If only there were some way rpgmaker.net supported the sending of messages to specific people with whom you wished to converse. Some kind of "private messaging" system, if you will. I know such technology is beyond our current capabilities, but dare to dream I say!
To answer your question, yes. You could theoretically do this without scripting; it would involve a new skill type called "equip" with a skill called "change equipment" or something, which calls a common event that has a conditional branch for each possible item the user can equip and a number of other branches forming a show choice tree based on what the party is holding. This would be incredibly tedious and would also require all members to be able to equip all items.
It would be much easier to do with a script, but I don't have the time or the inclination to write one at present. Once I have some of my other obligations taken care of I might take a look at what would be needed.
You may already have done so, but get some other people to read your dialogue and tell you how it makes them feel; you may be dismissing really good dialogue because you read it from the author's perspective of not liking your own work. I've fallen to this myself many times, but 9 times out of 10 a line or paragraph I've absolutely hated has been very positively commented on with my test group. There was really nothing wrong with it beyond me not liking it because it was me who wrote it.

Dudesoft, I am a long time reader and first time writer. I'm trying to write dialogue for my new game but I'm not doing so great. When I read other's work or pay attention to what is being said in movies and such, it seems so easy to replicate. Yet I fail to make it as engaging. What advice would you give to such a writing noob such as myself?
