Monsanto
Funny thing about Monsanto : They're always a single law away from total bankruptcy. As it stands now, they need protective laws just to remain viable.

I'm not a US citizen. if I signed, it wouldn't mean anything.
SOPA is your law. with the copycat government we've got up in Canada, I'm sure we'd have our own variety of SOPA within a month, but there's nothing I can do about it here and now.
Actually, political activism is becoming global in scope and participation. With the power of the internet, you don't have to be a US citizen to support a US law, candidate, or social movement. Saying you don't live there so there's nothing you can do is just a piddly excuse.

Also, since you didn't go and help (because obviously you could), none of us will travel up to Canada to stop SOPA from passing there.
I'm absolutely shattered. I'm beside myself, and both of me are crying hot tears.
and Dyhalto, I'm totally not disputing that. I'm just talking about the petition. a Canadian citizen has routes of activism available to him or her, but petitioning the White House isn't one of them -- since what does my support mean to a government that I'm not supporting to begin with? I can write letters, I can make slogans, I can tie banners to birds and set them loose, but a petition is just a name on a list, and there are certain restrictions in what names matter.
the only connection I have with the White House is that two hundred years ago my direct ancestors burned it down. if I try to use that as a bargaining chip, I'll get put on a list.
trying to separate people into camps based on whether or not you believe they're acting out against SOPA the correct amount is hugely childish, anyway. I got nothing to prove to you people, and I probably never will.
Wait, that was you?!? I thought it was that other British dude who lit those torches.
Hmmmmmmmmmmm, you've got a point there.
I don't doubt it about Monsanto. Unsustainable farming will never be sustainable. (That was a joke, btw)

mawk, while you can't petition the white house directly, you can petition the citizens of the US. If you know people who live there, get them concerned. You can do this by crossing the border and being active, or online using social media, or by just telling your online American buds "hey, get interested".
Not that I'm knocking you or anything. Just pointing out that borders don't make us powerless.
Also, the white house burned because Jefferson was an idiot, not because you Brits are so great ʕノ•ᴥ•ʔノ
