A PLEASURE TO MEET YOU.

Greetings. I've been looking into RPG maker recently, not as a means to create an RPG, but possibly as a means by which to test out a few of the ideas I have. My particular specialty, or least what I believe to be my specialty, is mechanical design.

After looking around, I'm happy to see that I can customize damage formulas to what I need, and hopefully the RPG Maker software has enough tweaking options to emulate what I'm trying to do to a close estimate. Thankfully, the stats seem to work just as the ones I'm working with - particularly surprising seems to be luck, which if what I read correctly, acts as ailment/effect resistance, just as in Golden Sun, from what much my what I've built up has been inspired by.

I hope to learn more about what the software is capable of, and perhaps with a bit of guidance and mcgyvering, can do a solid test of my ideas. Thank you for your patience, and I look forward to working with many of you.

If you did this on purpose we're going to be gourd friends. Welcome!

"Gourd" friends? Really? Really?

Welcome to RMN, Rolina! Share your creativity with us!
Oh dear, thanks for catching that typo.

@Marrend: Well, that's the plan. I hope you'll help me test it, too. Several minds are better than one, especially one biased towards the system in question.

I've been a tester on occasion, so I might be up for that. It depends on when you need one, and how busy I am with my own stuff.

RPG Maker is capable of performing and doing many fine things, especially if you’re planning to use VX Ace.

You seem like a nice witch, er, person. Just please don't cast a mini spell on me, please!

Post lots and contribute the best you can. Remember, makerscore is life. Once you have enough of it, then your mission in life is complete.
Hey, everyone. I'm Jimmy. :D I'm 23 and from Michigan.

Just got RPG Maker VX Ace on the Steam Christmas sale and have been poking around to see what it can do. I got the idea to make a game based on the DnD campaign I'm running for some of my friends, so of course the plot might go off in ridiculous directions or characters might say or do ridiculous things at times. The entire plot is already more or less written for me, it just requires a lot of time and prettifying, so the bulk of what I'll be doing is slowly learning the software since I'm not exactly proficient yet. :P

Also, for some reason it never even occurred to me that I might get to play other people's games on here. SCORE! Hooray for more RPGs. Can't get enough of them.

Any helpful hints that weren't in the FAQ are always appreciated.

EDIT: HAH! Posted in someone else's introduction thread. I haven't used a forum in like 2 years. This here slack could use some cutting.
@Addit: My profession is entertainer, my spells make games. I'm a witch everyone will like. ^-^

@Jim: Hey, that's where I got it. From what I hear you can do quite a bit with it, so I plan to take advantage of that and learn what I need to do and how to do it.
Be very welcome both of you! Have fun and work lots on your future rpg maker projects! Don`t be me~~

Speaking of witch, take a peak* at the current event, the Game Chill! I`d participate if I didn`t know it`ll end up being just another failed attempt at finishing something

(finished babbling)

anyways it`s fun and YIELDS MAKERSCORE

Edit:
*Peek.I meant peek. I can't believe I've made this mistake.

Two introductions in one thread! Inconceivable! The Royal Pyramid has been besieged!

You should totally, and definitely, play games that are on here. Both of you and myself as well.

*Edit: Also, I have to echo JosepghSeraph on checking out Game Chill 2013 and not just because I'm a judge. Even if you don't make something for the event, events usually churn out some really interesting games!
Ooooh, I really like your pic. That's the rune of Judgement from Suikoden 4, right?

But back semi-on-topic, it does look neat. Reminds me of a silly campaign I once ran where the group went through the candy cane forest to fight Santa. Can't remember what he was doing, but it was DIABOLICAL, I assure you!

Oh, no...that's right... the characters were failure bandits.
This makes me sad because I know that no one will ever recognize my profile pic ):

RMN events are extremely fun when you're an incompetent lazy ass me
@Jim: I think it's called the Rune of Punishment, at least in the US localization. Personally, I'm more of a fan of the Bright Shield and Black Sword runes from S2. I'd love to see what the rune of Beginnings would be like as well...
It's funny. As I saw you comment on this, I just realized my error. lol
I'm the minority Suikoden 3 fan. Wooo!
Oh, another friend has appeared! Welcome, Jimmy bob~ It's cool to have more Suikoden fans here! Granted I've only played number two... but I plan on playing more. I hear Suikoden 3 isn't quite up to snuff?
I love the third game and it's huge amounts of customization, but dislike the pairing system and... well, the rather drag-on nature of the fights. Compared to other Suikoden games, S3 fights take forever. I suppose if it was done more efficiently and they did away with the pairing system, it'd be much less of an issue.

Anywho... Y'alls thoughts on Tierkreis?

Yeah, I grabbed the Rune of Punishment image from Suikosource, though I made some edits and re-sized it. I'm only going to be using it for as long as I'm a judge for Game Chill 2013, but if I become a judge for a different event, I will bear the rune use it again.

As for an image for the Rune of Beginning, they have:

Which I think might match the opening of Suikoden 2? It's been a while since I've played the game. Actually, I'm afraid to watch the opening FMV of that game, as I become "Suikoscrewed" from it (in other words, I can't put the damn thing down until all the 108 are recruited, and I face off against Jowy). Though, some might argue that such a condition is not a bad thing...

*Edit: I've not played Tierkreis, actually! Or Tactics! Was there another one? I dunno. I've definitely played all the numbered entries, though.
Yeah, that's what it looks like... but I wanna know what it does. Kind of like the Sun Rune in V - you never actually get it, so you don't actually get to see the spells you could use with it.

There was also a PSP Suikoden, but we never got it here. It was another sidegame like Tierkreis.

Hiya!

I liked all the things about 3 that others don't like. lol
The tactical map battles, the skill system, the longer battles, the pair up system, etc. Sometimes games try different things and this time it worked for me. I'm also a giant fan of the swapping character story by chapters.
Edit: Oh, and I'm generally highly biased towards melee characters (in general), so them being waaaaay overpowered at decent skill levels helped out a bit in fight speed anyways.

As for Tierkreis, I played it like for-freaking-ever ago, but don't remember it leaving a lasting impression.

The skill system in 3 was the absolute best thing that game brought to the table. I'm glad they brought it back in 5 (with a vengeance!), though training the "epic skills" in 5 was weird. I definitely wasn't a huge fan of the fact that 3's big-board strategy battles (or whatever you would call them) used a horribly simplified version of the base combat engine to resolve conflicts. Though, I hate-hate-hate the fact that 5 uses real-time (I suck at RTS to begin with) for their big-board strategy battles, though the abilities that one could use to get a "first strike" definitely made it more playable for idiots people like me.
