Hey guys

I was wondering who are your favourite writers of games, or authors, from RMN? Who do you think writes really good stories, regardless of how great/poor their gameplay is? I'm going to list a few of my personal favourites, with reasons why you should check them out, and then open the floor to others to suggest which people they really like to read too.

calunio
This guy's my favourite writer. He never fails to push the envelope when it comes to creating games that make you think. His subjects might not be popular with all (some games include merciless torture, sexual themes, and real-life homicide stories) but the skill and tact with which he writes is unparalleled. It's exactly this kind of border-pushing games that we need, and calunio does it with finesse. Apparently the next game he wants to make in Game Maker or Unity and he wants it to be some sort of political farming simulation. Where you do bribes and stuff. I reckon it'll be cool! If he can pull it off.

SnowOwl
Time after time, he barely fails. This guy can craft some really good tension with crafty dialogue and story that appeals to the horror genre. He has created quite a few classics in the genre, and not only because of the visually appealing nature of his graphics. The slow, fantastical elements reveal themselves with nice flow and pacing.

unity
Some really brisk, engaging, well-paced writing that is an underrated skill of unity's. Unity has a nice penchant for quick dialogue, that is both unassuming and nice to read. You should really check Luxaren Allure out.

Volrath
Writing half of the Solest team, this guy is a published author. He knows how to craft worlds. He touches on themes like depression and family sentimentality, and he's very competent at that.

catmitts
The games of catmitts are a mixed bag, but they're always interesting. Sometimes his comments are far more well-written than his stories. I have a few that I can think of that are some of the best comments I've ever read. Very eccentric.

Me-Patra
Hate her or not, she's pretty good at telling a story. She managed to create some interesting characters in Pom Gets Wi-Fi and I'm thoroughly looking forward to her next game called Pancake & Jam.

Can't really think of anyone else. So! I open the floor to you guys. Do me proud, OK? :)

Moga / CARRIONBLUE's games have a strange but wondeful vibe to them that I can resonate with pretty well. They're usually dark and a bit sad, with streaks of happiness appearing just occasionally.

I like Byah's and cattmits' stuff. Ultima187 wrote Story of Innocence really well from what I remember. Also I am a terrible heathen that doesn't even play RM games you guys.

Volrath
Cashmere mentioned him already. Volrath's writing literally changed my life. I'm not even exaggerating.

Deltree
Very intelligent writing with a lot more depth than you would expect at first glance. Even if I don't always agree with what he writes, his games (and articles) are masterpieces.

Indra
She writes in a more humorous but convincing way, often with serious themes lying underneath. I wish I were as funny as her.
unity
You're magical to me.

Thanks for your kind words, Cash! You've really made my day *^_______^*

My favorite writers are Housekeeping, Calunio, Red Nova, and SnowOwl. And also Sooz, but I'm a bit biased there as we're best friends XD

There are so many talented writers on this site! It's so inspiring ^_^
Not a RMNer but Will O' Neil is probably my favorite. Actual Sunlight has some of the best writing I've ever seen in a RPG Maker game. It at times feels more auto-biographical than fictional. Never have I seen a game maker more vulnerable in his text. It also helps that he's a professional writer and can communicate difficult subjects like depression and suicide with finesse. I'll definitely be playing anything he puts out in the future.

Calunio is probably my favorite writer on RMN. I've only played Suzy & Freedom but that was enough. One of the few RM games to have a gripping story even if it is non-fiction. He humanizes each character very well.

Of course there's also Volrath but I might be a bit bias.

In regards to reviews, Addit's my favorite author to read. His reviews seem to have the right mix of humor and factoids. Respect-wise, nhubi and Kylaila in regards to the review jam. Darigaaz, these two are machines!

In regards to game-makers, there is a bit more variability here. Two members of the dev-team behind Synthetic Oddessy (Sana, Clareain_Christopher) had other interesting projects, but, I've neither seen, nor heard, a peep from either of them for quite some time. Saying that, I'd be lying if I didn't say that I'm also a pretty huge fan of Luxaren Allure, and totally respect how unity seems to be handling Wyrm Warriors. Soul Sunder may not be the kind of game that I would normally play, but, I can see some pretty neat things coming from Red_Nova's corner as well.

*Edit:
Now that I think on it, in respect to Heartache 101 - Sour Into Sweet's custom content, I've been looking forward to seeing something from Dozen for, Dariggaz, I don't even know how long it's even been anymore. At least since he took the post of "Custom Content Overseer", which makes it... a while ago. To say the least.
Red_Nova
Sir Redd of Novus: He who made Prayer of the Faithless that one time, and that was pretty dang rad! :D

Anyway, I have a strange standard of writing. Dialogue and characters are one thing, but I feel like writing for games can encompass more than just text. For example, Okiku: Star Apprentice happens to be one of my favorite games on this site, despite it not being a major epic, because it does such a good job of putting me in the shoes of Okiku.

I also loved Housekeeping's The Heart Pumps Clay for the exact same reason. Games like those stick with me way more than a bunch of well-written characters that I just watch. So I started to make my way through more games by them.

But the topic was about writing on it's own, yes? Then everyone I wanted to mentioned has been mentioned already, but I suppose I'll add in my two cents. For redundancy's sake:

unity should get a shout-out. I love how she's handling Luxaren Allure's story, and how the subject matter is handled tastefully.

Accha definitely deserves special mention for Dreaming Mary for the same reasons as Luxaren Allure.

Also, yay! I got props from unity and Marrend! Perhaps I'm doing something right after all..

I wish I played more games on this site so I could actually give proper credit where it's due. But I'll say Indra is one of my favorites as well. Absolutely nails what good RPG dialogue should be IMO. Gold standard.
Well I don't know if I've really played enough games on this site to comment but I think the storyline in this game was really well done.
Remnants of Isolation

The game was worked on by Red_Nova, Unity, and Sooz. I'm pretty sure Red_Nova was the writer but I'm sure the other two added there ideas to the story as well. The game was a group effort so I might as well credit the whole group.

It's about people born with magic powers who must struggle against discrimination and fight for their freedom.
My favorite is Dark Gaia! The One Night series is great (Even though I'm to much of a scaredy cat to play horror game reqularly) and Legionwood 2 is possible my favorite RPG maker game of all time! I just wish he focused of the characters more.

I don't play games, so I have no idea!

Why are you on a game making site then?
He makes games instead. Making != Playing.

I'm a pretty big fan of Indrah (and Fomar). Their Arum games are amazing. Just the right amount of humor, worldbuilding and character development. :)

I haven't played that many other games on this site yet. And of the ones I have played, I haven't found any new favourites.

I'm with kenton and Link. XD But Addit is one of my favourite reviewers and article writers. XD
