Will I actually like DA:I enough to get my money's worth out of it?

It's impossible to predict what you like or don't like. Especially since things are either sextastic or the antichrist to you, with no middle ground.

I'm not sure how to answer your question when you hated DA:O "like fucking poison for reasons still don't fully understand." That's not much to work with!

Man that's not true at all! I resent this allegation. There's tons of things I'm ambivalent to, like most things actually. Look at my reviews and plenty of them are 2 to 3 stars. It's not like they're all one or five star reviews or something.

That's a totally valid point though lol.
Backstage is one of my favorite Rpgs on this site.

1) Backstage is totally not an RPG.

2) Thank you mate, but that seems WELL off topic no matter how you look at it.

I have >110 hours on one save. Feel free to PM for actual questions but it's very, very good.

Well, I didn't do a nation-wide penis inspection at the time, so I can only speak from personal experience being a twelve-year-old in the mid 90s.
Mode 7 was the greatest fucking thing when I was a kid playing Square's SNES RPGs. I'd fly around on Flammie or the Blackjack / Falcon going nowhere but the sky because it fucking owned.
Did you ever play that Gretzky game tho?

playing shitty hockey in the black void of the aether... fun times.
I did! There's an exploit I found that if you shoot the puck in the air (the A button I think?) towards the net from the blue line or so the goalie would come out and the puck would sail over his head and into the net.

Fuckkin mode 7 man. But this game now would probably give me a headache. Maybe it was better on a CRT TV.
I might be an alien from another planet, but personally, I couldn't give less a shit about gameplay in RPGs. I like to read books. I also like awesome music and pretty things. Combine reading with pretty pixel graphics and music, and that's why I play RPGs. Even if a game's story is bad, I'll still give it an hour or two of my time, in which case it becomes like watching The Room.

Personally, I always played games for the immersion, and I suppose I have very low standards and that allows me to opt-in and find some worth in sometimes badly-written role-playing-games.

By the way, my ideal game would probably be the 1000-years of Dreams stories from Lost Odyssey turned into a collection of really basic 16-bit rpgs.

I think you'd dig Xenosaga, Blueperiod. It's seriously about 50% cutscenes, the story is pretty engrossing and it's nine billion hours long. The only problem is the actual gameplay that intersperses the cutscenes is really damn challenging.
I've played Xenosaga Episode 1 and really liked it. The only reason I never got to playing through the sequels was because I've always heard that the saga is incomplete and there were supposed to be other games in the series, so I don't want to play a story that just ends abruptly. I'll give it a go if the third game ends things in a decent way though.

Also, I must second whoever recommended Dragon Age: Inquisition. Game is fucking incredible. Writing is seriously on point, and it does a great job of treating your companions like real people and in a genuinely organic way. It isn't like Mass Effect where things can come off as robotic with how you interact and get to know your crew. I actually just saw this one scene in the game involving a certain Tevinter mage that kind of awed me with the way it was written and acted, and I haven't felt something like that from a game in a long while. I've also put in like 40 hours and am barely at the halfway point. It's certainly worth every penny, I think.

blueperiod, XS2 is kind of horrible but XS3 is one of my favorite jrpgs. They wrapped up the story fairly well; the big oddity is that there's a game's worth of story between 2 and 3. They literally introduce and kill off a villain between games. The ending isn't abrupt, though. =)

Cool! Looks like I know what series I'll be playing after Dragon Age. :p
