It is hard to relate to Superman stories because they guy is INVINCIBLE. Kind of ruins the drama when nothing is a threat to the guy (except a rock). I am a fan of Zack Snyder (I am a sucker for special effects) so I will reserve judgment until I see it.
Iron Man 3 was great
Star Trek Into Darkness was also great
I don't even know what other movies are coming out. Cloud With A Chance of Meatballs 2, Monsters University and Despicable Me 2 I think are coming... I am also keen on seeing Oblivion and After Earth (WALL-E is one of my all time favorite movies).
With regards to After Earth, my wife was like "That was really good casting! The boy really looks like he could be Will Smith's son" :|
Iron Man 3 was great
Did you know that the hero of this movie was JARVIS? that badass AI system piloted 40 iron man suits AT ONCE against near-immortal superhumans! Go JARVIS!
Star Trek Into Darkness was also great
however, I haven't seen the original Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan, so I felt as though I was missing part of the story.

I saw Lincoln the other day. Being a fan of politics and intrigue, I loved it, but I don't think I'd recommend it to everybody. As usual, everything Daniel-Day Lewis touches turns to gold.

The thing that makes Superman interesting to me is that it's the opposite of a classic hero story/struggle. Instead of the main character being in mortal danger... He puts everyone around him in mortal danger. The whole theme (from what I gather from trailers) is exactly that. Clark struggling to accept that responsibility.
I think 'responsibility' as a theme is pretty rare, except for Supes.
It would have been cool if they had magic in the movie too, because we've yet to see that in film. It's one of Superman's other weaknesses. He has a few, but they're all extrodinary, just like the man himself. (God I'm turning into such a comic nerd.)
Superman has always been a hard movie to make. The fact that he's pretty much invincible excepting a type of metal kind of adds to that cheesiness. The only good ones were the ones with Gene Hackman as Lex Luthor, and those were amazing.
"Responsibility" is the theme of Spider-Man, dudesoft :I

I'm really behind when it comes to movies... A few weeks ago I finally managed to see Invasion of the body snatchers.
The movie was pretty good overall, but there seemed to be this huge glaring plot hole that made think the whole thing was just too stupid.
The aliens are capable of traveling through space on solar winds and are essentially going from planet to planet merging with the dominant life form that lives there without really changing much of them except for their "feelings".
That by itself is not stupid, but their whole method of merging with their host is.
They can somehow create a whole blank slate of a person in these pods, but to finalize it they need the person to be asleep. This seems to be a backwards ass way to survive in a new planet when they gain absolutely nothing and are shown to be fully capable of modifying life forms to suit their needs.
All they had to do to succeed as a species after modifying plants was to try and evolve from the plants into a more advanced life form than humans. Either by using the materials in the plants themselves or by trying to incorporate more complex life forms into the mix.
Over time they could have evolved into a much more complex species capable of surviving on their own without the need to just take bodies and thus avoid resistance or destruction by the species they're trying to take over.
But no, they took the Canadian approach to taking over earth "Hey we sort of want to take over your planet, but we don't really want to bother anyone too much so we will take away all your feelings of anger and hate and sort of piggyback ride on that for a while until your planet dies and we have to go."
And that's pretty much Invasion of the body snatchers.
Also there's some boobs near the end and a naked pod woman screeching.
And Jeff Goldblum and Leonard Nimoy are in it.

Kingdom of the Crystal Skull wasn't anywhere near as bad as everyone said. The problem with it was that it was just okay and not "OMG best moveie evar" like a lot of the old ones were to us. The story wasn't actually that bad, but a lot of the CGI scenes killed the action. A lot of what made the originals so great was that they had to get actual props and real tanks and motorcycle chases. And that was kind of lost here.
I'm not watching The Great Gatsby even if you drag me to the theater. I didn't like the book, didn't like Moulin Rouge, and I can tell you I probably won't like the movie either. Though if someone else likes it, that's cool.
I've actually been watching the 2007 version of Oliver Twist (BBC) and it's not too bad. The first movie I ever saw Timothy Spall in was Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, so I didn't have much of an opinion of him. But let me tell you: I'm kind of glad that was the first movie of his I watched, because when you recognize him in The King's Speech you have to do a triple-take because you just can't believe it's the same guy! He does a wonderful job as Fagin in Oliver as well. It's a good movie to see if you don't like reading Dickens but enjoy the stories and characters.
Citizen Kane, Kill Bill, The Avengers, and Star Wars Ep4 were some of the best movies I've ever watched.
Kill Bill was especially awesome, if not for just this scene alone:
(WARNING, CONTAINS NASTY LANGUAGE)

The Kill Bill pair was epic. First film was bloody and action-packed, exposing Tarantino's penchant for old-school Hong Kong-inspired action and Western sensibilities, and the second half introduced character development and an epic showdown between a lady and his enemy, Bill. (I just realised, I almost outted a spoiler for someone.)
Personally, I'm all for Episode 5 of Star Wars, Ratty. Maybe because I've watched Ep4 so many times that Ep5 still has some novelty. Still, the move into an episodic space opera from a space fairy tale was a welcome move. Cloud City, Hoth and Daguba were welcome changes too.
Boba Fett shows up too!
My mentor taught me the value of blending two genres long ago, and Star Wars: A New Hope was always his example. Science Fiction and Fairy Tale. The young knight who gets a magical sword to rescue a princess from the big scary fortess where a dark wizard lives. Yep. Just add lasers.

So I just saw Con Air for the first time in ages (probably the late nineties when it came out) after listening to a podcast where they listed some favourite "Over the top acting" and it came up. So I thought "why the hell not".
In many ways this is such a great movie. Lots of people always talk about how 80s action is/was the defining thing and that they miss it. Con Air is a 90s action movie which I believe also is a bit of a lost art by now. Or something. I guess in a couple of years we'll look back and go "man the action of the 00s. They don't do that shit anymore".
So yeah it's a great and stupid movie. I think the reason it wins so much is the great cast. Full of awesome character actors doing what they do best (being characters). And in the middle of it Nicholas Cage before people had realised he was crazy (he is crazy in this movie too) and John Malkovich.
At the end it has two cases of cool guys don't look at explosions. One where the group of cons walk away from an explosion and Malkovich is the only one not reacting to it. The other is Cage running over a bunch of cars while there's explosions all over and it's set to some kind of electric guitar whailing that almost made me laugh out loud.
"Make a move and the bunny gets it."

Just watched Iron Man 3 again.
Man of Steel is thursday! Weeeee!
My complaint that it had little of Tony wearing the suit is bs. It's Tony's story, and he wears it plenty. There's no need to harp on the lack of suit. Honestly, him in the suit for 2.5 hours would be boring!
Also, looking forward to what they'll do next for his suits, since the trilogy archive was destroyed. Maybe they'll bring out a Jack Kirby classic look?

ROFL maybe he's afraid of some guys outside of the school who are starting to make some trouble in the neighbourhood.
I can't help wanting this more than any of the summer movies.
(and I passed up on two chances to see Star Trek. I don't know why but I just don't feel it... Eventually I'll see it)
