wow you have items AND magic items
easily the most significant design choice I've seen in gaming history
e: please put me in the game as a character I don't have much money but I will tell all my internet friends about the project okay :-) my OC is basically bleach from ichico except with blue hair wearing sunglasses also if you could get his original seiyuu (voice actor) that would be ideal thanks!

see guys this pie chart proves that he has actual operating costs and a budget plan, what more could you ask for

e: god look at that tiny-ass slice for music
you know how professional musicians charge incredibly meagre rates regardless of their skill, experience, or prior successes? the world's a funny place

Well, he obviously had to pay for that super expensive 2k3 "programming". You know how difficult that shit is.
I think you guys scared him away...
I am not familiar with old RPGs, so I couldn't recognize any rips or how it was made in RM2K3. But that pink background was just bad, and there is nothing about this that can't be beaten by many RPGs we have here. :P

it's a stronger bet that he just wasn't planning on following up in this topic in the first place. his post was copy-pasted from the indiegogo page, which doesn't send a great message insofar as caring about anything but advertising yourself.
if we did scare him away, though? good! I'm not going to make excuses for the inexcusable just because in some misguided sense it'd make me the better man. he deserves the truth, even though the truth isn't something that he wants
author=PizzaI used to think the same thing, but really, the cost is like a wage. If you hired someone to do coding, and they are paid by the hour, the amount of time put into coding would be pretty high compared to everything else.

Since we all do this shit for free in our spare time anyways, it seems ludicrous.
edit: I do not condone this person for getting paid wages to do 2k3 coding. I'm simply stating why a person might put a high cost to programming.
people are not necessarily entitled to earn a living wage for what they do if what they do is horribly low-quality and only benefits themselves
e: oh yeah, I'm agreeing with you! the idea that working on a personal project entitles you to a wage automatically is something that I've run into a lot, so I'm just giving a pithy little counterargument to it while we're on the subject.

Well, if there was any real programming involved besides CBS/CMS stuff (which people around here can do while still having a day job) then I'd understand. "Real" indie games and the like obviously cost a lot of money which is why I only get off the head at things like this.
That's silly. That's like saying that digital art is not "real" art because you can just open a program, press some buttons and Bam! Instant art! Sure, we can't say it's 'coding', but I think it fits the bill to say it's 'programming'. It still takes time and effort (and thus money), and that makes it pretty real, if you ask me... And last but not least, it is still capable of creating good games.
Also, just because someone chooses to do something for free on their spare time, it doesn't mean others don't have the option to sell it.
Gee, no wonder why rpg maker games are not taken seriously even when they're good, if even WE don't value the work behind them. xD

I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

I think we do value the work behind RPG Maker games
The value is just significantly less than thirty thousand dollars
Or I guess twenty-four thousand dollars for the parts that are actually in RPG Maker plus six thousand for resources, according to the AMAZING PIE CHART. Actually the $12500 for programming doesn't bother me nearly as much as $7500 for STORY, which I suspect is $7500 more than any AAA developer has ever paid for story.
Though also I'll admit it's hard to take this kind of value for something seriously when you yourself do that thing for free; it's not "RPG Maker sucks and isn't worth money" so much as it's "All of us are so much better at RPG Maker than you that we can make better games for free than you can make with a year's wages."

This is why I put real in quotes. Because it's a little sarcastic. I mean games that are coded using actual coding languages and not just strings in event editors.
@Pizza: Fair enough. Yeah, I noticed the quotes, but they were rather ambiguously placed, so I thought you were looking down on event-based programming just for taking less skill than learning a scripting language... when what matters are the results, I think.
@LockeZ: I don't know, there are (supposedly) six people involved in this project. If you were to take the whole illegal aspect out of the equation and pay them all minimum wage for at least six months, I'm guessing the costs would surpass the $30,000 mark; but then people is like "not everybody deserves a wage for their work". So let's say they're willing to take less than that-- then people is like "Slave wages!" ...And I know what people really want is transparency, but sometimes it would seem like there's really no winning scenario. xD
Also, I'm sure you know this, but by "story" he probably means all the writing involved, including the translation to English and such...

Personally the problem I have with this is that if he wants money for something, he should never ever in any part of any public thing he puts out use stuff from commercial games. That alone is enough to make me not want to see this game ever again (and tell other people to do the same).
There's also the fact that it looks amateurish and how 6 people couldn't come up with a trailer more impressive than that is a mystery. Like I said earlier, 90% of the screen seem to be shock-pink all the time. The music quality is horrible, the animations are slow and clunky and it's just generally not a very well done trailer.
Shouldn't someone that claims to have been making games for 14 years have at least some idea of what a good trailer looks like? The trailer makes the game look like a very generic Attack-mashing RPG.
I can't see this project being funded. "Items and magic items"? Is that supposed to impress me?

That took six people? What the hell?
If it takes six people to do something that one person can do, they should get paid the amount that one person would get paid.
I feel like he is inflating that to sound like a bigger company, which is a pretty common practice for small businesses. Those six people are actually him, his dad who offered "emotional support" and knows how to add music and text to a video file, two online friends who agreed to play it once each to test it once it's done, a musician he has in mind but hasn't asked yet, and a person in the screenshot topic who gave him constructive criticism once.

So we all pretty much feel the same way and I would be willing to bet that the OP didn't come to this site to participate in conversation. They just spread the word and won't be coming back to address our concerns.
Liberty mentioned discussing guidelines and rules for posting these kinds of projects. Bashing the shit out of this project any further on RMN isn't going to accomplishing anything. Bashing it on the official page would do more good. Which still has no funding.
Btw, the production time is 2 years not 6 months and 30k euros is actually 40k USD :/ and 2 of the 6 members listed have nothing to do with the actual content of the game.

That's a period, not a comma. He's actually asking for 30 euros, none of which have been granted.
EDIT: Scratch that, he's from Spain.

I have never seen anyone put something like $30.000. But then again, I might be wrong about the cultural differences. In Southeast Asia, 30.000 is actually 30,000 and vice versa. I am not sure which country he's from, but I guess he really asked for 30 thousand, not just 30. :P

What exactly do you mean by this? This question coming from someone who lives in the only developed country in Southeast Asia (you should know what that is :))
I asked because the webpage clearly put 30,000 Euros, not $30,000.
