CloseI know this seems like a shitty topic, but lurking is hitting an all time high here at RMN. I check out the Users Online page quite often, and its extremely rare that anyone is...actually posting, especially considering how many people are on at a time and whatnot. Lurking is very easily the majority here. I've actually talked to many new members who were turned away by how many and how much lurking there is here.
Also, everyone should be aware (and reminded) that we have an actual site as well, which isn't getting enough love as it is. Do stuff! Look around, download games, comment and review games you've already played, submit articles and tutorials, comment and rate those! The site is a goldmine of useful things for game making, and everyone should take more advantage of it! Participate more!

I lurk all the time xD I feel like I don't have anything interesting to add so I just don't bother, most people are a hell of lot smarter than me here. I don't want to post a bunch of pointless posts all the time, then people think all I want to do is up my post count, whereas I really couldn't give a shit about it.
Yeah, and that's part of the issue; people being silent because they think their opinion won't be valid, quite the opposite; as long as you aren't a complete moron, being a very active poster sharing your thoughts and opinions isn't a bad thing at all. And like this topic is about, this is what the forum needs. Don't think your opinion is too worthless to post.

Sums it up right there. Whenever I don't post, it is because I don't feel I have anything useful to add.

Yeah, i have noticed this too but it happens on all forum sites. There really isn't much you can do about it, you can't force people to post. I am a huge poster on here as you can tell by my post count and i don't think i have ever come on here and not posted at least once. ;D
I lurk a bit sometimes because I read the posts but have nothing more to add to some of them. Or have already stated what I thought about the subject.
It's rare that I'll post in a thread more than once unless I'm asked a question, to clarify what I said or it's an ongoing 'serial' thread - ie: Screenshot or Envelope .
If you do see me lurking it may also be that I've left the computer on the forums whilst doing something else.

You definitely don't have to worry about being active; you're one of the most active posters on the site.
But yeah, I don't want to give the impression that people should just spam up the forums nor should activity be forced, but to just keep in mind that they shouldn't be hesitant to post their opinion no matter what, and that lurking is well...highly contagious.

Also, the activity on forums tend to drop in the summer as the kids go outside to play hide and seek and whatnot. I fully anticipate the summer months to be rather dead and am not alarmed by it.
Oh yeah? It seems that summer breeds a massive amount of activity as nobody has any more school and more time to be inside or whatnot. In fact, if you look at the activity logs for some places, some forums activity actually doubles in the summer time.

I've gotten into the habit of lurking because on GW when I post my opinion bad thing happen. But most people are pretty cool here, so there should be no hesitations.

That really somes it up for me a majority of the time. If it's not that it's just that I accidentally left my browser open.

lol, thanks for that Kentona. I thought something wasn't right.
I also notice that the last week or 2 before release something day activity often tends to drop a bit as well, has happened on the previous two as well. I also look forward to seeing some more activity happening over the coming months.

I wanted to post a joke about the Lurkers from SCII Brood War here, but I didn't really play that game beyond the campaign and can't remember anything relevant, and the joke probably would've sucked more than this substitute post.

I'd have to echo others in saying that I don't post much because I don't really have anything to add. Usually someone will have already stated my opinion, and I find "same as (x)" posts to be spammy.
Then again, my posting rate from when I was younger has dropped dramatically. I remember I got over 1200 on one forum. But in my three years on Gaia (lol), I've made 511 posts, most all of them in one singular thread.
There's also the small fact that I've had to use my Mac for the past month or so rendering my visual gamemaking capability nil. I've been working, at least. I'm still waiting for my MacBook to come in along with a copy of WinXP.
And I've been focusing on healberry.
