FOUR STARS...FOR WHAT ??
Posts
Sounds like a good compromise to me. This way the actual rating of a game is based on informed reviews, but people who don't want to leave a review can at least leave their impression and still have to justify it minimally.
Just some thoughts:=
- Would these have to be checked by submissions staff or auto-accepted?
- If auto-accepted, would a report button be added in case someone just puts something like "Nice" in each field?
Archiving Demo reviews would actually be a good idea. Perhaps it would save time if they were automatically 'archived' when added to a game that isn't tagged as completed. Would code be able to only allow star ratings if the game is marked as completed and remove stars altogether if the game isn't marked as complete? That would probably help with reviews that have already been passed through the system.
The listing of all playlists... where would that fit on the page? A drop-down box might be a good idea (and save space) with a link to each playlist when chosen and the arrow next to it clicked on. Something like
.1 increments would be a good idea, but would the graphic of stars be edited to reflect or rounded up/down instead?

LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

Kentona, you're too good at this.

I wondered the same thing. It could save effort having to do this manually. That way the review still stands, but doesn't effect the score, and they don't have to be manually archived later on.
Kentona, Liberty, again thanks for all your efforts in this. I personally think that more was accomplished these past couple days once egos (my own included) were set aside, and this method will hopefully end the dispute of reviews versus popularity once and for all.

Is it possible to make anything at .5 or above rounded up, and below .5 rounded down?
Can't believe kentona hijacked my argument thread with one post and stopped the shouting match :(
Good. Not sure I could write an intelligent review but would like the developer to know what I liked or what I thought might be improved a little bit.
Thank you kentona for saying exactly what I've been trying to say all along :) hahahahaha

That's why Kentona's the boss man. To be honest, I'm not so sure it was a shouting match: a heated debate with its ups and downs, sure. I also like the idea of a report button.
Perhaps the system could work like Ebay and Amazon's system: you download the game and then you get a notice asking if you'd like to leave feedback. That might be a good way of weeding out trolls.

OH NO, heavens to murgetroyed, look at that....kentona is acquiring a fan club:)
Glad to see we may have a resolution so Liberty can get back to work on her games.....SO WE CAN ALL HIT THAT THAR BUTTON :)

I like the new idea. Hopefully, things will calm down on this thread now. And yeah, those options are waaay better than those 'like' buttons, since they at least have reasonings behind them now. =)
...it's not like we were all fighting or anything. Didn't realise spirited debate was synonymous with killing each other... :/
...The story of my life.
Yeah, this new system looks nice. I have no complains (yet xD). The only thing I'd change is: since the areas dedicated to gameplay, writing, atmosphere?, don't require an answer. Why not require to at least put a number from 1 to 5 in the comment box, as if rating each department? Like I said before, this could be used to further police the situation; and perhaps we could even use those numbers to search games through those criteria: best gameplay, best writing, best music, etc.

Some games they wouldn't apply, and being forced to rate a 1 or 5 would either hurt or hinder the score from what it is.
Puzzle games for example would be more focused on game play and not story or atmosphere, so requring a score in those areas wouldn't make sense and could be left as not applicable.
I'm sure one they get things set up, there will be room for tweaks and adjustments as needed. I'm just happy for the compromise, and hopefully it will get a chance for lesser known games to get some attention.

nah Liberty, no real fighting, but I'm sure some of the heated discussions sure made your eyes wiggle :)

Why not just write "It's good." in the text field?
I think he explained that he wants some effort put in, even if it's just a bit. Look it's obvious you don't like the idea of actually putting some effort in, but frankly, 20+ words won't kill you. At least give the creator a little more than a generic "It's good." If you liked the game you should be able to find something to say beyond such a cover-all statement.

Not... really?
Well, the idea is for the fields that don't require an answer. (You'll still have to fill the ones that do require one) So if you want to just put an: "It's good" I guess you could do that. But if you also want to give an score to each of the game's department, this could be useful to justify your overall score; and so the game appears in search results by the criteria mentioned above.
Edit: Here's a mockup of how I think the form could/should look like at the end. (Link)
