We can't give links but there are some RM sites that have it. I recommend checking there. That said, installer is in another language, just install the default settings and see if that works~

@KA, not always true :)
I just downloaded two 2000 games and when I tried to open it got a message about rtp but it looked like part of the message was in French :) first time I ever saw that....I think.
Guess I will have to look around some more for the rtp :(

OH and what happened to the rmn REVOLUTION site ??
Looks like the site has been closed :(
It can depend on what language the engine was. There's bound to be a German, French, Brazillian, Spanish, Japanese and Chinese version for the engine out there so if a game was made in French originally, it might require the French version of the RTP.

Providing links to the RTP shouldn't be an issue since Enterbrain themselves make the RTP freely available for download. I highly doubt simple renaming of the RTP files would be cause for a lawsuit.

As for the RTP itself, well, at this point I'm not even sure what version of RM2K you downloaded, or what RM2K games you've downloaded, or whether you are even understanding (no offense meant) what you are getting yourself into.
I never said different languages was a cause for lawsuit, but that it might be the issue he's running in to - that they might have different names to the English ones, thus looking for another language version of the RTP might fix it.

I did say it was a site rule not to post links and why and that still stands.

ah man, you guys (sorry Liberty :), are killing me.

I'm an elderly person :) and really not sure what all the tech language means.
As an example: When I unzip a download, I see many files but have no idea what they mean. I know enough to right click on the exe file to start the game using my ADMIN. and then right click on the exe file to send an icon to my desktop but that's about it. When the developer starts giving info on what files need to be placed at such and such a location......I delete the game and look for another game :( haha

Guess it's off to GOOGLE for another rmk2 version :)

Thanks for trying to help me :(

Oh, I've downloaded about 15 games for rmk2. A few work but I get errors on most so will keep trying :)
Looks like the sun might be coming out so it could be a pool day... :)

Well I'm at it again :)

Downloaded a few new files trying to get rmk2 to work.

Then I downloaded ROMANCING WALKER. Cranked it up and get the following error:

DirectDraw Error (DDERR_unsupported)

Anyone know what that means??

Thank you for assisting me in my time of need :)
Odd. RW should work fine as long as the RTP is installed so... Hm...

Have you tried to go into the compatibility of the game (right-mouse click, Properties, Compatibility) and pick an earlier version of Windows to try running it in (XP or 2000 are both good for this old a game - and other 2k/3 games)? That might help.

If it doesn't then Cherry's post in this thread might help fix the issue. Because the game is quite old enough some new computers won't like running it in full screen.

The game devs telling you about files put in x or y location isn't a big deal, actually. It may be that a graphic or sound file is missing, so they want you to check/paste the file in that location. If I were you I'd create a new folder on your desktop and place every RM game you download in there. Windows should allow them to be extracted in there from their zip files automatically and then you'll know where the folders for the game is located. This way you can have easy access to those folders for pasting resources in at any time.

The RTP files are generally found in a specific folder (usually C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Enterbrain - that's on Windows 7 but Windows 8 shouldn't be too different). That means that any time a file is missing from the folder and the creator says to just add the RTP, go to that specific folder, copy all the folders in the engine type (rpg2000, rpg2003, RGSS (XP), RGSS2 (VX) or RGSS3 (ACE) - the folders should be named things like "Faces" or "System" or "Music" (Note that VX and Ace have separate folders for sound and graphics files) - and then paste them in the original game's folder (the one where you unzipped the game). A pop-up should ask to copy and just say yes. Then you can report back to them if it doesn't work and they can move on to another step instead.

Hope that's not too hard to understand.
I have figured it out on how to run the rpg maker rtp 2000 to work for windows 8.1.....I have tried booksher's method and it works....All you need to do is right click the game that requires the rpg maker rtp 2000 in the fold itself it is labeled as RPG_RT......right click that and go to compatibility and set it for windows 8 and it works for windows 8 and 8.1.....I have tested it and it works and you don't have to alter registration to your computer.
My computer was updated against my will (when I say, "my computer", I mean, "my dad's") so I bought Ace rather than download rm2k3 again. Also my father won't let me change any settings on the computer in case something happens that neither of us can reverse because we're both superstitious morons. (Which begs the question: why the hell am I designing games...?)

But some of these suggestions are encouraging, as there are still tonnes of rm2k3 games I want to play.

Well, I know think there is another method to solve the problem of RMK2000 games not working.

I had a problem a few months ago and had to call Dell support. While he was working on my problem, I asked him about the RMK2 games not working.
He fiddled with it for over an hour and finally fixed it.
Turns out, it was the DirectX program. My new computer had the most updated version and what the games needed to play was a file from an OLDER version of DirectX.
I believe it was a version several years old.

I now play all the RMK2 games I want....ain't I the lucky one? :)
