OK, SO WHAT THE HECK IS #SHUMP?
Posts
I think FT3 came out just after the issues we had with Block Land. IIRC (and I'm not sure I do) we had Block Land, Megaman GX and another game come through and cause issues. Then a few months later we had FT3 and then a little after that the event with Future Helper and Heir of the King (or vice versa, timeline-wise). I maybe be wrong but I think that all happened within 6 months?
My memory is pretty bad though, so yeah. I do know that FT3 wasn't during the #shmupcuation, though.

Sounds like there was alot of high tension, I just happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time by the looks of it. >_>
I think that's when I thought RMN had this elitist thing going on when I started to be more active than I had been, after that happened, I left RMN for a good while because of it, but came back sometime later..and well proven I was wrong on that assumption. Just alot of crazyness I guess.
That clears alot up for me now it makes more sense what happened from that time.
EDIT:
Looking through my post history, and I recognize some faces that I had a tussle with with, but are good with now. My, how much we all change through the years.

yeah this forum's history wasn't an elaborate RPG timeline. it was just some nerds on a site arguing about wannabe SNES roms.
i felt like i was mostly on the sidelines but rmn's engagements have taught me a bit about the struggles of fostering quality beyond just a place to dump stuff on. sucks that it takes forever to make an rpg though. it's not hard to see why shining examples and immediate solutions are difficult to get across. this can be frustrating for everyone.
1 year later we will still get that kid making a shmup topic like they're sitting on grampas lap asking about the war of the magi

Wow, looking at this thread makes me realize just how long I've been around here. I was active when the shmup members were around and posting frequently. An extreme noob in all forms of the field, but active and gam-mak'ing nevertheless.
I kind of miss that activity? IDK it feels like RMN's slowed down content and discussion wise since shmup times. I certainly don't miss the drama (though Heir of King was an amusing moment) but I guess I get what tardis is saying about pushing for improvement artistically? I'm kinda trying to get more active in the critique side of things to actually get that kind of thing started but yeah. Older RMN's activity + critique cycle and current RMN's functionality and events would be incredible, but most people aren't all that vocal, especially in comparison to that time. I feel like the number of very vocal, active creators has dramatically decreased.
I kinda miss IRC, too, but the last time I ventured in there, there was whirlygigs and tumbleweed.

I agree. About everything. Well, except IRC. It's not my thing.
I feel that RMN has gotten a little too social. There aren't nearly as many good game design topics active(probably because we discussed them all?). It's mostly statuses and forum games and polls and talking about everything other than game design.
But I guess that's a good thing because I really should be working on my game, not chatting u.u
There seems to be more RTP games vs custom resources/edits, too. Probably because Ace is on sale every other week.
I'm on IRC a lot nowadays and it's usually filled with long periods of silence pockmarked by random but intense bits of discussion about game design or games or games culture.
I could go for some more intense forum debates about game design. There's been a couple good topics recently and they've been polite for the most part, which is good! But there hasn't been as much conflict or argument as there was a few years ago, either... and a part of me still enjoys drama more than it should.

Not here, and here is where I want to buy it from so I can help out the site.

It's ok, RMN still runs on the DramaCore™ Engine.
If you want to help the site just make a direct donation. 5$ or something you can afford. You'll get 1000 MS and the ability to create your own user title. Then you can go buy Ace on sale. Win/win.
Yes doesn't a donation actually get you a lifetime discount in the store? I can't remember, it was so long ago that Kentona did the last server drive.
Pretty sure Piano's would be something like 'tm doesn't stand for trademark.'

Nope, found the donate button, cleverly hidden in the bottom site map - damn you Kentona and your logical placement, and I quote..
"Besides the satisfaction of knowing that you are contributing to the continued existence of this fine website, you will also receive a Donator status, ad-free browsing on RMN, extra lockerspace, and the RMN Community Chest achievement (worth 1000 makerscore). But to get these you have to PM kentona after the transaction goes through, so that he knows to apply the benefits to your RMN account."
So no discount, 69.99 seems to the RRP.
edit: Actually tracking down the server request thread, which was so hard to find, pinned at the top as it was, these are the benefits
"But what do I get out of this?"
So the discount may still be in the works

"But what do I get out of this?"
- The satisfaction of helping keep rpgmaker.net alive for all users
- An achievement for helping to save rpgmaker.net (1000 makerscore!)
- Expanded locker space
- Ability to edit custom user titles
- Google ads will be removed from view
- Permanent discount at the RMN Store for Affiliate program items (coming soon!)
- A date with kentona*
- Other (open to suggestions)
So the discount may still be in the works

RMN has a store?
The, uh, RMN store discounts are probably in the works for a certain something. So, until that happens it's probably not on the cards yet. Eventually, though.
For now, just know that purchasing from the store will help RMN. If you want to/can pay the full price we'd more than welcoming you doing so, but we also have other items in the store which help and cost a lot less. (Resource packs, for instance.)
Most of them are pretty neat so I recommend picking them up here if anywhere, since they tend to be the same price all over (bar the odd sale here and there).
I can tell you that the RPG Maker 3 music pack is pretty neat (it's the RTP music from one of the console RMs), the futuristic pack is great (and oh so shiny~)... fuck it, all the packs there are quality ones.
Also, if you check out the RMW ReStaff you'll find additional stuff for packs like DS/DS+, futuristic and modern packs, as well as a lot of great music and RTP additions (I've been adding my own resources from ReStaff to our resource section so that people can grab and use them. Mainly RTP edits.)

I've been pushing for them and will continue to do so.
If the RMN logo patchquilt gets done maybe we could have that on posters and shit too. Oh man, just imagine RM game posters to hang on your walls. Ara Fell, Sunset over Imdahl, Heroes Realm, Befuddle Quest (must be hokey and poke fun at real movie posters for each of the sequels)...
And coasters! Cards! FUCK! RMN GAME COLLECTABLE CARD SERIES! BUY PACKS AND COLLECT THEM ALL!
"Wanna swap my Heroes Realm card for your shiny Ill Will card? I'll throw in my rare Alter AILA card!"
Things I never realised I wanted...

I kinda wanna design RMN posters for the best fake inspirational quotes...
