MONITOR DISPOSAL

So, I had this spare, broken monitor in my room, and no idea what to do with it. Then I decided I was going to throw it off of a cliff with some friends. So, I made a video of it (some pictures, some video) and uploaded it to youtube. I just thought I would share my fun little expedition with others.

Horray for dumping lead into the environment!

20% of CRT displays are lead (4-8 pounds). There's also plenty of other heavy metals like cadmium and mercury. I don't remember how much though.

(This post brought to you by GRS' research presentation on the environmental impact of dumping electronics in general instead of proper disposal, if there even was one available)
Hey, who said we didn't put it into a garbage bag after, hm!?

...lol who am I kidding...
Throwing it in the garbage would have the same effect (except all the heavy metals would be in a landfill instead). The best solution is to recycle them properly, but not many places have any sort of program for it. I think only two US states had anything for proper disposal of electronics.

You at least got to have some fun when improperly disposing of electronics!
No doubt. And unfortunately (for you, if you actually care about the environment), I might be doing this again with another monitor, and maybe even a few towers.
Our state has this random truck that comes by and collects old electronics and disposes of them properly. But it only comes around once a year and it sets up in a parking lot in the middle of nowhere, and I don't think many people know about it.
It must have been a blast but

That sounds great myersguy. I usually leave things out on my driveway and by the end of the day when i come home from work it is usually gone. It's a great way to get rid of old junk.
