WYRM WARRIORS! DESIGN A LOCATION!
Posts
Let me get this straight though - who's leading development? unity? Is unity the only one with access to the core game files? Or are we going to create a dropbox where anyone can see how the game is going?
Even if the dropbox is read-only, it would be nice to perhaps make access to the current build of the game public. Not everyone has to have edit access to the folder, but at least people can get a feel of how to design the maps if we play through the systems of what are already there.

my sneaking suspicion is that absolutely zero maps are probably done, with the possible exception of the Tower of Forests
This is correct. Why don't I make some maps to get us started and, if they meet general approval, we can use those as a basis?

I've volunteered to continue Wyrm Warriors and I'd assumed that meant leading development. However, my ultimate goal is to make this a good game. We have a lot of talented developers on this site and this is my first time doing a community project, so I'm on new ground here. If someone else with experience would like to step up and take the role of lead developer, I'm fine with that, as long as they have the drive to complete the game.
Otherwise, I'll do my best as lead developer and ask those with more experience with community projects for advice. For example, I didn't even realize that a basic style of mapping should be established, and in hindsight, that seems like it should have been obvious ^^;;
I think the Dropbox proposal is a great idea. Do you think it needs to be read-only or can we trust people not to abuse it?
I don't know anything about Dropbox. Can you set it so you can download the file, but make it so you can't tamper with the source file?
Yes, that's totally possible and may be our best bet. Then new material will be added to the dropbox file as it comes in.

I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

I would definitely make it read-only. Otherwise, even if they're just harmlessly trying to add new maps, people will make their edits to an older version of the game and accidentally overwrite each-others' work.
Aside from Arandomgamemaker, no one's claimed any of their own maps to make. At this point, I'm going to open this up for anyone to make any map. Please post here that you're claiming a map so no one else will attempt it.
I'll start: I'm claiming Cherusta.

I am now attempting to map the town of Marison.

Inner buildings and docks dungeon not yet done.
Gourd_Clae suggested I make a page with all the maps on it, and I've done so. ^_^ Click here to go to it.
We'll use this as our master list for claiming and completing maps.

Welp, I'm a bit late to the party, but I thought I may as well try and submit an idea for this.
Name: Temple of Soul
Type: Other Location
Biome: Mountain
Character tie-ins: None at the moment, but anyone is welcome to tie their character in if they wish too.
Notable Features: The temple lays on the top of a large mountain, surrounded by a gate to keep undesirables out. The temple itself has a disco theme going on; the entire place constantly has outdated music being played, with rainbow lights covering the setting, with monks scattered about as they dance around.
Description/Relevance: This super groovy temple is home to the psychedelic Funkmasters, a group of monks who have watched over the land of Aremen for countless generations, keeping order and peace throughout the land by using the power of their far out magical abilities. But thanks to the party crashing Wyrm Wizard, the Funkmasters are now overwhelmed, and powerless to do anything to stop the wizard and his goals. The curse has corrupted the temple, and has destroyed large areas of it, and what's left is now in a state of crumbling decay.
I was thinking this would be a hidden area, with it being up in the mountains of another area. The monks and such could give helpful advice to the players, maybe even train them a bit, along with add to the lore of Areman.

author=LibertyActually this sounds fascinating; (but why do you spell "upon" that way?) B"osis" sunds alot like "Isis" so i'd love a touch of middle east. anywa.. hmm
Name:Osis
Type: Town
Biome: River
Character tie-ins: If you want to put your character here, feel free to say so.
Districts: None
Notable features: Large, slow flowing river. Area around is bushlands.
Description/other details: Initially a small settlement built on the banks of the Osis river, the mix of bushfires and bandit attacks chased the citizenry to live apon the river itself. Now, more than half a century later, Osis has become a town of trade set apon riverboats and large rafts.
Wood bridges run between large platforms and, being a town of little space, tall-storied houses are built either on stilts above the river or on larger platforms that float on the surface and can be moved if necessary.
On the shores of the river you can find small farms surrounded by walls, but these are often ramshackle and abandoned during bandit attack or in case of bushfire (an often occurrence in the area).
The folk of Osis are friendly and down-to-earth, prizing skills in fishing and net-crafting. Building with wood is also a prized ability, as is honesty and aiding one's friends in times of crisis.
The leader of Osis is a small man with broad shoulders - a master crafter when it comes to wood. He designed the newer stilt houses and is praised as both a wise and intelligent leader, if a little gruff.
And you really shouldn't let me create towns. I get far too involved.
Name: Mgombay
Type: Village
Biome: Jungle (If you don't have a jungle tileset then forest is fine. I haven't used VX Ace before so I'm not sure of it's limits)
Character tie-ins: Not sure but, if there is a character that would make sense to put in here then that's fine by me. Just make sure the character left the village before it was cursed or, returned to the village after it was cursed.
Districts: None
Notable features: The Wyrm Wizard cursed the village now every ones minds have swapped with the animals in the village. So the people act like animals and the animals can speak to you.
Description/other details: The area has exotic plants and the trees bare strange shaped fruits.
The houses are round clay homes that look like a beehives.
There are a lot of farm animals.
Most of the NPCs are unhappy to trade bodies with the animals but a couple of people enjoy the freedom of it all.
Many of the NPCs try to live life as a human despite their new appearance. So seeing a cow sleeping in a bed or sweeping the floor is possible here.
The animals who occupy the humans bodies try awkwardly to go on living as simple farm animals
The village elder is a chubby mouse who shuns the players away for fear that they to will be transformed but if you give him cheese he'll tell you how to lift the curse.
The elder believes that if you were to bring back the statue of the village founder, Osae Utu, the villagers will be healed. The statue of Osae Utu is guarded by a boss (it doesn't have to be a boss I create it could be anyone's boss) when you bring the statue back to the village the elder rewards you with really good equipment.
I'm not sure if the statue should heal the village as soon as you give them the statue or if the healing process should be gradual and you only see the result at the end of the game.
One of the NPCs in the village is a germaphobe. He was turned into a pig and now he can't resist the urge to roll around in mud.
Another NPC is a brave warrior who was turned into a chicken.
There's also this hyperactive kid who always whined and complained when he didn't get his way. He was turned into a turtle but, unlike the pig and chicken, he accepted his transformation and has grown to be more laid back and less whiny. He's become a really nice kid ever since he became a turtle.
