LOOKING FOR ADVICE ON UPDATES

In the near future I hope to release a major update to my game.
Despite having used the site for months I'm still a bit of a newb on certain things.
A friend of mine suggested that instead of a simple update of editing the current download, I should delete the current version and upload a whole new one. He said that when you add a new download the game gets featured on the front page.
The downside is that it deletes the game's download count.
Are there any other downsides or upsides to this that I should be aware of.
Like do I have to resubmit the screenshots? Since its still the same gamepage I assume not but, I don't know? I hope the old comments stay there I really appreciate the comments people have left on the page. I know that probably sounds ridiculous but again I don't really know much about how this site works.

I trust my friend's opinion but I think it's a good idea to see what others think.

I'm also concerned that if I go this route, that the game might do worse than last time since the older versions' reviews will still be there (I'm pretty sure) and perhaps make the game less appealing.

When the update comes out I plan to post replies on those reviews that mention that I have fixed the issues that the reviewers had but that won't change the scores. And my guess is most people won't bother noticing my replies to the reviews.
I'm also planning on asking some people on the site to review the game once the update arrives but those reviews could take a while and during that time the game would be on the front page with outdated reviews.
Please don't take that the wrong way everyone has a right to their opinion, and frankly I'm glad I got the reviews because they allowed me to create a better game. I'm just saying that by the time my update arrives those reviews will be outdated for the most part.

So, now that you know my situation what do you all think is the best way to release a major game update.
I would clearly write the date you updated the game, so that people reading the reviews would realize they are for the older version.

If you write a blog about the new update, that might attract more people, and you can also inform people who've already subscribed to your game of the changes.

I don't know anything else about updating a game page or anything, sorry! But I'd be happy to play & review the new version once it's out.

edit - the date would be on the download anyway, and also you can probably just delete the old one and replace it? I don't know XD
Thanks for the advice Suzy. I'll let you know when it's ready for review.
I subscribed just after I posted here, so no need to tell me.
When you change the main download, the number that shows inside the "download now" box changes. But down below where it shows profile views, is a total download count for all downloads. I don't recall what happens if you delete a download, if that reduces the total download count. Maybe. For me I added a new download for each new demo and left the old ones(mainly for the makerscore).

If it's a major update, you could always add a new download. It will show up on the front page, your total download count would remain, and you'll get more makerscore. You would probably hear complaints if you kept making small updates by adding a new dl.
Interesting info, thank you Link_2112.

I've got a follow up question.
So does the Download Now button always automatically redirect to the newest download that you add or, do I have to manually set the Download Now button to redirect to the newest version?
When you have multiple downloads and you go to manage games>your game>downloads, there will be a button to click on for "set as main download". That becomes linked with the Download Now button.
