When it comes to creatures that are scary in idea, Grays really get to me. They're basically aliens that are studying humans but sort of act like ghosts. They randomly choose a family to study and then when they're done they abduct. And there's nothing you can do about it. I think they were in the movie Dark Skies.
Dark Skies, huh? I'll have to check it out! But that sounds really creepy. The idea of being abducted is beyond creepy. I can totally understand where that fear comes from. Being powerless and unable to have any control over a species so much more technologically advanced who does experiments on you...makes me all shuddery inside! D:
@mawk It took viagra.
@Kat Actually, on the big note, I think your intro topic has more replies than any other one on RMN. You're doing something right~

@Gourd: Does it? Aww, that's so awesome! :D That makes me super-duper-happy-excited-fun-times!
@Mawk: Hey there Mawk! Your laughing cat manages to be eerie and awesome all in one, ba-boom! Very cool. I love cats, by the way. :)
@Everyone: And I don't know what I'm doing but I'm finding the whole community to be pretty friendly (and again, amusing in Nightowl's case!) thus far. :D I've been having fun looking around, reading topics, and even eyeing up the games Dude is hosting on here. I may join. I really want to do some art first though~
So Mawk, what brought you here to RMN? Do you make games? Or just enjoy them?
@Everyone: I want to play games made by the people here, it would be fun! What's some of the really good ones? Anyone know?

I found an introduction thread with 80+ responses, but that's the highest it got before this.
Anyway, you might want to start with the featured games for something cool to play, Kat. I would also imagine that the highly rated games are such for a reason.

Oh, and any game made Ocean, Archeia_Nessiah, or Rhyme are good. Ronove makes pretty good games too! Xbuster is in the process of making a platformer... and a majority of games made by kentona have become classics. If you like zombie games, Infection is a nice one.
Oh and Zeuzio, Trihan, and Marrend are decent developers in their own right too.
If you're curious about any of those, just use the little search bar in the top right hand corner.

@Marrend: awesome, thank you very much for the links! I'll check them out. Not sure if I have to download anything to play them, but not a problem I got this system for its gaming capabilities, haha. You know, I was given Guild Wars 2 for Xmas and never got around to playing it? Bad me. x.x;
I'll check out all those too, Gourd! I'm definitely going to check out Trihan! And Marrend! I haven't had the pleasure of meeting Zeuzio yet. Kentona, hmm? Isn't he like a board admin? His name is in red, so I just assumed he is. And that the people with names in green are like moderators or something.

I liked Hellion by kentona. it's a pretty good example of the weird stuff people like to get up to with outdated engines.
I think about making games, but actually doing it it something I need to work on. I'm mostly just here to provide ambiance.
e: yeah kentona's kind of the big boss around here. he's really casual about things, though, which is just about the way I think it should be

Kat, hiya there! So you're asking about games to play here ... it depends on what you might enjoy and be willing to put up with.
Although, others might not like to hear this, the games that have the most and best ratings, as well as high download counts, do so because they have a built fanbase that enjoyed the game. Also, looking at the buzzing games gives you an idea of which ones have the most chatter (for better or worse) at some point in time. Otherwise, I would suggest visiting the different gamepages, see if there's anything in the game description, screenshots, videos, blogs, etc. that catches your eye, that will make you choose to download a release if it's available or subscribe to the game to follow its development.
Things by certain developers, as G-C pointed out, are recommendable based on the quality of what they have offered in the past. However, not everybody has their own tastes. In conclusion, there's many ways to go about it ...
Blame Mr. Big-T's earlier topic ...

I guess decent is a fair term. ;~;
And welcome to RMN, Kat! Let's make this the longest introduction thread evar!

Kat, you might want to download the RTPs for the different versions of RPG Maker if you don't have the Makers themselves. Sometimes, the downloads won't include the corresponding RTP and you won't be able to run the game without them ...

