Cute, but I'd do a little different with the palettes. Try to force colour restrictions! You don't need to use that many colours, it ends up looking a bit inconcrete. ^^
But otherwise very pretty sprites.

FFXII is a dam good game. Gorgeous graphics, yes-- but in its case not just "hey look at the polygons", it was the actual gorgeous work of Yoshida, the concept artist, which brought such grace to the game. The gameplay is also wonderful, the only thing I disliked is that by the end of the quest all your characters are clones. This was fixed in the much improved IZJV. And for me, FFXII is not a game about story. It's not a game about graphics either, nor gameplay. It's all about setting. Which is really solid in this game! For what I'd call the first real time in Final Fantasy, they're 110% on what they're doing and the setting is really, really solid. Nothing is out of place! It's amazing. (not that the other FFs had poor settings, they were just a little less solid)

Remembering Nabreus Deadlands brings me shivers.

This. So. Much. I love FF12. <3 I wouldn't mind playing a demake either, but it has to include airship battles ( this really was in the planning stage for 12, but got cut out for some reason :\ ).

Haha, thanks for the advice, and compliment Joe. I am not much a shader, but for some reason I went all out on them.
LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

Honestly it seems crazy to me not to use FF6 style sprites

And if you don't care about matching a previous FF game's style, you might as well just rip them all from Final Fantasy Pictologica.
Has anyone ever made a sucessful demake of a FF game on here before?
A demade IX would be cool! It'd probably have faster ATB than the original! That and stylistically it's the most like the older games.

I wonder what an FF1 demake would look like.

I picture a 2x2 resolution white screen wherein you move a black pixel around to the sound of white noise. A demake of that would just be a piece of wood.

I don't agree with that. xD
As it is his interpretation I find it to be really cool that he wants to use his own style!

Yes sir. I have successfully made text-only versions of FF6 and FF7 (and Chrono Trigger and Secret of Mana, and FF5 is about halfway done). Actually in the same game. This game lets you travel between multiple Squaresoft games, but the game worlds are each extremely accurate, right down to the placement of furniture and the status immunities of enemeies. The battle system we use started out as a similarly extremely accurate translation of the FF Tactics job system into an MMORPG-like combat system, but evolved over time to also have abilities and jobs from many Squaresoft games.

Of course, to say I did it isn't the whole truth. I'm the current lead designer, but I didn't join the rather large design team until the game was six years old, and it was another eight years before I became the lead designer. It's an online game, so development is sort of forever ongoing.

I'd love to see a proper FF9 demake (I tried doing this way back in the day), but only if you could properly capture the feeling of traveling on a Gargant. Mapping a "general idea" sort of world would be the easy part (battles and script would be even easier), but visualizing such things out and making them make sense in the context of a 2d RM game would be tricky.

The Final Fantasy VII 2D Remake was on this site for a while and managed to recreate both the first dungeon and the battle system ridiculously super accurately.

Then the guy quit, because it took him like six years just to get this far, and he was maybe 5% of the way done if you were being super optimistic. Can't blame him. But still, holy shit, look at this thing.

The Braver animation is especially cool.
That FF7 demake looks good. I personally didn't like the fighting style for FF12, I think that one needs a demake.

How did they get the train to move like that in the FF7 video? Is that a picture image?

Might be just a picture that then becomes part of the background so that characters can walk on it. It's a trick I've used myself. That's my guess, anyhoo.

You could download the game and check, if you're curious. It's an RPG Maker 2003 game, so you can just open it up in the editor no problem.
