FINAL FANTASY V FOUR JOB FIESTA
Posts
Hey kids! Do you like Final Fantasy? Do you like playing games for charity?
Then you should check out The Final Fantasy V Four Job Fiesta.
In Final Fantasy V there are 22 (26 in the Advance version) jobs available for you to play as you choose. In the Four Job Fiesta, however, you will be assigned a random assortment of four jobs, one from each crystal. And you can only use those four jobs as you play the game!
There have been several donors who actually will donate money equal to the number of players who beat certain challenges (such as beating the game, killing Omega or Shinryu, etc.)!
The more people who sign up and complete the challenge, the more money goes towards Child's Play!
The rules are simple. All you need is a twitter account. If you don't use/like Twitter, it's easy to make a throwaway account for this.
Follow the instructions on the site above. The Twitter bot will select one random job from each of the four sets of jobs in the game. You must play through the game using only those jobs! There are other challenges you can impose on yourself too.
If you're interested, check it out!

oh hey! I was just wondering if I should make a topic for this. I signed up about a week ago but haven't started yet -- I'm trying to decide whether I can slash should stream it, or whatever.
(my first job is monk. I couldn't be happier.)

FF5 owns. Last year somebody got Knight and three Berserkers and beat the game and Shinryu (Berserk + Guard is a wonderful thing). I ran my own little one a few months back when I was on site using a die to pick my classes and got Thief / Berserker / Ninja / Dancer. Never actually finished it though. Thief is a really slow start since you need good weapons and rely on drops / steals (Daggers from zombie pirates and Mythril Daggers from Wyvers) and the water crystal boss is rough with squishies like Thieves. Berserker sucks but Dual Wield Doom Sickles is handy and Equip Axe can give a nice strength bonus. Ninjas are great. Dancer was... hoping for Sword Dances. I don't know much about how they work.
ps Do this on an emulator. There aren't many ways to beat Omnisense without offensive magic and you might end up having to equip a wall ring and waiting for the six hours for his MP to deplete else he'll just cast Reset when hit by not-magic. Fast forward is a god send if you really want to do Fork Tower.

Hmm, curious. It seems I have no excuse not to do this, seeing as I'm in the middle of my holidays and have nothing else to do.
My first class is Thief.
... Oh god. I am going to die.

Early Thief tips!
- Those skeleton pirates in the Ship Graveyard drop Daggers which are a great weapon upgrade for Thieves for the rest of the dungeon and the next one.
- You can steal Mythril Daggers from Wyverns in the Walus Tower. Definitely get four of these for fighting the boss.
- Four Thieves with !Flee can snag the Elven Cape in Walus Castle's basement (and the rest of the loot) pretty easily. Just flee from every Jackanapes encounter. You don't need to worry about back attacks from him... or ever again actually. The Elven Cape will help with the Walus Tower boss too.
- You can steal Hi-Potions from... Poltergeists? in the Fire Ship. They appear in the later half of the dungeon. There's no better place to stock up as they won't be available in shops until World 2.
- You can also steal Ethers from... Motortraps? in the Fire Ship too. Steal a few of these if you get a spell caster and kiss your MP woes goodbye!
- !Capture (or !Mug, I forget what it's called) skips the random flee effect when using the Chicken Knife. Use this with whoever gets the knife if you don't get any other means to attack reliable with it (like !RapidFire).
I remember there being a handy guide with tips and suggestions for doing this. I'll see if I can dig it up.

I can't participate in this due to me being on uh, deployment (and thus having a near nonexistent internet connection), but I just want to voice my support for this awesome idea, and I encourage everyone to try it, because FFV is an awesome game.
Jackanapes is pretty much designed to make you use a Thief, yeah. they trump his back attack, and they can run right away. me, I'm going to have to savestate a bunch. the elf-whatever is a great accessory for basically the whole game and if you wind up with any light-armour classes at all you'll be glad you have it.
oh yeah, for anyone who's curious about how this sort of thing goes internet luminary My Name is Kaz did a run last year and has another one ongoing. his lineup from last year isn't too abnormal for a #regrand run, and it seems like a pretty convenient one for the circumstances. his lineup this year is a little more varied, but... maaaaybe not as good.
(I feel bad for everyone who took Berserker Risk this year. they rounded up so many donations that every single person who took it got one, and some of them got two. Berserkers!)

