MARIO'S MANSION 3?
Posts
We've had some demand for an interlude community event between Super RMN World and Super RMN World 2. October is upon us! Mario's Mansion 2 wasn't really a commmunity-focused event because we wanted to make a focused game, but Super RMN World proved that an open community game can have a legit feedback process and be great.
Who would be down to participating in Mario's Mansion 3: a ghost house/spooky-themed Mario community event that would run for all of October?

I'm in! I didn't play the first MM but I played the second and it was really well-done. I need more experience making ghost house levels anyway. :D
I do need to get my nightmare on, so I would join.
author=nin8halosMario Mansion games are quickfix, bro. The gist is to make a ghost house level, and then all the submitted levels are put together, shaken up, and a game pops out!
Sounds like a good idea to me. So what's the plan?
I'll endeavour to make a level for this.

Yeah I'm not looking to make a 60 level mega game from this. I'd aim for 10-12 levels.
author=SolitayreThese events need a really tight timeframe for submissions, plus the release date has to be October 31st.author=kentonaYeah I'm not looking to make a 60 level mega game from this. Yes. I'd also like a World map this time. Remember how TTBros2 had a part of the map look like the inside of Bowser's Castle? Can we do that?

Yeah, def.
I'd like to get this up ASAP. Anyone good with CSS and stuff?
Here's my thoughts on what to do for this:
-Old school Mario/Castlevania style. No text.
-10-12 levels with a world map and one or two branching paths. If we get a LOT more level submissions maybe we'll do more, but I think 10-12 is a decent goal to aim for.
-No bosses except the final boss at the end.
-Not every level needs to be a "ghost house" style level with puzzles and tricks but they should all have a haunted, ghostly theme.
-Each level is a different area of the mansion, with Entryway, ballroom, library, gardens, creepy cellar, attic, elevator, etc. A room should have an implied identity rather than just be vague.
-No power ups except Mushroom and Hammer suit. (Hammer suit can kill ghosts.) Maybe we can re-skin the hammers as axes if we want to go full hog with Castlevania references (You know that's my vote.)
-We could put together a collection of consistent music and graphics for everyone to use. (No more "guess what this monster does.")
-Deadline for level submissions will probably be mid October. After that, a week for feedback and changes. Levels that don't make these deadlines are out. We want this game out by Halloween.
That means for a week or so everyone needs to be good about making prompt updates and being willing to play some levels for feedback. Not everyone will be expected to play every level but we will need some people willing to play through some levels and provide feedback. Again, we want the game out by Halloween.
Hoe does that sound? I know some people are burnt out after RMN World but I'm hoping this can be a fun, energizing event that we can knock out quickly and efficiently and i think that's preferable to having it hanging over us for months.
I think we can do it. What say you?
Sincerely,
Drill Sergeant Solitayre

In case you haven't noticed, this is going to be Solitayre's show :)
I'm fine with all of that, except maybe the no power ups. Why not a leaf? Those can be awesome in ghost houses :) Same with the suit thing and invisible floors, walls, etc. Why not just omit the flowers?
