SOPA 2013 (AKA: STREAMING "COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL" == FELONY)

Perhaps if these laws weren't written by people who have no knowledge of these issues or how they could be effectively prevented, they wouldn't meet with such heavy opposition.
I can understand the concept behind these laws. It makes sense that a company would want to stop piracy of its products. The trouble is that no one knows where to draw the line because they aren't properly informed on the matter, so they try to pass overarching stuff like this that catches 99% of everything because that's easier than actually learning about it. If they bothered to distinguish between the kinds of things that are harmless vs. damaging, they probably could've passed something feasible by now.
I signed the petition, btw.

This is exactly my point. And why, when you go to copyright something like, for instance, the Mune Shinri (it's my bestseller!) there are several options you can use.
Because, ummm not every artist is the same. If Square wants, they can just have "automatically remove any copyrighted". It's still a hell of a lot less of a headache than an arrest that people say is unwarranted and file a suit against them for. Whereas Selena Gomez might be more relaxed about people using her work. Because she knows it sucks.
Just to clarify, there are at least 7 types of major licenses:
http://creativecommons.org/licenses/
All Right Reserved - Pretty much what you have major companies using.
Attribution - As long as you say, this is by Bulma, things are peachy. You can even create fanworks and such. Or re-release the thing with the last seven pages missing.
Attribution ShareAlike - Same as attribution. They can even use it as a commercial thing, but they need to accept the same licensing terms as you (they can't for instance declare "All Rights Reserved" on their copy of your product, and suddenly decide you're copying them or something).
Attribution NoDerivs - Same as above. You can't make a spinoff series.
Attribution Non Commercial - You can't make money off it.
Attribution Non Commercial No Derivs
Attribution Non Commercial ShareAlike
Having some blanket law screws over the wishes of indie artists, who don't wanna jail people, they just want credit.

Hey! I think Selena Gomez is cute... At least in the sense that she looks like a 16-year old.
Back on topic, though, I signed the petition. I don't know if it will make a difference, though.

You people should read a little about Copyright laws, because most of your concerns are either unfounded or don't make sense.
This.
Thanks to this, all my pictures and sound are suddenly legal. If not, I'll threaten the copyright ppl with listening to it on 10 hour loop.
Which will of course work.

It's mawk!
Of course I don't.
I know just enough to be bad at a wide variety of fields, instead of really good at one thing and useless at all the others. I've studied enough about mycology to know two or three good mushrooms to pick, but not how to tell them from the bad ones (yay, I can suicide myself in the forest). I can cook just well enough to ensure I eat half-cooked meat the rest of my life, or eat really good kimchee ramen. I can improvise music with an editor but not enough musical theory to actually make anything worth listening to. Etc.
"A little knowledge is a dangerous thing."
(Which I probably misused too, because it refers to arrogance about said knowledge, not the jack of all trades issue)
Anyway, SOPA is bad.

Nothing reveals Humanity so well as the games it plays. A game of betrayal, where the most suspicious person is brutally murdered? How savage.

Why does this keep popping up? Why can't it just die forever?
It will never die.
As long as that greedy congress eventually gets it passed in 2048 A.D. when everybody on this planet is a walking vegetable garden then we'll never have to hear from it again.
...Because all of us will be in jail by then.

Because our government is run by a-holes.
Only the most controlling types run for office (drafting random people and having them accept/refuse would be way better than voting, because voting system means it is always the ambitious types that run). And their job isn't being done if they don't write laws, so they write useless ones so they can get paid.
Think about it. Normal decent people when shot down (for a relationship, for example) tend to walk away. Creeps and jerks keep asking and asking when the girl says "not interested" until she files a restraining order. So, we need to "file a restraining order" against this bill. Read the fine print, and find something so egregiously wrong with it (something like it restricts the economy or free speech) that it gets permanently banned as unconstitutional.
There are literally 3 signatures left.
As I was typing this, it went over. Here's hoping it goes to several times the required amount, and the law makers get screwed over.

I'm not a US citizen. if I signed, it wouldn't mean anything.
SOPA is your law. with the copycat government we've got up in Canada, I'm sure we'd have our own variety of SOPA within a month, but there's nothing I can do about it here and now.
and, bulma? you should really learn something about copyright law before you start strategizing vis a vis this bill. free use and free speech don't mean what a lot of people think they do.

Your government isn't nearly as copycat as you think.
They look similar at surface level, but really, the only place Canada is worse... is farming.
They invented the canola oil that's plaguing us, and invented the sterile seeds that Monsanto uses to control agriculture.
Their healthcare is reputedly "the same", but they have sense enough to have done it right, whereas we have a insurance bureaucracy instead of a socialized medicine. And because Canada wants tourism (and residents), they back off from many of the laws US stupidly accepts.
I don't know nothing about no copyrights.
But I do know some about free speech. There are several reasonable restrictions to it (can't incite others to violence, can't yell "fire" in a crowded building, etc). But there are also some unreasonable restrictions to it. For example: FCC censorship in general is based around censoring "obscene" words, but actually, removed of the importance we make of them, "damn" or "hell" or whatever are just words. If they can be screened out, what about an unpopular idea? Suppose I get on national TV and say that the government should downsize, or maybe that the FDA needs to clean up its act and stop letting bad drugs through? Couldn't they edit an entire minute of what I just said, and accuse me of doing something inappropriate (in this day and age, they could even get photoshopped pictures of me)? Here's the screwy thing. All the people on stage with me, know exactly what I said, but they can't share it with anyone (nobody will believe them because they've watched the news). They can even be talked out of it, if they're weak-willed enough, given the odd nature of memories.
So yea, I think I know some about free speech. I know full well what people should be allowed to say, and it has nothing to do with copyright.
We sang Happy Birthday last year.

You were totally asking for it.
Also, since you didn't go and help (because obviously you could), none of us will travel up to Canada to stop SOPA from passing there.
Not that any of us would do that anyway.
