That would be a valid point and one I actually think is legitimate, if not for the use of the word 'ladylike' which most definitely points to a woman as being someone who is expected to behave with more gracious and genteel manners than a man. It's not the new position that Linkis was highlighting.

Personally I don't care if every post contained an expletive or if all swearing was banned outright, I just don't believe that Liberty's gender means that her elevation to a higher position based on merit should mean that her behaviour should be modified when the same criteria is not applied to a man, in this case, you.

Seriously not angry, just disappointed.

Yeah, well, she has a gender, and "ladylike" is the gendered adjective for "gentlemenly". It wasn't used as a pointed attack on gender, it just happens to be an adjective that is gendered. Sometimes a red barn is just a red barn. (you read too much into the comment)

Actually not mad at all, just disappointed.
It was a joke.

The GamerGate thread has made people too god damn sensitive.

Your comment or Linkis's? This doesn't have anything to do with gamergate, I'm steering clear of that hot mess as much as I can. My point being if Linkis had said, 'Does this mean as a manager Liberty has to be more civil and there shan't be anymore cussin' There would have been no issue, but he didn't. He said ladylike, he made a point of bringing gender into the equation, when the role has obviously been given on merit.

My point, in case you missed it, is gender is irrelevant. It's pretty much my point on most things.

Perhaps I did, and I'm fine with admitting that, but just to note, if Liberty was a man, and he'd used 'gentlemanly' I would have had the same reaction.

I'm going to go play games now.
Personally, when I was promoted to an admin, I felt consciously about holding myself to a higher standard, as I felt like I was now a representative of the site, and not just a member. So I totally understood what Linkis meant by his comment.

(Also, I have grown complacent, so my personal standards have sunk like a rock)

E:
and I think ladylike is the better adjective over the bland 'civil', as it evokes a sense of noble high court and regalness. Because RMN is totally a fantasy RPG.

Yeah god fucking forbid we refer to someone's gender casually while speaking to them.

like you know

we do in this thing

called English

We should ban conversation you guys, it's too sexist when someone brings gender into the equation by saying "him" or "her".
"Ladylike" is more of a manner thing than a gender thing. "Behave like a gentleman" is also a thing. I mean, to be fair, if Liberty was a man, nobody would say "behave like a gentleman" because instead it would be, "You NAILED it, broheim, WOOOOOO," which is to say that both genders come with their own sets of problems, so let's not make a big deal of it or we'll get into constant, unnecessary squabbles or, worse, internalized language policing over trivialities. There was no ill will on either side, and Liberty may or may not have turned it into a lady in the lake joke--I can't tell.

Also congratulations, Liberty! You're a nice lady and you do a good job so I'm surprised you didn't already have this position. Actually, what is this position, even? What new, terrible powers do you have at your disposal? Followup: can I become your sycophant?

Edit: well, Kentona made my point while I was typing, but, whatever.
Like Superman (gasp! gender!), the true limits of her power may never be reached.

(she has administrator level powers. she can change the colour of her username if she wants)

She should change it to white so you can't see it.

Or to Red White and Blue and rep the liberty and freedom of 'murica. Even though she's not American.
Many congratulations! Its always wonderful to see the least qualified ascend the throne!

Fuck off Rahl.

I thought that version of his account was banned already... >.<;

Oh wait... wow.

Anyway, ignoring that idiot, thank you all. I won't say I'm not nervous and hesitant to use these new powers because I am terrified of borking the site in some way, shape or form by my newbism. I'll try not to do so, though!

As for coloured name - I see no use since rainbow coloured isn't one of the choices. Besides, I like the colour it is currently... ^.^

Professional would probably have been the best term, but there's nothing wrong with being ladylike if that's how you choose to behave, just as there's no problem behaving like a gentleman if you prefer (ladylike just ain't for me ;p ).

Why would people hate Liberty? She's like, the most helpful contributor to this site, and all the nooby nobodies treat her like trash.

That aside, congrats on your promotion, Libby! By the way, kentona swears like a sailor, so I don't think Liberty has to adjust to new presentation standards. :P
Congrats on the promotion, Liberty!
Here, you can have some of my spare swears since you might need them more than I do:

Fuck Fuck Fuck Fuck Fuck Fuck Fuck Fuck Fuck Fuck Fuck Fuck Fuck Fuck Fuck Fuck
Shit Shit Shit Shit Shit Shit Shit Shit Shit Shit Shit Shit Shit Shit Shit Shit

It's only those who don't like rules - it's probably not personal, it's just that I'm the face that usually tells them 'no' and they get pouty and think I'm being mean or deliberately picking on them.

I get along great with those who listen to the rules and don't take it personally. (Or at the least, they don't want to lynch me too much. ;p )

Thanks Avee~ I'll add them to my swear bank, but it'll probably be empty again by the end of the week~ ^.^

Yeah pretty much. Those type of people seem to pop up pretty often as of late.
it's funny to see how threads twist and spin to a totally different and completely non-related focus here at rmn
and then they come back

anyway ALL HAIL LIBERTY OrZ
