YELLOW MAGIC WANTS TO LP YOUR GAMES
Posts
While travelling on my path to self-discovery, I have realised that I have played very few RPG Maker games for more than a couple minutes. In fact, I think it's safe to say that I've started more projects than completed other RM games. Ultimately, this is a laziness issue rather than boredom, and for that I am sorry, senpais!
Because of this, as well as a need to improve my communication skills (from bad to not-bad), I've decided it's for the best if I do one of those cool LP things that are all the rage these days.
Therefore, if you feel your game could use a bit of critique, feel free to post here!
Some things to note:
- I will only play RPGs. Not that I hate other games, but to a certain extent I'm looking for inspiration myself.
- Ideally, games should be no more than 2-3 hours in length. I may be flexible about this depending on how interesting I find your project.
- I prefer sci-fi and modern settings, so those will get priority. I'll still play others if I don't get many requests though.
- Please make your game independent of any resource packages and the like. I may be able to help with this part if needed.
- I work full-time Monday-Friday. There are going to be some days when I'm too tired to play anything, so please be patient! At this point I'm time, I think I'll be spending 2-3 hours on RM games every week.
- Please don't make fun of my accent. ;_; I was moved around a lot when I was younger, so while I'll try to sound predominantly English, my pronunciation will fluctuate fairly often.

Iron Gaia and Iron Gaia: Virus are both full length science fiction RPGs that could use an LP. They're each something like the exact bog standard length for a commercial videogame, i.e. somewhere in the 6-9 hours range IIRC. Iron Gaia: Virus is meant to be shorter and may actually be (the entire game has a 3-hour time limit, but the game is selective about when it's running the timer; it's actually pretty hard to run out of time and fail to escape the station, which is as it should be). They're both longer than 2-3 hours I'm pretty sure, being complete games, but then again they're science-fiction RPGs so there is that.
Iron Gaia was made when I was very young and it's EXTREMELY rough. I'm certainly embarrassed of it in places, but not ashamed of it.
Iron Gaia: Virus has its rough edges too and is also pretty old now, but I still think it's awesome. Broadly speaking I'm not ashamed or even embarrassed of it. A couple people who played it really didn't like it. Most people who played it really really did. It has some rough edges graphically, being completed in '06.
You don't strictly speaking need to have played IG to play IG:V, but it would probably help you appreciate the emotional impact of some of the story nuances in the latter. IG:V is a semi-standalone "gaiden" or side story of the original.
I wouldn't say they could use critique. They're actual for real complete games (unicorns! around this place), they have been for like ten years, and they're not changing any time soon. But they could use an LP because AFAIK no one has ever done that before.

I actually played a bit of Iron Gaia when I was super young (probably, like, 8/9 years ago?). Don't remember much of it as a result, but IIRC the writing stood out to my impressionable mind, and from what I remember the series is pretty much how you made your mark on the scene.
As a result, it'd be an honour to LP your games even if they don't require critique at this point in time. However, my priority lies with newer projects from less experienced developers.
That said, I don't see why I can't spend an hour per week on these while playing another RM game, as they appear to be right up my alley in terms of setting.
I'm gonna think about it on the way to McDonald's and let you know once I reach a decision!

Hey, try Tales From The Reaper.
I at least made the main characters myself (using a CharSet maker, as I'm no spriter), the premise is somewhat original (I don't know of any story that is about grim reapers), the whole thing is probably a quick playthrough. At because of the timeless nature of it, it's more scifi than fantasy with most of the towns in at least the 1800s steampunk era.
Plus, I really need some feedback so I can figure out what to have to make it Complete (right now it's listed as 4 of 4 but not Complete).

I believe she was asking me, bulmabriefs. ;p
Yeah, if you have their blessing, go for it.
I can't come to a decision on any of those games until I sort out technical issues preventing me from recording (if anyone knows of decent audio/video recording software for Win 8.1, please let me know!!).
In the meantime, Max, FYI: Iron Gaia: Where Angels Fear to Tread isn't RTP-independent. I've sorted it out on my own machine, but you might want to look into that sometime in the future.

I'm sure he won't mind (xD) but please LP Fleuret Blanc! I believe you will love this game since it's a lot similar like Ace Attorney that it has info-collecting and enough action (it's fencing; but you won't need to grind or 'lvl up' or w/e!), and the only difference is that it isn't entirely linear and what you learn of the plot depends on how willing you are to dig up some infos. It's set in a modern world and has badass voice acting as well!
Also, I'm pretty sure your accent can't be worse than mine... ;P
.... Q_Q
e: IIRC "open broadcaster software" is an excellent free recording software that most people use on Twitch.

ivory I want to hug and kiss you. Open Broadcaster Software works a charm! Had a black screen to begin with but that was a resolution issue I was easily able to fix. All I need to do is set up a microphone with Audacity and I'll be up and running.
Had a look at Fleuret Blanc's profile, and while it looks really well-polished it doesn't seem like the kind of game I want to LP. Haven't ruled it out completely though.
Will probably come to a decision tonight or tomorrow. Stay tuned....

I understand the game would be hard to LP since info-collecting takes a lot of time, but still I recommend you give it a try. You can finish the game as fast as you want and the puzzles/infos from gossips are really obvious for you to know the gist of the premise, and enough for you to understand how messed up the game is more than it seems. Though, starting a New Game+ to know more about the story is your choice. ;P

Yeah, I'm not sure how well puzzle/adventure games would translate into watchable LPs. That's the main issue.
Anyway, I've decided to go with Iron Gaia and Tales from the Reaper. The first video of Iron Gaia's up: Sorry I screwed up the audio (EDIT: As well as all the 'ums' and 'ah's', Jesus) - I may or may not redo that section.

I like your accent.
One small tip: You should consider giving your viewers a little more time to read dialogue boxes. Not everyone is as quick a reader as you, and it's annoying having to pause the video every two seconds.
Other than that (and the audio issues you pointed out yourself), this was pretty good.

LOL cheers I guess.
Yeah, I tried slowing down in my second video, along with audio fixes/reducing um's and ah's.. It's up now as well.

OMG that accent ahaha those "cheers" aren't for nothing! I love it <3 xD And your voice is deeper than I've imagined :o
Emma Watson loves my accent. S C O R E
Oh, cool. LPs from someone whose taste I actually respect.
Watching this!

I don't know why you guys are borderline-flattering me so much (I have taste, Lou??) but thanks for the kind words anyway!
@Bulmabriefs: Dude, I'd really appreciate if you made your game RTP-independent. The game crashed after that crazy movie because "title cannot be opened" or something.
Anyway, part 3 of Iron Gaia is up! In this one, I rant about random encounters, some of my favourite games and get inflicted with a weird-ass status effect (anyone know what 'nanited' means?).
