Hello, I'm new to RMN, but I've held an active interest in designing a RPG, or rather bringing to life one of the many story ideas I have into an actual game. Sadly, I'm not so well with the resources and tools, I feel the creations I'm able to do are..well, just not acceptable for the level of game I am wanting to create.

So, I'm here recruiting a team to help work together to create a great game. Currently, I'd like to work on the story concept, I will accept co-writers if I feel we are like minded and able to mold ideas together. Other than this, I'll make a short list of "positions" I'd like to recruit for.

Map Design ( Open world )
Map Design ( Instanced )
Character Design
Combat Design/Engine/Style

Of course I'm sure there are many other positions we may need on the team and if you are interested, let me know what you can bring to the table.

A little bit about what I am aiming for, I'm a writer, I enjoy writing in the dark fantasy genre, so the game will likely follow this theme. As for the story and concept, I have a few ideas but I'd like to wait and discuss this privately with the team, assuming I can put one together.

A side note, I would like to follow the basic design model of the "tales of" series, or something close to that. I feel that would be the easiest/safest route at the moment to begin production.

Unfortunately for you this kind of plea is often ignored and ridiculed here. Most people here will tell you to...

1. Stop dreaming. People won't do all the work for you especially if this is unpaid work.

2. Show us what you can do (samples of your works) so we can judge whether or not we like your ideas and would be willing to help you.

3. Show us you're capable of and already created something tangible, otherwise you're just an idea man (like everybody else here). The difference is that we can make it happen, you don't.

4. Start small by making a prototype game using temporary graphics resources, even if they don't reflect your vision. Just showcase your story and gameplay systems for the time being. You can always care about visuals later.

Sure this means an awful amount of work for you but this is what we all do here. You have to be able to do that much too if you want people to consider you. And even then you might not get any help to be honest. People are already busy with their own projects and ideas.

My advice: try your hand at using a game making engine and make a prototype of your game, have fun and feature it here.

I agree with Avee. If you have RPG Maker you're pretty committed to
doing all the work yourself (Even having to do things your not good at.)

RPG Maker requires a time commitment. Most people are working on
their own stuff and don't have the time to invest, especially when they
don't know if the other person is capable or is just going to bail.
You should make some stuff before even considering asking anyone else
to be on a team with you.

I have to agree with the new kid. Its fun when you have a team of people working together towards making a game but avee is right about people being to busy. I wouldn't mind making characters for you but if its a waste of time then I wouldn't want to waste any of my time because I am working on something right now.
I'm pretty good in game design myself, but I don't really like doing most of the stuff required that games after designing the game on paper. Years ago I also always dreamed about getting a team that actually wants to make games out of my game designs, but I kinda stopped hoping that would ever happen now. I found a different way to help out, I just check out new projects and help with advice. It's not really a team but luckily some developers are really open to suggestions and I'm happy when they fix all the bugs that I found and even add 1 or 2 of the suggestions.

Also just finding a team isn't even the hardest thing. If you make a project over a year or so, it's almost impossible to keep the team together. Out of personal experience most will just suddenly disappear from the internet forever or just start to ignore you and everytime you talk to them on skype their status suddenly changes to "away".
Finding a new team isn't really satisfying either, you wouldn't want the game style to change mid-way.

So yeah, conclusion, make it yourself. And the best way to do that is to plan small. Instead of planning to make that epic indie RPG that is 60 hours long and has a better story than Final Fantasy, better plan something that has a small but really clever idea and can be finished without too much effort.

If you actually make some of those smaller projects and they are received well, it will actually become more possible to find team members (though I personally think that finding a good game designer as a good artist is much easier than finding a good artist as game designer).

Also: Do NOT think you can't improve. I thought I can't draw stuff at all for years, then I read several tutorials and got some hints from people I really admired for their art and realized that working on a single 20x20 maptile takes hours and not just a minute and suddenly I was able to draw graphics other people actually admired (though I personally really hate creating graphics, despite being able to do it, so I still cancelled the projects and just left them as proof that I could do it if I wanted).
