Am I the only one that thinks that being 'smart' doesn't really mean all that much? I mean, people place such a high premium on intelligence, and if you ask me, intelligence by itself doesn't mean shit and isn't really all that impressive.
I don't know I think that this is something stupid people tell themselves to feel better. People who are, naturally, not welcome on my ivory tower.
I really do think that intelligence is something that can be acquired, seeing as how most people have the ability to learn. Having that natural curiosity that compells someone to enjoy learning isn't something that is as common, however.

Well, I don't know, ever since I've got to college, I've met tons of people who've prided themselves on being very smart, and a lot of these same people are some of the grimiest, dishonest, hedonistic, meanest, and rudest people I've ever met.
I mean, maybe it's just my perspective and my background; I'm the first one in my family to go to college, but my family also put a high premium on things like kindness, honesty, integrity, and helping your fellow man; things that I think are much impressive than intelligence by itself.
Keep in mind that I said intelligence by itself, though. Intelligence is one of the most important virtues that you can have, but if that's all you've got and the rest of you sucks, then well, it doesn't mean that much.
When you say you're smart, it doesn't actually mean anything unless you include what you're smart at. People who are generally labeled "smart", usually means that they've demonstrated adaptability to their school's regime and can regurgitate the information provided to them when necessary. Those same people might not necessarily be "street-smart", or would be a loss at what to do at a dance club (and therefore, not be very smart about their conduct there!)
Well, that isn't really what I meant, but sure, that applies, especially when you're from where I'm from.
Can you clarify what you mean? Chances are, the people that told you they're intelligent, are probably saying so in reference to something they know. Yes, they may be smart about certain things, but they're probably pretty stupid about other things. And argueably, anything living can be considering intelligent to a certain degree. So where exactly do you draw a reference line, and consider those above that line "smart" and those below, "not smart"?
Values like kindness and honesty could be considered examples of moral and emotional intelligence. Perhaps instead of being kind, you can claim to be emotionally intelligent 8).

Ugh don't tell me ya'll buy the multiple intelligence theory: "We're all the same amount of smarts, it's just a different kind of smarts!"
We're not all the same amount of smarts. But yes, other virtues tend to be more useful, such as the ability to follow through on what smarts you have.

I'd say there are most certainly different kinds of smarts, but I'd also say that no, we're not all the same amount of smarts, either.
Charisma would be an incredible virtue to have. The things I would be able to get in a social sense would be astounding... And I'd probably milk it for every little thing I could, so maybe it's not THAT bad, heh.

I have an IQ of 152.
That is because you are white and live in North America.
Lately I have been thinking a lot more about what makes people seem "smart", and I think that lucidity and sound judgement play a big role. Bookish people can be amongst the worst of us. But then again you don't need to be a rocket scientist to be self-aware and not make bad choices all the time...

Intelligence 15 (+3)
Wisdom 10 (+1)

I consider myself a Paladin because I'm a goody-two-shoes who really does try to be nice (most of the time; ask harmonic for me being a bastard which I can be). I simply can't say cunt, bitch, fuck, shit. I usually say "Oh, POOP!" instead. As for the warlock multiclass, I find that I'm not easily corruptible but I do like to push the limits (I'm endlessly curious/an instigator). I suppose I wish that I was less curious? Others could probably handle me not running little social experiments on them.
SUMMARY: I'm a sweet and caring rose despite what I may come off as (best intentions, etc.) but I wish I could lose my poking-into-everything thorn!
I hate analogies.
EDIT: Oh, one virtue that I really enjoy is that I'm ridiculously tenacious. I can do anything and withstand the pressure (literally or figuratively) for long amounts of time. This is probably because I'm a stereotypical withdrawn/internalizing male.

Mine most cherished ability is mine... well... verily mine ability. I hath been gifted with skill in a great variety of applications, talents, and other such things. In short, I'm halfway to omnipotence, making me a jack of all. Now if only I could find the other 50% (It's gotta be in here somewhere...)
I just want to let you know, as someone who's been working out and lifting weights for almost five years, that working up to doing one hundred push ups in itself is a very, very bad idea.

Hey, so do i but my IQ is only about 120. It keeps getting lower. :'(
HA! IQ of 214 when I was five! Of course, IQ is just your physical age over your mental age times a hundred (basically a percent) so that gave me the mind of an eleven year old back then. And that gives Kentona approximately the mind of a 50yo. And no, that doesn't make you as badass as Anthony Hopkins, by any standards.
