Gloating over the fact that somebody left the site is nothing more than counterproductive. If overambitious newbies asking others to make their game for them realize that's not how things can work and start over on a smaller scale, that would have been a success. Overambitious newbies becoming bitter when told their grand plans won't work and leaving the site is neither a reason to celebrate nor an accomplishment. And saying it were the other users who "made them leave" (which they didn't) and calling that "justice" only casts a bad light on RM communities and makes us all look like elitist punks - which we shouldn't be and most of us aren't.

It's good to make clear that recruitment threads like this one will go nowhere, yes. But pretending it's somehow good to scare away inexperienced newbies, and even claiming the community does this and should do this completely misses the point.

Its VERY good because there will be no more newbie clutter from this person. And These replies were ALLOWED by this site to happen which is just amazing! So were the mods wrong for allowing these replies? Are you saying they do not know how to do their jobs? Justice.

Still missing the point, I see.

I never said the replies in this thread were wrong and never even mentioned the mods. You made it appear like other users replied specifically in order to scare away these newbies. They didn't. They were only telling them their plans were overambitious and nobody would make their game for them.

In short, the reason why the newbies left is because they got angry that nobody supported their overambitious plans, not because others deliberately scared them away. You made it look like the latter was the case and even said that would have been good. But it's simply not true.
And if it were true, it would not have been something to be proud of. One of the purposes of a community of hobbyist game makers is to encourage newbies to be realistic and start improving their skills step by step. In my opinion, your idea of how to treat newbies is counterproductive and shows a lack of respect for others.

My own objective was not to scare Arcade away, it was to get him to learn the ropes before he went asking for a team. Wanting to make a game is all well and good, but you need to know how to use the editor, and there are plenty of resources available that could teach him to do just that.

Saying "WE WANT TO MAKE THE MOST AWESOME YOU-TUBE GAME EVER PLEASE JOIN US" (which is paraphrasing what he originally said before he took Pizza's advice and edited out) is disingenuous, as none of his team knew what they were doing.

I'm all for not having brand-new RPG Maker users asking to immediately form a team so someone else can make a game for them. However, instead of banishing them from the site or something extreme like that, I'd much rather they take the effort to make something small on their own, learn the ropes, ask questions when they need help, and become a legitimate developer and member of the community, rather than "Newbie Who Made a Team Thread #9998"

My objective was to get him to smarten the fuck up, because I have experience in pitching games and to be honest I'm sick of seeing threads with total newbies to the engine and the community trying to sell everyone on their "kickass" RTP fantasy bullshit.

If somebody's first inclination is to make a recruitment thread before they even spend 5 minutes working in the engine then they probably weren't going to stick around very long anyways. Frankly I'm not sure why you'd even want them to.

Kami The WolfBoy: I'm one of the people working on the game, and I just logged on to see what was up. My thing is, everyone has to start somewhere. When I said that we were making a game from scratch, I meant it. It took us over an hour just to get our original characters to work (We used Loose Leaf as a blueprint and edited the finished product in Photoshop), and any REAL artist knows it is about hard work rather than living up to the flashy expectations of some rude bottom feeders waiting to use some aspiring artists as a step stool to elevate themselves. I enjoy constructive criticism, but none of the posts above were that. From what I can tell, you are the "You did it wrong" & "You are a failure" type rather than the "Try doing this instead" type. Did anyone ever stop and think this wasn't about being the best? That it was about bringing strangers together to have fun and build something that was beautiful to us? No one except us has seen the actual script I wrote out, and this game is going to end up darker than the last of us. So I'm going to console my associate, then we and the team we have so far are going to have fun creating something that is beautiful to US instead of exposing it to people that are only going to compare it to something else rather than sticking around to see past the cover.

Also this is hilarious

Don't be an asshole. There was no intention from anyone here to make him pack up and leave. Instead, we wanted to show him that some dreams require more work than you initially imagine and that nothing is ever handed to you in this world - that you have to show your ability to garner others' abilities. You can ask for someone to work for you but don't expect them to just up and do it or want to help without the intention of work by yourself as well (something you'd know about, I'm sure.)

Your attitude in this is toxic and it is not the kind that we want to cultivate. Please shape the fuck up or ship out because hating on newbies is not fucking on and if caught doing it you will be in trouble.

There is a world of difference between a sharp wake-up slap to a baby who needs to learn to breath, and throwing the baby out a window. You don't seem to understand that and until you do, I'd rather you stay away from the babies, thank you very much.

Sometimes you get a newbie who doesn't want to open their eyes to the truth and sometimes you get the newbies who realise they have a long way to go. Toxic attitudes like yours cause the second type to abandon ship and we do not want that.

Also, recruitment threads are very much allowed on this site. They just require a bit more effort put in to them as someone submitting a game.
I agree that it is stupid to celebrate (non-existent) newbie bashing.

@Arcade & co. If you're too immature to handle non-critical feedback how can you expect anyone to want to join your team?

I'm pretty sure there are worse places on the internet where you and your proposal would have been ripped to shreds, but everybody here was polite.
