PUPPET HEROES

My name is Fran and I work as engineer. Video games are my great passion. Apart from playing them, I have been programming games since 20 (I am 34 nowadays). I have performed fighting games, platforms games, role playing games, etc..
I left this world with the birth of my son, but now that I have more time is when I have picked up this theme with more enthusiasm than ever.
At the end of my last project (“Exodus Ex-tournament”), I concluded a stage in my life, although another ambitious idea haunted my mind ... "Puppet Heroes".

I have created a crowdfunding project. Please, collaborate with us. The page is the next:

Thank you in advance

Also, Comic Sans. Really? I already lost all hope in this project.
Please don't backseat mod Nightowl. If you think there's a problem then report the post and the mod team will address it as needed.

e: For the record we do allow posting kickstarters and we've worked with devs of others to promote other kickstarters on RMN in the past.

Man, I'm really beginning to grow a serious hatred for all these "give me a bunch of undeserved money" Kickstarter/Indiegogo things.

Your project is illegal. Straight up illegal. You're using graphical assets ripped (read: stolen) from commercial games, and if that wasn't bad enough you're using RM2k3 which, if it's the English translation, is also illegal.

30,000$ for an RM2k3 game. Thirty. Thousand. Dollars.
I really like the project (as an RPG Maker project), but there is some things, already mentioned by the people here that makes it a little hard to... well, give money support to this game. And it's presentation. Systematically it's pretty nice, it's a custom battle system :D!. And has nice animations and stuff.

But the presentation lacks a lot of things. The long description is not very attractive (sadly I don't have any advice for that). The game seems more like you're selling an idea, which is not the way IndieGogo/Kickstarter works, these things work on a something that needs just a push from the crowd, not "I want to make a game". And third, the video, it's nice to see and hear a little about the project from its creator/developer/team/asdf. It's not a good thing to use a trailer format for the presentation video. No offense intended, but if you get to 1000$ I will get rid of my family treasures.

The project seems really good aside from those things, whose are more related to the commercial aspect of the game. After all, you're selling an idea to a crowd, even if the final product is free. That makes things a lot of times more difficult.

Anyway, I hope you continue on "this world of "us"" :P, no matter what happens,

I'm sorry but I can't take anything that seems to have the screen be 90% shock-pink most of the time seriously. Also, dat font, yo. I could whine about a hundred other things I guess, but I won't. I'll just conclude with that at least it's not RTP graphics, good job. You're already better than 90% of the crowdfunding games I've seen here. Incredible! Except for the fact that the graphics are from commercial games instead, which arguably isn't a very good thing either.

This this this fucking this. I DESPISE the culture of Kickstarter. It is absolutely ridiculous. Although I'm probably still going to use it one day; however, I won't be pushing for idiotic "stretch goals" for things that should already be in the fucking game.

"Oh, hey, if you give us like $100,000+ more, we'll be A LITTLE LESS LAZY."

It's understandable (for a smaller amount of money) that some devs want their games to be ported to consoles or something, but when it's something really trivial like a skin, I lose my shit. (I'm fucking looking at you, Wayforward Studios)

What the hell is this? The graphics look completely amatuerish, and it has those ugly compressed battle backgrounds, and you are making this with an engine that isn't even legally translated to English? You must be joking.

The thing is, if this were a regular RPG Maker project I'd appreciate it a little more, but you are trying to raise money to make something commercial out of a program that has the stability of a wooden, termite-bitten step-stool? Get real.
I remember Exodus Ex-Tournament, it was pretty cool for its time (We're talking early 2000's here. Anyone who could make a side-view battle system back then was worshiped as a God). That being said, I'm not sure of how honest it is of you to launch this campaign using footage of a 10 year old amateur game. I guess it shows that you have actual aptitudes for game development, but if you want to be taken seriously, you should wait until you have more current, original content to show...
I don't see where it says the game will be made in 2k3.

The graphics don't look amateurish to me. Not utterly pro either. I do recognize some of the stuff as ripped, though.

Isn't pink a good color to have as a background because of how it doesn't wash other colors out or blend in with them(or something to that effect)? Just look at early Simpsons episodes, lots of pink in the bg.

I get the anger towards people asking for money for the things we've been doing for free for years, but this project isn't the worst of it's kind. Plus it says it's going to be free, so that does make the 30k a little more reasonable.

I agree 1000% on expensive nonsense rewards.
Man, I should have thought about this sooner.
Ok people, give me 20k and I'll complete my AHE entry. It features custom graphics and shit. Add 5k and I'll throw in an extra boss.
The fact of the matter is this: There are rips in the video. This is illegal, straight out. If you want to draw people in you can't do it with promises of things that aren't going to be in the game - that is, the moving monster rips from Breath of Fire II (don't question me about this, I know BoF II rips when I see them.)

If this is on 2k3 it is also illegal. If it isn't 2k3 but uses pieces of the RTP (animations~), it is illegal. Using edited rips is also illegal.

What do I recommend? Show only what you have of the actual game that works and will be in the final game. Even crudely-drawn MS Paint graphics would be better than rips (you're setting yourself up for suing from several directions). I'm sure there are a lot of free-to-use graphics out there that you can use for stand-ins that won't get you in legal trouble.

Work on your presentation a bit more. Aim for professional or at least simple and sleek.

Lastly, I want more information in this topic please. You want people to click your link and give you money? Give them a reason to.

I'm gonna talk to the gang about setting up some guidelines for Kickstarter/Indiepop/etc topics. Just posting a link and barely a description is lazy and just irks me.
Asking people to donate money to a project being made in a potential illegal piece of software which also contains material stolen from other commercial sources is just wrong and I've dispatched an email to Indiegogo stating such. You should honestly know better than to do such a thing, capoeria.
Whoa, whoa, I don't know how you guys even get the idea that Puppet Heroes is being made in RPG Maker 2003 when there's no mention of it anywhere in the link that capoeira posted?? And just because it looks like it's made in RPG Maker 2003 doesn't mean it is made in RPG Maker 2003....

But yeah, I agree that rips are totally a no-no, and the sprites shown in the link do look quite blurry and pixelated to the point where it is ripped...

And I'll be frank. The trailer is just bad.
Maybe it's because he used some of RM2k3's RTP BG

If it's in RM2k3, it's illegal. If it's not, it's still illegal because it uses RTP assets.

I know that, of course. I'm just saying I don't know how people are jumping the gun about Puppet Heroes being made in RPG Maker 2003, but after Archeia's supposition, yeah, that makes sense in some way.

At one point in the trailer you can see a 2k3 textbox with unfixed font. Pretty telling.

I also think he's grasping straws ... Then again he need 50 euros per day to get funded, so if enough people get drawn into donating ...
