So This is my first official town in RPG Maker VX Ace. I like where its going but I feel like it needs more. The style I'm going for is like a cross mix between western and...cyberpunk? Something along the lines of the video game Borderlands. This town is the beginning town of the game, and is where the main character lives. The town is suppose to be run down and far off away from the rest of the game world. And I said its a town but its really more of a small village. To the north of the town lies a mountain path and to the south a vast amount of desert. In the village there are mostly just houses, except for the workshop in the lower right corner. There's a well in the middle for the citizens water supply where I added some grass tiles around it because I figure water equals grass right?Whatever lol. Also, I put a fence around the village to protect them from dangerous creature that roam the desert wasteland. I haven't added NPC's yet which I will save for last.
I cant figure out what I should do to the village at this point. Will you please help me by posting suggestions of what I can add/change/do? Thank you!

This is pretty good! I might suggest making the grass around the well less symmetrical if that makes sense? Nature doesn't grow in a cross - it's pretty random on the whole. The idea of putting most of the grass around the well was pretty smart however! I'd think some grass patches here and there might look good? Even without a lot of water there will be some grass especially around the cacti of the area. Another idea might be adding some dried grass/dead grass in the town area as well as some more cacti so long as there aren't too many in the main town area - that'll probably look nice~ Your cliffs are very good! Since you seem to be good at them, you could always make a smaller cliff in the town rather than have it all bordering the town.
If all else fails you could add another building and/or reduce the size of the town so it feel fuller though it is a pretty good size now so filling it out would be best.
Oh oh, and next time you want to ask for critiquing on your map you should probably use the screenshot topic! Right here: http://rpgmaker.net/forums/topics/8095/?post=554362#post554362

Hi again!
In addition to what Gourd has already stated, I'd like to ask you this:
Why do they have chimneys for houses in a desert village? Chimneys == Fireplaces and Fireplaces == Cold Area, right? I'd understand the chimney on the workshop, as that's logical, but not on the rest of the houses.
Do you have a special reason for doing this?
In case you're sticking with them, I suggest you add some smoke rising from it (it's an event).
Here's how, just in case:
Hope I helped!

Here's how, just in case:
- Create an event, and name it something relevant, like 'dookie.'
- Check the 'Stepping Animation' box on the lower left, below the graphic
- Set the graphic to the smoke, found in 'others' I think
Hope I helped!
@karins Most deserts get pretty cold at night. I think the chimneys are fairly believable in this regard.
I already told you to please post further images in the screenshot thread. You can also post them on your game page and mark them for feedback. We reduce clutter in forums by having specific threads/areas for this kind of thing. Do that in the future.
I'm locking this and your other thread and if you make any more, those as well.
