalent (that was FireRed and LeafGreen). Nintendo's trademarked "WhiteGold" and "MoonStone," with rumors that they've done the same for "DuskGold" and "DawnSilver." No telling if they're going to do anything with them.

Also, I don't know anything about my Rescue code, but I know my Explorer code. I just have to 1) get my game and 2) find the time to actually play it. There's a spike in difficulty for my game, since I picked up Chikorita for my partner and the second dungeon is full of Poison- and Flying-types. Not fun.
oh i see, Whats Whitegold...ect.. ive never heard of any of them...

and which game are you playing, i got the one for the gba
Holy shit. If DuskGold and DawnSilver are trademarked, does that mean a remake is planned? Gold, Silver, and Crystal are the best Pokemon games there is. Period.

Trademarks don't always mean anything, but they can be a sign of things to come. It's not uncommon for a game company to trademark anything they can think of that might be used for their games to prevent other people from using the names--same thing with registering domain names. It costs practically nothing (from their point of view) to trademark these things. You do have to show due diligence in maintaining a trademark to keep it, though.

Keep in mind, Squenix registered "Chrono Break" eons ago and never did anything with it, along with a couple of other things that people were certain meant sequels to beloved games.

I'm interested in Platinum, but I still don't know enough to know whether or not I'll pick it up. It's kind of interesting that it sounds like they're giving other Pokemon "new forms," I guess in the style of Deoxys. But it sounds like it's mostly Event Pokemon, like Shaymin. It's interesting that they apparently change Type that way, though. That's pretty different.

I really wish they would make use of the Mystery Gift via Nintendo WFC thing they added, though. Or use the Nintendo Channel on Wii for Mystery Gift events. It would mean not having to go to stupid Toys R' Us events, being surrounded by the small, noisy, primary demo....and then maybe they could actually give us the items that get us into the Special Events, like they ought to!
Pokemon games are freakin awesome. Pokemon Gold and Silver were definitely the most fun especially playing it every recess and lunch time at school. I currently have collected just about every pokemon in all games. Platinum i am quite looking forward to and definitely am going to pick that up.

I own one of the new ones. I forget which.

I am thinking of picking it back up again. I was pretty bummed out by the highly inconsistent and shitty interface.

I wish Nintendo would just wisen up and make a Pokemon MMO.

Hopefully one that doesn't fall into the same MMO traps. Something based on the games that already exist, and with PvP being very much at the center of everything.

Basically, just a normal Pokemon RPG, only instead of other trainers being NPCs, having them be players. But how would Gyms be handled? Would they be a player-run thing, or would they be NPC-monster thingies? Or maybe they'd just be moderator-driven....hmm.

This is fun. Pokemon MMO thoughts, go!

I think there was an online pokemon game created a while ago called pokemon crater where you could battle people online, collect gym badges etc but i'm not sure if it's still up though. You could always check it out.
Pokemon MMO ideas START:

There can be three to five regions, with different climates and themes. So there could be a heavily urbanized region (i.e. Kanto), an old, historic region (i.e. Johto), a region with lots of mountains and snow (i.e. Sinnoh), etc. Alternatively, each region can be a separate server, although this would take a lot away from the variety of moving from place to place and potential interaction.

Within each region are a number of towns and cities. Within the towns and cities are gyms. Towns and smaller cities generally tend to have local gyms, which are not required for the Gym Challenge. Larger cities might have National Gyms, which are significantly bigger and are required for the gym challenge. Winning a tourney in a National Gym nets you a badge. Every in-game year or so there is a Championship, where those who qualify may compete for trophies, etc. You do not need to win every badge in the region to qualify, but since badges up your Pokemon's stats it may help in the long run.

Regions could have different environmental regulations. The highly urbanized city state could be trying to prevent the rarer Pokemon from going extinct, so only trainers of a certain level are certified to enter that region and observe the Pokemon there. Other regions, like the old, historic region, may not be as organized and may therefore have fewer boundaries. This gives you more freedom, but also puts you at risk of entering somewhere far above your level and getting defeated ridiculously quickly.

Also, you should not have to teach HMs to your Pokemon and it would be kind of neat if you could share Pokedex data with people to get information rather than having to catch the Pokemon itself to find out how useful it is. That's all I can think of at the moment.

