TILE TRANSPARENCY & IMPORT ISSUES

Hello, all!

I have turned to the powers of Google and an experienced RPG Maker user with little answers. Also, before I forget, I use VX Ace and my problem is as the title suggests: transparency and import problems.

Google has suggested I make the background color of what I import be something other than black or white. This has resulted in either nothing happening or a (not so) lovely pink boarder surrounding the tiles I wish to incorporate into my game (magenta was the alternative color of choice).

Then there's an other issue that surfaces where sometimes, after importing, it doesn't even give me the transparency and translucent option.

Somehow I've had one import file get "transparented" just fine. I've made sure to follow the proper dimensions of what I'm putting the tiles into (resolution 16, 512 x 512 or 256 x 512).

So...I'm not quite sure what's going on. Basically I want to know why the tiles are doing this and what I could be doing wrong.

I hope the question and situation was presented clearly enough. If not, I'll be more than happy to elaborate further.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

If you use 32-bit graphics files, they have transparencies built into the image itself. Only 256-color images will let you pick one color to be the transparent color. 32-bit graphics will not only let you use any color you want but also let you have partially-transparent pixels, which is why they don't let you use the color-select transparency method.

As a side-effect, if you're using 32-bit graphics, you don't have to actually import the graphics files in RPG Maker, you can just stick them in the right subfolder in the game's project folder and they'll work fine. Since they already have the transparencies defined in the image file
That said, if you use a colour for the background that isn't flagged as transparent you will need to actually use the import tool, click on the colour you want transparent and import. Even 32-bit graphics will have that issue if you use a solid colour background instead of a transparent one. (I've had this issue a few times myself, but it's basically just me being silly and forgetting to 'flag' a colour as transparent.)

Of course, it helps a ton if the colour you are using for the background isn't actually a colour used in the spriting itself. Otherwise you get some pretty weird looking sprites...

32-bit graphics won't even let you pick a color to be transparent when you import them, Liberty.
Are you sure about that? I'm sure I've had issue with it before... /me checks again ;p

e:- you're right that it won't let you pick a colour, but you can still fuck up with having another colour acting as a background colour instead of the flagged one. In those cases you have to actually open the offending graphic in an image editing program and DELETE any colour that is supposed to be transparent. Straight out select and delete that motherfucker. Ice the fool.

Yeah, I just checked it out.
I tried direct import with one of Ayene's, actually. That has a black background too, despite it being a straight up save what she posted and drop into the game :(

Do you mind elaborating what you mean about the 32bit color thing, LockeZ? I think I know what you mean by it. When I had the pink-border, that may have been from when I used black again and that was a remnant I didn't see until importing.

(And thank you for your help with this as well, Liberty).

I can upload photos of what's going on if that'd make things easier.
