I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

Oh.. this is where this thread went.

Whelp, if you're still lurking, don't give up quite yet. I can't even do something as simple as PONG :p

>Now I'm praying I don't screw up with UE4

As far as writing, I'm sure you could've grabbed someone to help go through it and fix grammar/spelling issues

TehGuy, people offered. He just thought his English was good enough. Seriously this is one of his posts on his page (that is now anti-climbing)

With correct spelling:

Goodbye everyone. I am leaving RMN. I'm just not good at making games. "I thought I was doing well," but after I received a bad review for
Out Casts I got butt hurt. I thought my words were spelled correctly. But they were not. Goodbye forever.

Redwall, honestly? Don't give up. There are many, many people on this site who have games choc-filled with writing issues. The majority of games that are denied from the submission queue are those who needed help with getting their description up to scratch, and you know what? They haven't given up.
They carry on.
Because they have a dream to make a game they can be proud of.

You will get better if you keep on trying, it's a proven fact. Case point: Jomarcenter. He created a game that was horrible when it came to the written aspects - got made fun of a lot for it too. Did he give up? No. Hell no. A little thing like negative attention and reviews weren't going to keep Jomar down.

He took what people said, looked at his game and thought "I can do better. I will do better."

And he worked. He worked hard. And guess what? The next game he released still had issues with the writing, but it was a lot better - because he had a goal to aim towards and because he did not give up. He's still working hard and people have noticed - those who poked fun at him now look at him with pride for how he persevered and how he stood back up and just got on with it.

So take what is said in the reviews and look at them. Ignore any personal jabs. If something makes you feel upset, dissect why it does so. Is it because they're right and you don't want to admit it to yourself? Is it because you had a good idea but couldn't communicate it effectively to the player?
Take it all in and then take a huge breath, let it out and say "I can do better!"

Then go and do better. Go learn more about the language - read books, play games that are text-heavy, watch movies with subtitles on. You don't have to be bored while learning. Write - every day just open a notepad and write. Then put that through a spell/grammar checker and see what mistakes you've made. Read it out loud to yourself and see if anything doesn't seem clear when you hear it or if you stumble on any words.

But do not give up - because everyone has their challenges and the only way to get past them is to keep trying. After all, your level 10 archer won't know how to use a sword properly unless you grind him up with it, right? So why would someone know how to use language if they don't level it up?

You and I both know you're stubborn enough to do that, don't we? ;p

@Others: Yeah, let's not chase people away from the site just because they mess up once or twice, shall we? We aren't elitists. People are allowed to make mistakes - as long as they aren't wilfully breaking rules.

You're talking way too fast. I couldn't understand every word you said. Maybe lay off the red bull before making a video ;)

He's allowed to make mistakes, but I can't help but laugh hysterically if he runs away like a crybaby because of constructive criticism that a video reviewer put a lot of effort into, while making 23 grammatical errors in his farewell post.

I would certainly welcome that sort of review for one of my games. I mean its a very well put together review and well argued too. He raises a lot of good points (though there's no way to know now because you can't play the game.)

He's been around for like 4 years. This is not exactly the typical "running away like a crybaby" situation. This is more a defeatist acknowledgement.

This actually sounds a helluva lot like me when I recieved the LP from Liberty for Legacy Reborn back in the day. I was ready to quit game making right then and there. But, no, I took the feedback, and applied it as best I could to a different project. I mean, yeah, it stung and it hurt like hell. Don't get me wrong. Seriously, that project lied dormant for years on end! Then, an opportunity presented itself, and I did the best I could muster (given the time limit) for it.

Also, look at what I created between the time I quit that game, and the time I picked it back up again. I'm not saying you have to do make, like, six more games in order to feel comfortable coming back to The Outcasts. All I'm saying is that you can't give up over something like a bit of negative feedback.
Since redwall added an avatar, perhaps this means he'll take the time to improve instead of leaving the site cold turkey.

I just got here and it's already like a drug; I don't want to see you go into withdraw redwall, so keep at it. We don't all start out great, my grammar may have been good, but damn did my games suck at first.
