RPGS THAT NEVER MADE IT TO THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE

You know, there are so many RPGs I have played and beat that never......officaly, had a english version. So many great ones, on the SNES alone. For example, Bahamut Lagoon, Tales of Phantasia, Treasures of Rudra, The Magical Land of Wozz and so many more. I never really understood why such great games never made it, officailly.

Does Star Ocean count? I know there is that re-release on the PSP, but that was never released in its original form to the states (somehow the sequels made it).

I'd say Mother 1 and 3 would fit in as well.
Right, I'd say it counts. Right now, I'm playing The Magical Land of Wozz. I never heard of it up until a few days ago, it's such a great game. This is the games intro.

You can find quite a few of those here:

RPG Lists

Look under the lists for each gaming platform to the right of the page. There's a bunch of Japanese only titles from what I remember in checking them. It doesn't help at all for PC RPGs, though ...

Makes me wonder about RPGMaker RPGs ...

The only one I ever recall playing was:

Alvorada do Mal

Coincidentally, I just found it will be completed (hopefully!).

Mother 1 was actually translated, but it was never released outside Japan because SNES was coming.
A prototype of it still exists, it was bought by some guy who used it to extract the ROM and spread it in teh interwebs.
The English translation is rather hard to find though.

Star Ocean may count. Heck, you couldn't even get SO graphics to run on an emulator without a patch.
Finding Mother 1 in English is easy, just look for Earthbound Zero (Unless you are looking for the GBA version in English that nobody is really motivated to do). There just isn't much reason to play it because Earthbound obsoletes the game in every way and Mother 1 is absurdly grindy.

Personally I'm still waiting for a Romancing SaGa 2 translation. I know Gideon Zhi of Aeon Genesis is working on it here and there and last I heard he was having trouble with how RS2 draws its text. Someday it will be out.

Also Romancing SaGa 3 using Magno's new Spanish translation+hack which looks way better than what ManaSword did way back when RS3 was first translated. iirc Magno found someone to retranslate the RS3 text so he can release an English version of his hack but I don't know how that's coming along.

Arabian Nights, a SNES RPG, got translated and released last Christmas which I want to play but haven't found the time to do so yet.

e: Magno not Mongo!

e2: Energy Breaker is a SNES tactical RPG that was released last year too. It's mostly fun but suffers from some obtuse mechanics and sometimes confusion where to go next but it is fun and unique and if you ever get stuck there is a foolproof strategy that defeats every enemy in the game!
I would've liked to enjoy the Farland Story games back when I was a kid.
I can say the same about all the Fire Emblem games we were all deprived of, all because of some Nintendo exec prejudice.
I never could figure out where to get a proper translation to Energy Breaker before (that didn't screw up the game on load). I'm surprised you know about it though, it always seemed pretty obscure.

It's not even the most obfuscating or complicated Japanese game. The winner of that honor goes to Chaos Seed. Get this, the point of the game revolves around designing rooms to harness feng shui in order to generate energy. An army is trying to demolish said rooms, because (I think) it might undermine their power or something. Good luck figuring this one out. I suspect even having a translation of that would help not at all.
I could only think of Rock Man EXE 4.5 Real Operation for GBA at the moment. :D

An English patch was in the work, but the translators gave up on it for some reason. :P

Not me. I got about 1/3 to 2/3 through the body-snatch story, and then there was some sand worm, and I got killed ALOT.

I even knew its weakness, and still died because I didn't have a good efficient (lightning) Mantra.

I so want this in English, but I don't think it will. Final Fantasy Zero.

I am with you 100%. I want to get it so hardcore and I don't think it will be released in English. I was really hoping Shining Tears would be released in English since I have all the Shining series for ps2 save that one, and noooope. I am seriously considering learning Japanese, just for the games that aren't being released in English for my collection. >,<;
