Got any Dexreth amulets?

I only use XP. Not because it's necessarily better than other makers, but more because it's the only one I own and I've gotten used to it. I do think the graphical style of the XP tilesets and characters is much better than the blocky VX Ace graphics or the pixelated 2k style. And XP's mapping really is good. But let's face it: VX Ace is superior in terms of functionality, and it's way more user-friendly. XP doesn't even support facesets by default. I mean, seriously?
My main reason (apart from money) for not switching to a newer maker is probably that after using XP for about seven years now, I've finally got somewhat of a feeling for how the program works, and I don't really feel like learning the characteristics of a new maker now. Guess I'll stick with XP 'till the end.

I've gotten used to doing stuff in VX Ace, so I probably have to go with that. Until the next generation of RPG Maker comes around, at any rate. Not that I haven't used Ace's predecessors to some degree. Not to mention a period of time where I was messing with stuff like Forgotten Realms Unlimited Adventures, a bit of Sphere, a bit of Toolkit (I think it might have been an earlier version as one as listed on the engines page? It was a terribly long time ago, so I'm not really sure.), and maybe some other things I'm totally forgetting.

Currently: XP for the great mapping, and VX Ace for everything else.

RMVX Ace, because alot of people can't play RM XP anymore, otherwise I would still be using it.

As someone with an XP project years in the making, this has me worried. How widespread is this?
@unity
I can't really give exact numbers, but it's enough that I got a lot of messages whining about problems with opening the game with Miserere, something like 10-20 of them. And that's just the people that actually messaged me, 9/10 players probably won't even bother sending a message and just go on to another game.
VX Ace. Best script support these days, freakish amount of options and it can emulate 2k/2k3 resolution very easily. I won't even look at 2k, 2k3, or XP these days.

Wow. Thanks for the head's up. I'm way too far along to restart the project in another maker, but still, that's definitely a problem.

Sim RPG Maker 95.
I'm probably the only still using it after the short "what's this? I'll try it" phase.

I'd surely try something more serious in it! I actually started -- but I simply couldn't learn how to use the engine no matter how hard I tried ):
It's... Dumb! Especially considering there's absolutely no support anywhere and absolutely no one even knows how to open the engine, much less has written tutorials xD

Except you. You seem to understand about it. Hah.

And I can't pick an engine... All I'm sure is that I never used 95' and that I have VX. Except from that, not much can Besaid xD

Definetly, VX Ace. It's a very easy engine to use despite his complexity and it has so many scripts! That's just cool.
LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

FWIW you can solve this for 90% or more of the problem users by creating an installer for your game instead of just sticking it in a zip file. The installer will put the .dll files in the user's system32 folder, which is the most common cause of people being unable to run the game.

If your game uses a font that doesn't come with all versions of Windows, I highly recommend creating your own installer with something like Inno Setup instead of using RMXP's built-in way of making an installer. That way you can automatically copy your font to the user's Fonts folder. VX's and Ace's built-in installers can handle fonts perfectly fine on their own, but RMXP's can't.

If you're just morally opposed to installers for whatever reason though, the game still runs on most computers without it, as long as the .dll file is in the game folder. I know some people cannot install software to their computers because they're using public computers, so my solution is to have both .zip and .exe versions available for download.

This problem is also not specific to RMXP, by the way. VX and Ace do the same thing.
XP will also trip DEP but I imagine that isn't an issue most people experience since the default DEP setting is 'token effort'.

Same here. Ye olde XP.

I don't have a growth mindset...yet.

VX Ace...because regions changed everything.
I have a soft spot for 2k3 which has a certain charm to it, but I can't deny that Ace is the best RM yet, and it's the one I'm working with right now.

The perfect RM in my mind would be XP style RTP and mapping combined with Ace's interface and functions.

I typically use either XP or Ace, depending one what scripts are avaialable that would best suit the needs for the game I want to make.

I freakin' despise RM2k, maybe because I started out with XP then I got into it, but it feels more cumbersome to use by comparison, and the self-switches present in the later engines have spoiled me.

I started with RM2k3 when I was about 11 or 12, and then I tried out 2k and SimRPG95. I actually kind of liked 2k for the the front-view battle system since it meant not having to make character battle sprites. I then went to XP, but never got anywhere with it because it felt very limited and I didn't like the graphical style. I tried the VX demo, but it wasn't really that great to me. Then they released VXAce and I bought it the week before it went on sale for 70% off. I messed with Game Maker when I was still in school for programming & web/game design, and ended up getting the full version for free. In the end, I still prefer VXAce for the battle formula flexibility and the scripting, as well as the character maker.

Yeah, I kind of have a monopoly on Sim RPG Maker 95 knowledge in the english speaking world.
At least this will make my game into THE SRPG95 game! (winner by default)

Even newspapers have those nowadays.

2k3/XP/Ace and hopefully in future Open RPG Maker when engine for it will be released (from what I talked with Tuxinator, dev behind OpenRM, it should be around 2-4 weeks from now).

Would you mind to write tutorials about it. (not a question)
Ace, usually, though I dabble with XP and 2003 when I'm in the mood.
