NO IDEA HOW TO MAKE AN EVENT...

So I got my cold open scene set up, but I have no idea how to use the event editor.

The basic script for this cold open:

Pikachu calls for Ash twice (I'm using his pre-X/Y cry for his "voice")

Ash arrives and assures Pikachu he would not miss an episode of "The Song Mage Chronicles" (the show the player is controlling) for the world.

Knock at the door

Ash: Come in?

Misty, Brock, and Dawn arrive.

The gang has a little banter

Pikachu notices the show is about to start

The gang gathers around the TV, and we finally see the game's title

That is a pretty unspecific question. It would help if you could add some screenshots or describe what the screen is supposed to look like the moment the opening scene starts, and what it should look like at the end of the scene.

Other than that, if you're having trouble with the event commands, try making a separate test project to experiment a bit, and read some tutorials on eventing. Experience is the key.
Okay, thank you--I'll see if I can find some YouTube tutorials or something

What developer are you using? The scene you're describing is pretty straight forward, but we at least need to know which editor you're working with.
Sounds like you're very new to the engine. What I'd recommend is creating a new project (not one you'll be using for a real game) and just messing about with each and every bit of the program to see what things do and figuring out how you can use them. Also, tutorials - even older ones from 2k/3 will work since a lot of the eventing side of the engines are alike.
To create an event, double-click on a square of the map. If you don't see any squares, change to the event layer. It should be a button near the top of the screen, next to buttons called "Lower Layer" and "Upper Layer". By hovering your mouse cursor over the different buttons at the top, their names pop up.
After a little tinkering I got something to work--now to iron out the kinks

A good place to start is make a small map with one house and one npc.
Start by trying to figure out how to go up to the npc and have him say
some text. Then you can build the inside of the house and make a transfer
event. Talking to npcs and transfer events are two of the more basic events that
you'll likely use a lot. This will also terach the difference between using the action button to trigger an event vs. to the player touching the event.
I may try that to get the hang of everything.
