SQUARE-ENIX DECIDES TO GIVE ALL SAGA FANS A... WHOLE NEW GAME! IMPERIAL SAGA, THAT IS. (AND IT'S NOT ONLINE!)
Posts
Read about it here
Seemingly it was to be announced together with SaGa's 25th birthday, which is... today? kinda? i don't know your timezones anyway.
Also, Ministrel's Song was rereleased for the ps3 in Japan. Cool. I missed the chance to play this game, might as well do so if it comes to our western shores.
According to this article (spanish) squenix will release a SaGa game for the vita. And I think those kinda dorky and kinda ugly (though filled with gorgeous Kobayashi art) screens are fom a cellphone game. (read: i hope)
So maybe there are 2 new SaGas coming? Hoo boy, gotta dream.
isn't that siegfried from soul calibur
LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

They're making a new traditional turn-based RPG... for an actual non-cellphone game system... in one of their least popular and least successful RPG series, which hasn't seen a new game in twelve years?
I don't even know what's going on any more. This is the same company that releases more cell phone CCGs with naked anime girls on every card than all other game types combined, and refuses to put menus in Final Fantasy games any more because they don't think anyone will play them? I mean, I like this a lot, the SaGa games scratch an itch for me that almost no other RPGs do, but I'm twice as confused as I am excited.
Mostly I'm concerned that this is gonna bomb, and then they're gonna use that as justification for not making any more turn-based JRPGs for another ten years.

Maybe they do all of that other... crap just so they can build up the capital to do stuff like this.
Reminds me of how the president of G.rev had to secure a few odd jobs for his company before he could finally build up enough money to work on Border Down. Or a rumor I heard about GAINAX needing to make a few pornographic Evangelion games when they were low on dough.

Uh no. Having two flagship games miss an entire console generation and remain in troubled development, rebuilding an entire game from the ground up with an all hands on deck crew while making your subscription based game free in the meantime (don't forget the huge opportunity cost when your games take the better part of a decade or dropping smaller side projects to get more manpower to throw at them) is how you consume capital. There's also the mess of FF13 and FF12. Making a Vita JRPG isn't a capital spender like FF and KH.

So Kenji Ito is handling the music.
Was hoping that'll be Masashi Hamauzu.
I think a Masashi Hamauzu and Tsuyoshi Sekito combination would be hilarious. Combine all three and see what you get! I for one am not creative enough to imagine what a mix of Minstrel Song and Unlimited Saga would sound like but I'd love to hear it.
Heh; I'm indifferent about this because the only SaGa game I've liked was SaGa Frontier 2. And for what I understand, each entry in this series is kind of it's own thing? Unlimited SaGa, for example, played very differently and I couldn't get into it (The art was lovely, though). So who knows how is this one going to turn out... Still, I Hope it does well it that means less FF-XX-Xs in the future.

I feel exactly the opposite about this. I'm so happy ito's back! Finally, we'll have back those truly epic battle themes that no other quite compares.
I hope the Vita entry is a genuine SaGa game. Such a bizarre and wonderful series.
One of the fun things about SaGa is the many mysteries found in the games. SaGa Frontier and the original Romancing SaGa had a lot of cut content, but enough references to the content remained that everything was just...odd. The inconsistency was surprisingly fun to get acquainted with.

Yeah, even though I'm...eh about the Vita I'm excited SaGa is getting some love. Not only do I personally like the SaGa series, they could have been a LOT better than they have been because almost all of them have been eviscerated during development, most of them are unfinished but released anyway, but still fun. Romancing SaGa: Minstrel Song and SaGa Frontier 1 are my favorites.
I'm also sick of Square Enix releasing nothing but Final Fantasy titles; the Western market is kind of lucky in the fact that most of you guys (us?) actually see only about half of the FF titles that SE puts out; Japan is saturated with Final Fantasy Whatever games. I look forward to mainstream FF titles as much as the next guy, but damn, dude. It's ridiculous. Remember when Squaresoft was diverse?
Yes, because he's been doing the music for SaGa since forever with little exception. Was anyone expecting differently?

Well, the last 2 main series games have been composed by Hamauzu. So...
But yeah! I'm so happy SaGa's getting some love, too... But it's such an experimental series
Killing off this experimentality would probably also kill off its appeal... and I'm not sure if Squenix would want to bet in something fresh. Uhh

Hold up man, I think it's time for... another FF4:TAY remake! This time in glorious HD!

Which is an appreciated but weird departure from the norm!

I'm well aware of that. I just like Hamauzu works better.