Job Assignment:
Officially you need to use your twitter account and ask Gilgameshbot for a class as you progress through the game. Once you beat the game you need to take and submit a screenshot of your final party which the guy running the event verifies.
The quick and dirty way is to play the game and as you get the jobs from each crystal randomly choose one to be the only class you can use from that crystal. This is what I did and I just rolled a die to pick one.
If you got one of the Fire Crystal jobs that you get after Karnak Castle then you're still stuck with the two until you get the remaining Fire Crystal jobs.
You can't get the Mime, the GBA exclusive classes, or Freelancer through these rolls. I think there's a job buying fair or something that if you donate $x you can use one.
Job Restrictions:
You must have at least one of each job in your party at all time. So by the Earth Crystal everybody will be a different job. Prior to that you can have duplicates as long as each job you have been given is being used. Some people stick with even job distribution between the Water and Fire Crystal but IMO that's excessive (and you have to fight Liquid Flame with two berserkers if you roll them and fuck that, possibly Sand Worm too).
This is all from memory so I might be wrong with some of the finer details.

Haha, I think I'll just have to join in on this.
I'll be finding out my jobs as I obtain them. pleasepleasenoberserker
EDIT: Fuck yeah, got the knight. Well, it's boring I guess, but it works.

Welp, just finished this up tonight. Final party for ExDeath was:
Bartz: Knight with Sword Magic
Lenna: Mystic Knight with Double Grip
Faris: Geomancer with Drink
Krile: Chemist with Mix
The party was all comfortably at Level 42. Could've grinded more, but meh. My strategy was basically DRAIN SWORD for Bartz and Lenna, and Giant/Protect Drinks for Faris and Krile, with the running shoes equipped on all four because hell yeah haste. Drain Sword was awesome since I didn't have to worry about healing Bartz and Lenna at all, while Faris and Krile drank up all the elixers(I had 30 stockpiled). Oh, and Krile's Mix did some decent damage to Neo, whenever she wasn't busy healing or drinking. Even Faris' Geomancy helped a little, since she used Wind Slash everytime hitting all four parts.
Anyone else who started this finish it up or are working on it?

Interesting. I am actually playing through ff5 right now for the first time. Might be too hard for me.

With that loadout you should go beat Omega and Shinryu too!
For Omega equip flame rings, give the Geomancer mix, and have the Geo+Chemist give the party Heavy status through... Dragon Power I think? That'll make you immune to the fuck off attacks like Encircle and absorb Atomic Ray. Have the Knight and MK use Thundaga Sword and swing until they connect enough to drop him. Have the other two focus on healing after stuff like Surge Beam.
For Shinyu give it the mix that inflicts berserk which will basically shut it down. From there you just need to keep on top of its attacks. You can get everybody to critical HP except your Knight and have them use Guard. Guard will make the Knight immune to regular attacks and cover means they'll take the hit for everybody else. Otherwise you can just throw phoenix downs as needed and equip your Knight and MK with shields to hope for a block. Either hope for the Aegis Shield proc and/or use coral rings to survive the opening, I don't think you can outrun Shinryu without the Masamune to berserk him before he gets tsunami off.

I've thought of joining in and going with the Custom Class v1.0 patch for bonus fun but haven't really found the time for it. because I've been playing DW8 instead

Huh, maybe I'll try that...later. I'm a bit tired of FF5 at the moment! XD I have a whole month though! Yeah, my team was generally pretty awesome. Well, except for maybe Geomancer, but it still gets a pass because Terrain is *sometimes* very useful and their outfits are adorable.
Breezing through the game until the fire crystal was very satisfying! XD
