MIGHT WANT TO STAY CLEAR OF THE OFFICAL RPG MAKER FORUMS FOR A WHILE...

CloseI dont know if many of you are aware of this but over the last week some hacker or spam bot more likely has hijacked the offical RPG Maker forums (US) and every so often it redirects you to a spam website. I stupidly posted a new post on the feedback forums of that site today about it seeing that the post about it before started on the 5th and it still hadnt been fixed, i guess i should have just read the commments on the other thread but ...either way apparently there is some "IT/marketing guy" I wont share names as i dont tend to start a gossiping war here. its all there if you care to look. Has been aware of the issue but apparently it has something to do with the forum software they use that there is a hole in it which the makers of the forum software have yet to "patch". the problem is his replies are quite hostile towards the users who are ticked off over it. and he even locked the main thread about it. Seems very unprofessinal handling of such a situation. when i shared about it to another staff member in the forums apparently they defended him and called me rude.
However it seems this guy Is more then just an it guy. if you report any issues with the forums oddly enough it directs you to their marketing email and the forums iteself state it is the "community administrator"s contact. ...and lo and behold it turns out to be him. I just dont get why they are letting some guy who is apparently the admin/it guy AND marketing contact who does not behave in a professional way on the forums at all. (i would think a major IT blunder would be to publicity state the vulnerability issue in the forums iteslf being the forum software they are using.....)
he more or less is just saying "oh i tried to restart it 3 times ...but its a hole in their software and quite bugging me..."
what gets me is this is not some fan forum this is the official forums for the us version....
sighs. Really frustrating and really frustrating that i wish i could contact someone above this guy about it...but my guess is the forums are handled as bare bones and mostly by volunteers seeing as the main company is in Japan and this is mostly just for the English version...
but really very poor experience there and the danger of having just ONE person in charge of it is that if you have an issue and there is no one else you can talk to about it......
oh well. guess a good advice for us all stay clear of the offical forums for a while the guy says that no harm has been done so far. but no offince as i said to them you obviously have ZERO control over what site it takes users to. it could be an illigal porn site or something like that......im pretty sure if that was the case SOMETHING would be done about it. or the forums taken down until its fixed. but likely since its just a 'spam site" and thats not the main part of the website that handles buying the product its of low priority and thus handled and administrated by either just volunteers or someone with "IT" "experience" who may not be very experienced at all....or am i just off my rocker here?

I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

IIRC the entire company consists of like... I think it's less than half a dozen people, and maybe only two of them are full-time employees? So give the guy a break. He's just a guy who gets paid a few hundred dollars a month to update the website occasionally, and people are going berserk about the fact that it was targeted by hackers, like there's anything he could possibly have done about it.

Dude, chill. We only have one or two people capable of dealing with the site code as well. The only reason hackers wouldn't kill this place is because they'd have hell trying to find anything in the mountain of code. (Its crazy construction is probably the best protection we have. XD )
But as said, there's only a handful of people in charge of that site and the jobs are scarce.
Also, get over yourself. It's not a class A issue. They know about it and are working on it, but there are things going on in their real lives that they're having to deal with as well. You and others acting like a fuckwit isn't helping. (I assume you're the user who has been calling Nate out over it and harrassing him and the other mods over there? After just signing up to the site and not being involved in it in any way, whatsoever? The name's the same.)
Nate is a great guy and he's doing his best. He didn't sign up for the position he's currently in but he works hard to keep the site running and does a great job. Assholes who bitch and whine when the staff don't take their advice and SHUT THE SITE DOWN FOR TWO WEEKS to fix the issue (which is a minor leak, if that) should sit down and wait. It might be okay for you to wait 2 weeks when you've just joined the site, but for others it's a huge thing to say 'oh, just go for 2 weeks without your home forum while a minor issue gets fixed.' (If we did that here there'd be rioting in the streets. Forget Woodstock, there'd be RMNstock and it'd be a world wide occurrence.)

(And if you are that guy who got banned? Blaming a mental illness for harrassing site members and demanding free goods is a real class act. There are many people with many mental afflictions both here and on the other site and they do not use those issues as an excuse to behave badly.)

Nate knows about the issue. As he is currently the only one in both IT and Administration positions, with a real life outside of some forums, he is very busy. You make it sound like some kind of conspiracy but it's a widely known fact that he is both and he does a great job on the upkeep of our sister site - who is very stable and has never caused issues for most of the people going there.
Nate is doing his best to fix the issue but it's something he cannot really touch because it's an issue with the company that runs the board the site is on. He'll do what he can but it's not the huge fucking issue you've made it out to be.

It's fine to go to RMW. It's as safe a place as any and while there is a MINOR security breach, it is being worked on.
If you do encounter said issue, please politely post in the relevant topic or send a POLITE PM to one of the mods there, letting them know where you were when you were redirected. You can help them pinpoint the issue and fix it faster.
