THE DARK KNIGHT

Posts

I am pleased to report I have tickets to see it in IMAX on Thursday.

I thought I wouldn't be able to see it for at least another week.
I saw it... and LOVED it. I don't think I've ever seen a batman like it. (This is probably because of the daytime scenes, a first for any batman in a while.) The movie was glorious, I give it a 9.5

For those who have seen it:
The disappearing pen trick was amazing!!! Haha
It was pretty good, and Ledger was a good Joker, but he didn't dethrone Mark Hamill's Joker or anything.

I know it all boils down to opinion but you have got to be kidding me.

EDIT: Okay, the Animated Series kicked ass, so I'll give you a tie at best.
The thing that it comes down to for me is that while Heath gave a great performance, it felt like someone was playing the Joker. With the one on the Animated Series, it felt like it was the Joker.

Maybe this comes down to an issue with the mediums (I am an admitted animation addict), or maybe it's just because for the last sixteen years or so, Mark Hamill has voiced the Joker in every credible thing where you can hear the Joker's voice, but that's the thing. Hamill's role is iconic for me, Ledger's role was just excellent.

Haha, I feel the exact opposite; but hey, I really respect your opinion because Mark Hamill's Joker was the shit.
Fine maybe I will go and see this stupid movie tonight.

Do eet, you know noone will leave it alone until you do.

Oh, btw, this movie broke the record for highest single-day and weekend box-office earnings.

Ledger was a complete show-stealer. I believe he'll get a post-humous oscar nod, as do many critics. Bale's role seemed to stand even outside of Aaron Eckhart's and Gary Oldman, who both received lots of quality screen time. This is the darkest PG-13 film I've ever seen, and really demonstrates what can be done with the power of good filmmaking instead of lots of blood and bullets. I love it!

This movie was an absolute gem. Everyone left the theater with a blank stare, a daze. When I saw that look on the faces of the people who saw it before me, I was scared that they were actually that deadpan after what is supposedly a summer blockbuster action movie. But they were not deadpan. They were psychologically shocked, and in ponderance of the message of the movie.

But it is NOT just a summer action movie. It's a brilliant psychological thriller that poses a few really significant moral questions of the time. Are human beings fundamentally good? Is it better to have orderly evil, or to be liberated from that orderly evil and replaced with chaos? In a way, the Joker played the manifestation of these big questions. His character was obviously insane and beyond repair, but some of his words rung more true than anything I've heard in a long while.

Brilliant. I will watch this several times. There is no way you can catch everything in the first watching.

SAD:
God, what a tremendous tragedy about Heath Ledger. I never would have guessed he was capable of such acting genius, being one of the stock pretty boy male movie stars of the time. I hope he gets posthumously awarded the damn nobel peace prize. What a show stealer, even among acting giants such as the dudes who played Gordon, Alfred, Lucius, and Batman.

I think this is taking it maybe a little bit way too far.

But yes I think that this is the best action film I have ever seen!

Way too far? So what if I wanted to find meaning in something? There are so many parallels to a couple things that are a big deal to our lives, such as the concept of preemptive war in iraq, and the fundamental nature of humans as depraved, primal beings. (old testament)
I haven't seen it yet. Tell me though, what is a better snack for watching this film in the theatre: gummi bears or chexmix?

Dude don't take so much offense. I just sort of disagree that there was anything truly profound about the movie beyond the same themes that just about every other good superhero story explores.

I don't know a bottle of water? Movie snacks are bad for you and make you fat. You shouldn't eat them!

"dun tak it persunally"

I didn't take any personal offense, I was just disappointed that thinking about things deeply is frowned upon.

It is only disappointing to think deeply about things that are are summer action movies. Read a book or something.
Yes, because books are inherently deeper than all movies all the time.

Well, maybe not the ones you read. =)

I just got back from watching this and I was disappointed. Not because it wasn't a great movie or anything, but you folks on the interwebs made this out to be the best movie in history. This will also sound crude, but I don't know what the buzz is about Heath Ledger deserving an Oscar for his role either other than it's OMG THE JOKER and also because he's dead. Other than few standout scenes I found his performance flat.

I think I liked Harvey Dent more.
I really liked the movie, but to some degree I suffered what Holbert described. Too much damn hype. I hate having expectations before I see something, I already have a bias. The movie was good. I don't know about anything past that.

Despite heavy objections, I still maintain that there were great concepts to think about in this movie. No need to get so damn snotty about a movie, people are different, and therefore have different opinions. These "LOL ITS JUST A MOOVIE" comments are totally unnecessary.

Or opinions about other people's opinions!
