NEW POKEMON ANIME - AND THIS TIME ASH ISN'T IN IT!

This trailer over at Pokemon Jp's youtube channel confirms that a new Pokemon series is in the works. Best part about this? This new series seems to be taking a more game-based direction, using game-based characters (Red, Blue/Green, Prof. Oak and Brock as seen in the trailer) and set during the R/B/G/Y era. It's called Pokemon Origins, and I'm not sure if a US release is planned, but I hope for it.
It's about time pokemon got a new animated series that isn't Ash going on another adventure and hitting frequent reset buttons. What do you think?
While cool, I'm annoyed by the name mix-up with Blue~ I mean, Red is the silent original mute dude who spawned Ash, Blue's the stuck-up douche of a rival that's Oak's grandson that spawned Gary, and Green is the girl in the black dress only seen in the manga until Leaf Green. (Unless I missed something...but it's a minor detail anyway, so... :x)
Still, this is really nice...considering Ashy boy's just been in the spotlight for too long, with the show getting rather dull after Johto (or maybe it was because I was getting older and Misty left.. :p) Although, I can't really see Red being anything other than a mute that appears as the final challenge in the games~ :3

That's in English. In moonspeak, Red is Red and Blue is Green.
Pokemon originally came out with Red and Green versions. Then, an updated Blue version was released with sprite updates and bug fixes. That version became our Red and Blue versions.

And if you think that's confusing, don't even ask about Street Fighter.
Well, this is described as an anime special, so whatever it is, it's likely to be short. Still, great tales can be told quickly.
All in all, my reaction to this is pretty much this:

A shame there will apparently never be a full series of NOT Ash ever. Dude needs to exit stage left at this point as far as I care.
But still, this looks good. Nice to see a proper animation based more closely on the games instead of the decades old tired drivel that it's usually been.

It's a shame there hasn't been anything else done with the Colosseum/XD saga..since it was a slightly darker take on Pokemon (Shadow pokemon, and an older anti-hero protagonist in the first one). Imo, I think it'd make a pretty decent anime if they wanted to aim at an older audience with Wes as the lead again. :)
Well, series or just a special, it's a good change of pace to get something other than what we've already seen...going on six generations now~ :3

Finally a main character other than ash that broke the law of physics.
Well it look like the whole story will based on the game itself from the start to the end. (from the start I meant the annoying professor intro that you have to go through every time you start a new game) But the animation design was old mixed with newer element, well that a ironic twist I didn't expected. If the US release isn't plan I requesting a petition to make them do it.

Actually, I like Ash, but I'd like it more if his journey had some sort of conclusion. I'd like one big final series, sort of like Inuyasha: The Final Act where they dumped the better part of 200 manga episodes into about 21 episodes.
Ash grows up, he revisits all those people that he promised over the course of several series "I'll see you again", picks up his Charizard, and several other pokemon he's ditched along the way, and the series is about people's dreams and finding them or something. Maybe he teams up one last time with Brock and Misty. And has some first love thing going on.
You know, one or more satisfying points actually met.
Also, this goofball looks enough like Ash that I don't care. Start with a female trainer or forget it.

Well Ash's design is based on red from the games, ya know.

I would have preferred this as well, giving Ash's adventure a fitting end where he returns home NOT a Pokémon Master but just as a young man who has learned so much on his travels that he returns home to focus on being with his family and friends rather than focusing on battling and trying to win -- then you start a brand new series.
I haven't really followed Pokémon since Gold & Silver for the original Gameboy. But after watching that clip, I'm glad that they're starting to change things up (even if it's still pretty much the same).
Anyone ever read the pokemon manga that was ridiculously faithful the the gameboy games? Well okay, Red starts out with a Poliwhirl before he even gets his starter, of course eventually he gets a stubborn pikachu but yeah I enjoyed the manga more than the show as a kid. Though I gotta say re-watching the first couple of eps of pokemon there are an awful lot of jokes my little brain missed.

Pokemon Adventures? Didn't read it when I was young, but I picked it up recently and it beats the crud out of the anime. It feels closer to how the Pokemon world was originally intended to be (as stated by the creator of the franchise himself).

Yes, this would work too. Either make him an expert pokemon master by the end, or since the series seems to be based on slacker-mentality Taoism/Zen Buddhism, have him "fail" at pokemon but succeed at getting a girlfriend and with family.
They had something called Pokemon Chronicles that featured a bunch of side characters. But it didn't seem to work in the long term.