Yeah, RMN's version of a welcoming block parteee!
@Mawk: I'll be sure to give that one a peek at then, for certain! Thanks for the recommendation~ I'm here to post lots, maybe do a few articles, and eventually I think I'd try to make a game if I have the time between school, art and writing. :) Ambiance...I've always liked that word.
@Sana: OH! I know a bunny that scares the ever-loving-crap outta me! FRANK. From Donnie Darko. I can't even go into a bathroom in the dark because the mirror. ;3;
@Edchuy: I suppose I can do a bit of everything! Look at the recommendations, and then check the game pages out myself, and read reviews and all that. I don't mind taking the time to find games I think I'll enjoy most! Thanks for all the useful advice, you're right. Not everyone enjoys the same thing. The RTPs? Mind my ignorance, I don't have the makers but could likely get them if I needed to...just don't know what RTP stands for. :< And thanks for the second post welcome there! Might as well throw a party, and invite everyone. Everyone EVER.
@Zeuzio: Oh, are you a FF9 fan? Nice avvie! Nice to meet you, and I'll be sure to check out your games, yeppers! I bet your games are great. :) Thanks very much for the welcome~ I'd love to make this the longest ever intro thread. I don't see a reason for it to die anytime soon. LIVE LONG AND PROSPER, intro thread! :) How many games have you made? I believe I've seen you partake in some of Dude's little games on here! I saw those and his comics before anything else on the forum, haha.

@Zeuzio You made Vagabond which houses Slimey. This in itself is an achievement worthy of god~ *Hugs*
@Kat RTP=Run-time package. It's graphics and sounds/music that correspond to a maker, people can have custom things in their game or have their entire game be custom, but typically one little thing from the RTP requires you to have all of it.
(And Selphie is from FF8)

I think you mean FF8? But yeah, I guess you could say I'm fond of the PS1 Final Fantasies. :D
Really I've only made two games of my own. One's pretty much a "lol beginner" game, but if you don't mind terrible mapping it can be pretty fun I guess. The other I've finished quite recently, and it's had a pretty good reception mostly. Though I know I could have put a lot more effort into it. :x
I'm usually the first to volunteer for whatever events Dudes comes up with, yes! XD Battledomes in particular I find to be really fun for whatever reason.
RTPs:
You can find the ones for VX Ace (also works for Ace Lite), VX and XP here:
VXA, VX, XP
And for 2k and 2k3:
2k, 2k3
For 2k, you probably should get both versions 1.0 and 1.32. For 2k3, there are several versions of it, so installing the 2k3 maker is the probably the easiest way to go.
EDIT: Oh yeah. You might to read some of sbester's series of articles about fangames, since you mentioned somewhere else a ton of RPGs you have beaten ...

@ Gourd: Oh. Em. Gee. My bad. It was a typo. D: I know where Selphie is frooom. Can you download it from the game page? Maybe I'll coerce Dude into helping me figure it all out...hrm. One thing at a time, yep! I should probably start looking at games though to figure out which ones I might want.
@Zeuzio: That was a typo. -wails- I was even going to say I like Squall and Zell, so yes, BIG TYPO. -points to games on shelf- I has FF8. Well, FF9 too. And the rest. But ya know. Typoooo! -piteous self-depreciating grin- I really liked 7, 8 and 9! I kinda' like all of them in their own ways. They're all awesome. I remember the first time I played number 10. I think I drooled at the opening CG.
I'm debating entering the Battledomes. I'm just trying to read some now and see exactly how they work. They seem fairly simplistic. And fun, too. I wanted to do some of my own art though too, and maybe will get to that tomorrow or Tuesday. I have a lot of running around to do tomorrow. Well, I could do it when I actually have to go downtown. Which I don't. But I wanted to. I am pondering ponderous thoughts. I do need to hit the gym though. And get crickets and mice for the reptiles. Yeeeah.
@Edchuy: LINKS. I do so LOVE links. They make my life easier and the world goes round and round. And I love LINK even more than links. Because he is ossum. And all his games make me so happy in the pants...orjustingeneralbutyouknow. 8P Thank you for those, and I'll figure it all out I'm sure~
