Maybe the prayers of disgruntled SMBX users have been answered? To a degree? The fact that Nintendo is releasing their own Mario level maker seems pretty awesome, in my point of view. I hope it doesn't get canceled or anything, because this looks promising so far.
Thoughts?

Nintendo debuted Mario Maker at its E3 special digital event, which allows you to build your own courses for the famous plumber to navigate. You can build the courses on your Wii U, and paint using tiles and objects you’ll remember if you’ve played the series at all, including bricks, enemies and pipes, and you can render them in either 8-bit or New Super Mario Bros. U-style 3D graphics.

While this does look interesting (and I'd definitely like to see a Mario level editor that doesn't involve ROM hacking or SMBX), right now it looks more like a toy than a viable game making tool (then again that may be exactly what they're going for).
My main concern right now is that apparently there are only two graphical styles available, one of which (8-bit SMB1) I think is rather ugly.

Yeah, it's probably going to lead towards that direction, but at least we more than likely wouldn't have the glitchiness and missing features of the editor with this. I hope we can finally use Starmans for something.
The other graphical style is the full 3D look of the newer ones. It looks cool, make your own Mario levels and share them with everyone.
They are totally going to enable Amiibo figurines into this, so that in the end you could play a mario level as, say, Samus. Calling it now.
I don't have any plans to get a Wii U, but this is geniunely great for anyone who has one. I mean, honestly, who has never wanted to make a Mario level? SMBX lets a lot of us play around with being able to do so, but seeing those 3D levels... oh man, it's hard to look at SMBX the same way.
Super Mario U and Super Luigi U were great games in my opinion including
the bonus levels. The new acorn power-up is cool addition.

When I first heard about this, it was promising to be the Nintendo LittleBigPlanet, but after watching the video, it looks more like SMBX lite. Just basic SMB1 gameplay, with nothing to it. Meanwhile LBP has gaggles of more features and multiple levels of field depth (I think even more in LBP3. I'm sad, because this could be so incredibly cool, and draw a huge fan base.
My only hope is that it will garner enough fan base that they'll make a more in depth sequel.

Well, be advised that it is in early to mid phase of development (good enough to show, but not yet ready for release). It can be still changed to be better.
I wonder if Kaizo stuff will be allowed...
