I mean optimizing the lineart! Your lines can be colored to show depth! It's wise to do so, infact, for you're working at a very low resolution, so you got to make every pixel count!
Once again, the new image won't load.

I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

The straight solid-color lines in Balthier's and Basch's hair didn't look great. JS's version of Basch's hair looks much better.

I vote you do whichever one you think you can improve the most. Or maybe just whichever one you think you're most likely to finish (which is probably just a matter of which one you're most motivated to do - all the games would be about the same amount of work).
I agree, good job Joe, sorry about the links not showing... I don't know why that's happening... Hopefully you can see the one I'm about to put up. I tried to use your Basch as a guide and came up with something for Balthier:

Thanks for all the help you been giving me, it's very useful. LockeZ, you're right about which one I am more motivated on working on, I guess I should think about that question.
You're welcome! And whoa, that new hair for Balth totally rocks! Great, bro! <3
I'm glad I'm being able to help.
Vincent loaded this time around. Although an improvement over your first sprites, and an acceptable palette, I think the colors don't "talk" as well as the sprites from FFXII you posted. For instance -- you could use that dark skintone as the highlight on the leather parts! It's pretty much the same color. When I say that the colors don't talk, I mean that they don't have a relation to eachother. That red doesn't work out too well with those grays, same thing on that skintone. They don't feel solid as a palette. But it's doing its job!
Try making lights and shadows desaturated! Especially shadows. For instance, the dark red on Vincent's sprite is 50, 1, 2. It's quite dangerous to go to values below 5! You're getting too close to absolute saturation. Which can be pretty bad, especially on shadows -- objects tend to lose saturation when shadowed.
I'm kinda sleepy so my explanation is a bit wonky but I hope you get it >.<

But anyway, you're doing a wonderful job, keep up!

And listen to the respective games' soundtracks. Choose the one that gets you pumped up the most!

So bizzarre.

I honestly did not know that "demakes" were a thing before these threads.

If you want a lesson on how to craft a demake, check this out.

http://rpgmaker.net/games/5794/

Damnation, why is this not complete! Or in VX(A). (I can still check it out, though. Quite relevant to my interests.)

The poll is for which one wins the demake-makeover.

Hey man, would you mind explaining what the heck this actually is? I mean maybe you did somewhere, but nowhere I can see right now.
I'm fairly certain the poll is for people to vote which game they would prefer the OP to demake. If that's the case, it doesn't bode well for the project... You need to make games for yourself, not for others. If you create something you love, then other people will love it too.
The polls just to see to what people would like to see in a retrospective style, and this topic is for advice on what to expect when making a demake, and maybe if anyone wants to help out that would be great. Personally, I get motivated by what people would like to see, and I am kinda in a tug of war so to speak on which one I should attempt on making, so this poll would kinda help me in a way when deciding, or maybe it would help me make up my mind when thinking twice on which one would be a challenge to create on RPG MAKER VX ACE. For instance, the sphere grid for FFX would be a big challenge... I am sure someone would be kind enough and go out of their way to help me with that, but things like that I need to know when making a demake. The materia for FF7 has been released so that makes FF7 less challenging. I know FF8 GF script was released and FF9 scripts are out there, but this topic would help me understand what I should include into the demakes, and what to expect when creating one of those 5 FF games. I do agree I should choose one I am most motivated on doing like LockeZ pointed out, but I am motivated on doing any, I just need the right tools (scripts, and ideas for battle system).

Also js has helped me a lot when it comes to the colors, i want to thank him :) Joe sorry if I keep doing mistakes but coloring for sprites have always been one of my weakness that I have been getting better at as I go on, thank you for being patient with me.

I found a cool script for a FFX sphere grid. but I am stumped on how to make blitz ball, lol.
Sorry for the double post, but I have decided that I will attempt to demake FF7, and if that's successful I will go on to 8, and so on. Here is an update coloring, and character-wise on the FF playable characters line-up:

Although I really like Blitz, it'd be wise if you cut it. HOLY MOLY that Tifa's got some... umm... well, it's Tifa, why am I surprised? (btw nice colors for her hair)
Anyway. Well, go ahead then! Just make sure not to overwhelm yourself. And everyone commits mistakes! We're bound to that. It's no problem. ^.^

Ok, see? See? That's...not what you said before. Before you said it was definitely going to be FFXII no matter what we voted. STOP PLAYING WITH MY HEART!

Anyway, the FFVII demake project can call on my full support whenever you need it. And my axe.

Haha, sorry Max :p but thank you. I will make you my first mate on this project, haha.

Joe I will pm you when I need you more advice from you =)

Yeah, I think she's smuggling basketballs, but it's pretty game-accurate.

And yeah, don't try to code drownball in RPG Maker. At least not until you're done with every single part of the game that isn't drownball. A simplified version of the Sphere Grid might be good - you could make both your life and the player's life a hell of a lot easier by removing the idea of a "current position" on the sphere grid, and instead letting the player buy any node that's adjacent to any already-purchased node. Effectively this would make it into something closer to a talent tree, except with intersecting branches. Still complex to create, but not so complex to understand.
Lol, yeah I told my girlfriend to make sure to sprite Tifa's boobs big, and she did just that. Hey LockeZ, how about the FF7 materia script, do you think that would works well? Since I will be working on FF7.

I've seen at least half a dozen different materia scripts. Never tried any of them, but if the one you find has issues, go look for another.

It'd probably easiest to make FFIX out of any of these.

From easiest to hardest? Probably 9, 10, 7, 8, and then 12 is the hardest of these by miles.

edit: basic roman numerals
Well at least 7 isn't the hardest. Okay so I am deciding on the fighter sprites. Either my custom style or FF6 style?

If you can animate it well, your custom style seems more than adequate.

Why would you say 9 or 10 is easier than 7? I'd put 9 and 7 as tied for easiest, and 10 as harder than either of them.

FF9 has a medieval setting. If you're not planning to make your own graphics, that will help a lot with finding graphics that will work. If you're using FF4/FF5/FF6 graphics for your tilesets, for example, they'll include almost everything you need for FF9/FF10/FF12's worlds, but be extremely useless for FF7/FF8's worlds.

It also depends which of the original systems you want to keep, I suppose. It's easy to find scripts that mimic FF7 and FF9's gameplay systems. FF8's gameplay will be almost impossible to recreate, but everything about it is so terrible that you'd never want to keep it even remotely similar in a demake. The sphere grid and license board would be a mess, but probably worth doing, especially if you added your own twists to them. Gambits in FF12 would be obnoxious to recreate in RPG Maker, but, again, are so terrible that any sane person would replace that shit.

The realtime field combat in FF12 is obviously on a whole different level from any of that - at that point, RPG Maker is no longer an intelligent choice of engine. You could probably get away with doing the field combat more like Chrono Trigger, though.

FFX is a linear romp with truly turn-based battles. Most of the work would be UI- and resource-related. The engine already implements most of the features you'd need.

Gambits ... are so terrible that any sane person would replace that shit.

The entire mainline Dragon Age franchise wants a word with you.

A sane person would revamp the skill list so that you have something more interesting than "Basic Attack -> Nearest Enemy" and give you all Gambit conditions/slots to begin with, maybe.
