NEED PEOPLE TO HELP ME MAKE MY WORLD

So I'm pretty dedicated to this now. I came up with this idea for this game 2 days ago and have started making it. It's a pretty massive project. 3 large continents, 1 small one. The overworld map is 500x500 and I need help filling it and making it look better. That's all I really need right now. I might need some writers and stuff later on but I want help building my world. Thanks in advance!
edit: So definitely not doing 500x500. Waaaayy too much empty space. 4 different overworlds sounds much more reasonable. "Help" can also be interpreted as tips and such instead of actual mapping, this is a side project and I don't think I should be asking people to devote their time to it.

Some questions in regards to the map:
1. What maker are you using?
2. Is this a custom tileset, a downloaded tileset, or the RTP?
3. Would you be able to post some screenshots of what you have so far?

500x500 is pretty damn large even for an overworld...unless you can post a screenie or two of it, my only advice is to cut it down by at least half~ :)

LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

For $30 I will definitely make your ridiculously huge overworld map for you. However I would also like to help you possibly make it smaller, because speaking as a veteran mapper, that is enormous and it will be more attractive and more usable if it is a more reasonable size. Message me if you're interested, we can figure out details.
Some of my previous work, some old and some new, though only one is part of an old school style overland (and it's shitty because I did it more than nine years ago):

Your 2 days of dedication are an inspiration to us all.
Anywho, on topic... ummm... here's some inspiration!

haha Even though I'm the one who said it, thinking of it in the context of those one liners, makes me laugh at it in a whole new light.

Oh I completely understand. I have actually decided on a different overworld for each continent so that sequence skips can be more easily avoided and such. And those over worlds are probably not gonna be bigger than 150x150

I'm impulsive, I do these kind of things, got the idea, bought the maker, and got to work

It's a massive project for me, I don't normally just make games. It's a little intimidating.

1. VX Ace
2. RTP because this I really just want to use this game to learn how to make better games, and meet some people who can help me make better games.
3. Things have changed. No more 500x500 overworld. I was dumb for even thinking about doing that.

Maybe when I start to get really serious I'll think about it. I'm using this as a learning experience :) You're awesome though!
Provided you are still looking for help, you may want to provide as much info as you can about the maps. Things like concept sketches, continent descriptions, the maps you may have created for it already, the number of dungeons and placement throughout the world...etc.

Totally, I just realized the most I said was 4 continents. Well The two larger continents are furthest east and west. Named Eastundr and Westundr. Eastundr is a very temperate continent, with a large forest on the north half that transitions into a marsh in the southeast. A main reason for this is the fact that it is heavily favored by the gods over the other continents. Which would also explain why this is also the richest continent, anything coming from Westundr must come through Eastundr. The people there enjoy a high standard of living and are very rarely accosted by the gods. Things are considerably worse off in Westundr, which contains a very large desert to the north and a savanna-like grassland in the south. The main areas of civilization are around a very long, winding river in the center of the continent and the southern coastline(where all the ports are located). The next continent is Northundr. This continent is basically Siberia, except Spring stopped coming long ago, the snow never melts. The people who live are tough, because they have to be. All the buildings are made of stone, except for the larger ones which require iron to stand. Anything imported, of course, comes from Eastundr. Even though Northundr is technically closer to Westundr, Nothing can be shipped from there due to the large ice shelf that has formed on Northundr's west coastline(the gods' doing, of course). Westundr and Northundr haven't been in direct contact for over a century. The fourth continent is in the middle of all the others, and is significantly smaller. This is the land of the gods, referred to by the mortals simply as "The Seat." No mortal has stepped foot on this continent in over 150 years. I'll focus on the details of the continent though, This continent is beautiful. Absolute perfection, except for the World Scar, which is the entrance to the underworld. It's basically a large black crevice. Each of the gods has a castle on this continent, all along a single path, the "Champions' Road." And a large building at the end of the path, the Pantheon(I haven't come up with a name for it yet). So there's some details on the continents themselves, I am working on some concept sketches that may take a while to upload and stuff, due to not having a scanner. But yeah. Lot of text.
My game doesn't even have a world map.
World maps are overrated. Just have roads that you
can actually walk on to your next destination instead.
I've made three overworld maps for the games I posted on RMN. Well, the cancelled game had maps stitched together that made up the overworld map, but, yeah. Anyway, one was 31 by 25. Another was 17 by 19. The most recent one was the absolute minimum of 17 by 13.
The biggest map I've made is 51 by 51. It was something of a hassle to make, to be honest.

I wanna be like "how do you even make a 17x13 world map unless your game only has three locations"
But actually it's pretty easy to imagine, as long as the world map is purely decorative and doesn't have any battles.
But if you want battles between zones, then you probably want the player travelling about two screen lengths between each location, most of the time. That'll get the player in about three battles, and then three more battles when he returns over the same section on the way back, which is a totally respectable number of battles. It's high enough to ensure they're probably gonna fight each enemy at least once, without being high enough to become super obnoxious if the player has to return to the same town six times to stay at the inn or restock on items.
The old FF4 method of basically treating a huge stretch of the overworld as a full-length dungeon is horrid and awful and there's a reason games stopped doing that. Please make an actual dungeon instead. Much less ugly and much more engaging.
