I NEED OPPINIONS ON USING MP3'S FOR RM2K3

Ok, now I want to use MP3 files for my RM2K3 game as they are much better quality. Now, by games end the filed size will push 250MB. Is that even a big deal to anyone?
1) People tend to encourage it these days because different sound cards handle midis differently.
2) You can shrink your mp3s by re-encoding them to 128kbps/44Hz with no noticeable quality loss. That should get the size from 250MB to <100MB, unless you're making Everlong 2.

I am aware that many developers here seem to favor Ogg Vorbis for audio files, although I don't know what they use for encoding or playback for their games. A quick search of the drive where I install my RM games turned up a total of over 15,000 files. Tbere are appear to be some practical advantages:

Ogg Vorbis

Perhaps somebody who knows more about this format can enlighten us about that choice.

Regarding the download size issue, I would say for most it isn't an issue, but in my particular case, most of the time I don't have the benefit of high speed internet due to monthly download caps. What I do then is let a larger game download overnight. Definitely, smaller downloads helps me.

I just played through some of my game with the only change being the mp3's and wow did I get into my game alot more.

Five years ago it was. Now? Shouldn't be any problem.
It was short lived, back to midi files. I can't fix the "not implemented" error on mp3s

I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

What error?
As long as you don't use too many MP3s (such as I have), it shouldn't be too much of a problem. 250 MB seems reasonable enough I think anyways. But that's me since I have plenty of space on my computer and don't mind big downloads. Everyone's going to be indifferent to that I suppose. ^^;

I don't mind games being more than 250 MB's since I have a brand new computer and download speeds are pretty fast.

You can lower the file size of your MP3's, like Dyhalto said, by re-encoding them. I use Audacity to re-encode my files with no real difference between the complied song and the original file. It's pretty easy to use and it's free.

Here is an old topic covering your question.
