CRAP SUGGESTION THAT PROBABLY ISN'T EVEN POSSIBLE BUT WOULD BE COOL - SUPPORT MS
Posts
So I was just plugging away in the help forum, minding my own business, and after helping Xenomic in one of his topics I glanced at my MakerScore and a thought popped into my head, which is probably ridiculous but I figured I'd share it with you guys anyway:
Would it be at all possible to implement some kind of makerscore reward for when someone answers your questions in a forum topic? Like say I posted a topic asking how to do X, and someone posts and gives me the answer I was looking for, and I wanted to give that person a little something for helping me out. Even if it were just like 5MS or something, I think it would be cool for people to have the option of giving people who take the time to help them a tangible (if not mostly irrelevant) reward.
This is potentially a biased and selfish request since I pretty much live in the help forum but feel free to offer your thoughts. Hopefully I'm not alone in thinking this would be cool, and even if I am it might give someone an idea for an alternative that would work better.

seems to fit the usual MO behind makerscore rewards (reviews, tutorials, other useful things)
it'd be important to restrict the mechanic to support forums, though. I don't like the idea of people treating it like a measure of popularity and taking it to forums unrelated to game development.

Oh of course, I 100% agree with you. I'd go so far as to restrict it solely to posts made in the help requests & resources forum.
I kinda like this idea. Over at conceptart.org they have a system akin to "likes" on posts but instead of just "I like this" it's "I found this useful" - posts have small messages beneath them saying "# users found this post helpful".
Simple implementation but without devolving into facebook style likespam.

Yeah, even something like that or the "reputation" system that some other RM sites have. Basically a way for us to get something out of helping (thus providing more incentive for more people to help those less knowledgeable) and/or get our names out there and show that we know our stuff and can be relied upon for advice.
A 1 MS reward would be more than enough if more people besides the OP can 'like' the comment, like in Newblack's example.
And I said 'comment' because I think this should be extended to all comments on site. 'Help' is not limited to the help forum. =P

This as well.
I'm all up for the idea, but I can see it now: Somebody needs help trying to figure something out and it would be a pushing / shoving race to get that 1 point makerscore before everybody else. Still, it would get the job done, I guess.
I think I would not be a fan of the idea. Having makerscore in discourse would feel like a popularity contest for the most agreeable posts (or whoever the OP agrees with most).

I totally agree on this point which is why I would insist it be limited to "Found this post helpful" rather than "I like you/this"
Even still I suppose it would have the potential for abuse so you have a point.
LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

I'm imagining something like Yahoo Answers where people choose the most helpful answer
This kind of sounds like it would make the help forum a lot different. Which is okay - if it helps people more, I'm all for it.
I think it's important for the people who are concerned about abuses to remember that makerscore is practically pointless beyond the bonuses to hosting space. I think limiting this mechanic to help and support-related forums is all that will be needed to keep it from turning into a popularity contest.
I like this idea in all its forms. I for one, being a total RPG Maker Newbie in Training, am going to constantly be asking for help of one kind or another. I am sure that something along the lines of "I found this useful" would be of benefit to those of us like me. Just my two cents worth.
I wasn't expecting such a positive response to this idea; guess I'm onto something here!
I like the idea of a Yahoo! Answers kind of thing, but I guess we'll have to wait for a response from the bigwigs.

This is a good idea, but I'd really like to insist that this should be extended beyond the Help and Resources forum. At the very least you'd have to extend it to the 'Request' blogs, giving that this kind of blog even show up in the Help and Resources forum. But really, sometimes we help people outside any forums: in game pages, in screens, etc. (I DEMAND MY BONUS MS TOO, DAMMIT!!!)
I really don't see people abusing this, maybe some n00b may start giving away makersore left and right, but I think most people will be moreselfish careful about it. Furthermore, if this could be regulated somehow, like limiting the amount of makerscore you can give every month or something, people will rationalize it and choose better who they think has being helpful to them or to others...
I really don't know how easy or difficult would be to implement any of this, though. I'm just saying.

Wow, so the site ate my post. :/
Anyway, what I had suggested was to integrate it more into the help/request blogs themselves as it might be easier to implement that way than separating just one area of the forums for such a thing. Since the help/request blogs are already sent to the help forum anyway, thus 'separated' already from other blogs, it might be easier. Maybe.

It really seems like you could work this into the "Development" area of the site - similar to how people post screenshots requesting feedback now, they could also post questions/requests and "accept" the answer they ended up using to give the helper points, much like Stack Overflow's system.
oh. apparently this thread isn't about finding a cure for multiple sclerosis.
I will weigh in sometime later once I examine the request and the thread and the site's code.
