As of right now, my record is almost two days straight: This was back in high-school when I had a hands-on project to do that involved wiring a board of light bulbs with copper wiring, and my partner pretty much ditched me to do the whole thing.

But tonight I have a paper due Monday and a program assignment past due that I'm trying to get done quickly for partial credit. I'll be at work from 9:00 AM to 1:00 AM today so I'm basically working on an extremely tight clock. I might break my record and go over 48 hours!

What's the longest you've gone without sleeping?

I consider myself lucky never to have been in a situation where I had to be awake for more than 24 hours.
I think my longest is probably around 40 hours. Pulling an all-nighter and then going to bed the next evening. Though I've had longer spells (no more than four days though) where I've had very little sleep. There was a weekend I worked nights and then on the day I was volunteering at a medieval fair thingie. So I had maybe an hour or so of sleep between getting home from work and doing the thing. And then in the evening there was a barbecue so I didn't go home that evening instead went more or less straight from the fair to the next night of work and then the next day was the second day of medieval fair. But between all these things I did nap for about an hour so it's not like I was without sleep. (and during my night work I also remember taking a fifteen minute powernap so I wouldn't fall asleep at the wheel (I was driving))

I know this isn't EXTREEM waking. But I like to sleep and if I am forced to stay up a lot I try to rest whenever I can. Like in the army when we did night marches and were waiting around for transport I remember sleeping on some camouflage nets. And obviously that transport truck lulled anyone to sleep no matter what time of day it was driving.
About 25 hours with not enough meals in the stomach.

I had this severe procrastination phase during grad school. There was this course about how to conduct an interview/patient evaluation process. I had recorded my project on tape and had to type the complete verbatim and then analyze the interview. After a day of work and classes I remained in the computer lab from 17:00 PM to 8:00 AM to finish it, print it and put it in my teacher's pigeonhole, a few hours before the deadline.

That was the last time I ever procrastinated.
50 hours.

My eyes were fuckin' killing me by the end. God.
When I was younger, I managed nearly 72 hours trying to get work done on deadline.

Now, I'm lucky if I can manage 24 without being passed out in my chair.
Just a couple of weeks ago a friend of mine wanted my help on a (work) trip to Germany. I thought I could sleep on the bus down so I didn't sleep that night because... well I dunno why, now that I think about it. Because I could, and wasting time doing nothing on the bus seemed boring.
So I turned up, and apparently there was work to be done on the bus, too, so I couldn't sleep there either. All in all, I believe I went without sleep for around 50 hours.

A 60hour shift between two jobs, I mean I had like an hour or two between my jobs but I was having to do overtime on both so I just stayed up until it was over and thankfully had a day off to just sleep. Kinda glad I don't have those crazy hours anymore but boy did I get some great work ethic out of all that. I honestly don't get how some people just show up late and make excuses for days off at least once a week yet still keep a job and complain about there work schedule!?

My normal hours though were like 16-17 hour days, one night shift job and a day job. I'd start my day job at 8-9am finish around 6-7 then go to work at nights around 10-12pm and finish at 7:30am.

That's longest I've needed to stay awake, casually I used to be homeless when I was 18 doing quite a few drugs and just hanging out with the wrong people, used to stay awake days at a time just bumming it basically with friends. One thing I got out of it was I can basically sleep anywhere now :\ silver lining I guess.

Why is this in the welp forum?

I thought about putting it in General, but I saw "What's Your Most Embrassing Moment" and figured that this was along those same lines of conversation.

If people feel it belongs there, by all means move it.
This is exactly the kind of thing that the moronic forum was created for. (It isn't only for incredibly stupid shit. Just incredibly useless shit)
Probably around 85 hour-ish, cuz military can be a bitch.
Towards the end of the mandatory military service, we had to go through the dreadful Hell Week, which basically meant doing rough outdoor military exercises for around a week with no food or sleep ( with the "week bit" luckily being cut down to 3 and a half day.. roughly.

One time event though, and never been close to that since, thankfully.

It's times like these I am glad we don't have mandatory military service in the Netherlands anymore...
One time out to sea I had to work for three days straight. Like, three days, STRAIGHT.

Rough life, bro.
Needed to, or chosen to?

The longest I've stayed up out of necessity was two days. The longest I've stayed up out of "let's see how long I can go without sleep" back in college was over 120 hours. The nights were pretty bad, but my I got an A paper done during and kept participating in class and my professors never noticed the difference.

I felt like I could have managed at least a couple more days, but I came down with a cold, so I cut it short.
The longest I managed to do was 72 hours... Playing
Actually not playing but I'd play instead of sleeping
Now if I can only remember what... I think I was 11 or 12
It was definitely a PSX RPG, but I can't remember what.

And whoa guys, you sure got some tough stories there huh :o
I went 52 hours once, just to see if I could do it. I nearly went insane; started seeing things, forgetting things. After awhile, you find yourself floating in a cloud. You could be talking to somebody next to you, but it's like they're not even there.

Never again. Once in awhile I might do around 40 hours if I get caught up in a game or project and don't want to sleep, but that's about the limit I can reach before, and I only do it once in a great while.
I haven't done anything to compare with some of the 3+ day stories here, but I do pull 30+ hour stints several times a year.

I would have more makerscore If I did things.

12 hours is the longest I've had to stay up.

I once stayed up for 20 hours though. What I needed to do I know not, but it must of been something because I'd never stay up that long.
So wait, that means you sleep 12 hours a day?

It might mean he has a completely different sleep schedule. Like 5 hours of sleep 12 hours up or something like that.
