The original Spirit Engine, for anyone who remembers, was a freeware game released back in 2003 or so. It was a fun RPG with custom graphics, good music and interesting gameplay that combined platforming with a system similar to Final Fantasy XII's gambit system.
Now, the Spirit Engine 2 has been released.

It isn't freeware anymore, but it does feature a number of improvements over the original, including a more convenient and customizable battle interface, better graphics and improved dialogue--keep in mind that the dialogue in the original Spirit Engine was pretty good already. Like the first game, the Spirit Engine 2 allows you to chose a party from three sets of three characters, but the characters are much better integrated into the gameplay this time around.
The whole package is 18 dollars, which is a bit steep, but there is a demo that covers two of the total eight chapters. So, has anybody heard of this?

I played the first one and it was pretty fun. I'll check out the demo if I have time, but it looks like a solid game.
Wow, I was actually wondering what the name of this game was a couple days back. I had played the first a couple years ago and wanted to get my hands on it again.
But yeah, the new one looks pretty rad. I'm really digging the use of pastels in the graphics. Yum. The battle screenshots seem to look a smidge crowded, though, if that makes any sense.
Shame I don't have twenty dollars laying around. :\
