HOLY SHIT I WISH I LIVED IN THE US

I wish I lived in the US. You know why?

Because then I could quit my job and create a crappy Kickstarter project instead. With RPG Maker 2000. Yeah. And the best part is, people would actually pledge money to it.

You won't believe some of the crap there is on Kickstarter that raises thousands of dollars. I've seen crappy RPG Maker games with nothing but shitty RTP maps, being praised for its uniqueness.

Two shit examples right here:

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1465600975/echoes-of-eternia-a-modern-take-on-a-classic-desig

Man, I wish I lived in the US. Because then I could quit my job and create a crappy Kickstarter project instead.
An old topic but it never stops to surprise me.

That make you fat

Unless you just throw the cupcakes up after eating them

Bla bla people are suckers bla bla society bla bla capitalism
Nonsense, this madness is the result of Socialist education. :P
you dont have to live in the US to do that.

ROCKETHUB is the same as kickstarter but available internationally!

also, its not a product of capitalism, socialism or any other ism. its just people being people (psychology). stop politicizing everything, not everything is politics...
Echoes of Eternia only uses like a "few" rtp stuff from what I saw in the screenshot, though other than that it seems to use Mack sprites, and Coming of Age Day tiles (which really suit the Mack style btw). That being said, I'm not really sure if it's something that needed to go on Kickstarter, other than with the artwork, and soundtrack, as everything else seems perfectly doable for free. (I'm not particularly defending it, but it does actually look rather nice, the map, and the artwork. They "could" have at least tried parallaxing with those tilesets, anyway. :p)

Now Unemployment Quest I can definitely understand; nothing but rtp/Ace generator stuff, that never should have been on Kickstarter yet earned 10x what they were asking for. (The mapping in this is seriously repulsive btw, for a commercial game..)

(Calling them shit though is a bit much though..)

Why is that a bit much the guy is basically a con man and used like a fraction of the money to put his game on cheap CD's which he sold for even more $$$.

You do know that it's legal to sell RPG Maker XP/VX games even if they have RTPs, right? Aveyond, Laxius Force, for instance.

Aveyond, among many others: http://www.amaranthia.com/modules/kingdom/

Laxius Force, among many others: http://www.aldorlea.org/index.php

Even though Aveyond and Laxius Force are not really great games, those are suckers for, well, children/kids.

You may not like it, but hey, that's the world of business for you. And it is legit.

It's possible to con people no matter where you live. You should probably have enough dignity and respect to not do it though- you could just as easily make a good game and sell that.
I guess Kickstarter is the American Dream to make quick easy money

because nobody ever uses kickstarter for a good reason

Never said that, but if this thing can so thoroughly abused that you can LITERALLY submit a piece of shit and raise thousands of dollars for it, the whole system should be taken down immediately and they should re-think it very carefully. People are being deluded into thinking they're pledging money to a game with fully custom graphics and created from scratch.

This made me laugh a little, lol: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/susanwilson/9-year-old-building-an-rpg-to-prove-her-brothers-w?ref=category

Honestly this is beyond retarded. I've also read about this scandal were a woman who was rich as SHIT started a Kickstarter to send her daughter to RPG Maker camp, because she didn't feel like paying for it. Then the internet went batshit and they got sued, the other thing Americans love to do.

I still stand by the fact that even if they were to rethink the entire system there wouldn't be a stop to stuff like this. People will find a way to rip each other off, there's no cure for the stupidity of believing the con artists. Maybe it could be less prominent, but they could always just start a pledge drive outside of kickstarter or simply sell the game without kickstarter like many others do.

Raising public awareness and calling out obvious scandals by virtually tarring and feathering the people behind them is the best you're going to do.
Kickstarter right now is the biggest medium for this crap. If anyone's gotta give the good example, it's them. And their quality control seems to be pretty horrible.

It's not so much sheer stupidity rather then a lack of knowledge. Not everyone knows about RPG Maker.

I would consider it pretty basic stupidity to not even research the tool that was used to create something, really. Especially if the person claimed to have put so much work and effort into it.

Really, how could you look at something like Unemployment Quest and think to yourself that it was really hard to make? It doesn't even look professional. At all. Something has to click in your head that says "this looks shady".