My big thing about a Pokemon MMO, is that it would be VERY VERY PvP oriented. It would have to be. You can be running around anywhere and get into a fight with someone.
That seems like a given. Level grinding and loot farming hardly seems the proper thing to do in a Pokemon MMO. PvP is where it's at.

On the other hand, I'd love to see it develop some sort of really robust economy that gives people lots of options for how to handle things. You could be a Pokemon Trainer, taking the usual PvP arc and probably having some sort of ladder ranking based on victories (possibly these would be tracked per-Pokemon rather than per-Player, since lowering a Player's ranking because he was testing out a new 'mon would discourage experimentation).

But you could also be a Pokemon Breeder, breeding rare Pokemon with awesome movesets, abilities, etc. It'd be neat if the breeding system was even more robust here so that a well-bred Pokemon would be a really prized commodity. There's already a strong enough system in place to offer breeders a lot to do, but I'd love to see a Breeder Ladder of some sort....maybe it could be based on reputation, where players who get 'mons from the Breeders give them points based on how pleased they are with their 'mons, or maybe the game could keep track of the successes of a breeder's mons even after a trainer has taken them over (assuming the player isn't both Breeder AND Trainer). Maybe they could even have some sort of way of letting Breeders earn the right to breed special moves onto Pokemon that would generally be impossible for them to get. As an example, the Surfing Pikachu would be an example--completely impossible in the games short of hacking or getting one from a special event, but in an MMO, why not let high level Breeders (whatever that means) get the ability to do that?

...they could also bump up the Contests system to make that an intriguing option for players who prefer that. Then you've got a handy triumvirate of Trainer/Breeder/Contest....preparing....person. I'd like to see other options, too, though.

Heck, they could probably even work in a way for Players to be Pokemon Rangers, or start or join a villainous Team Whatever.

...basically, I like the idea of more than one way to play the game. There's a lot that could be done with Pokemon and not all of it has to be cockfighting.
Anyone going to be making an MMO of pokemon? Seriously, you will be my hero if you create one. :)

I doubt Nintendo reads this forum.

I doubt Nintendo reads this forum.

Or do they?

Maybe Shadowtext is actually Satoshi Tajiri. Stranger things have happened!

And maybe I'm actually Yasunori Mitsuda, and Three the Hard Way is being ported to the PSP in the fall.
I have a unstoppable Pokemon team. Nobody ever plays me, because I always win. Heres my team. Deoxys Lv. 100 (Defense form), Darkrye Lv. 100, Dailga Lv. 100, Palkia Lv. 100, Gratina Lv. 100, and RegiKing Lv. 100. Sorry if I spelled something wrong. I also have a Pokemon called a Shaymin. It's one of the Action Reply Pokemon. It's supposed to be legendary, but it sucks really bad. the best move it learns is solarbeam. It's a spoiler from Pokemon Platinum. I also have an Arcues, but I not a huge fan of it.

>:(

I'm sorry, but I all ready hate you as a trainer, kid. You're the type that makes fun of us that like the lesser known, lesser loved critters because they "aren't worthy" of you with so many GODS just sitting around. Anyone can win with a team of six legendaries like that. You forgot to look through all the available Pokemon and devise a team that might show you have a HINT of originality.

I don't give a flying flop if you always win because you're carrying six gods, dude. Show me something impressive. I have a 50/50 battle win/loss record but I am PROUD of the hours I have spent raising, breeding, and chosing my Pokemon. There are some that I have had since my first copy of Sapphire graced my hands. I love them like they were real pets, some of them I have spent YEARS with. I'll be DAMNED if someone says that SHAYMIN IS A HORRIBLE POKEMON. It's actually quite cute, and the one legendary that's perfect for contests...

Is all you do battle? All you care about is STRENGTH?! I'm sorry, but I'm here to stand up and say that it's perfectly fine for something to be cute, but not have perfect stats! My favorite Pokemon is SPHEAL!! That's right, I said it! There is no such thing as a horrible Pokemon! They all have their uses! And not just to be the punching bags of stupid legendaries.

They call me the Poffin Princess. I grow huge batches of berries, up to 12 at a time for ANY berry, and I can make level 99 Poffins when combined with my best friends. I raise contest Pokemon! I'm a coordinator!

...

You've upset the wrong mommy. When I get my WiFi established here, you will face my wrath.
